- When Derek from Vice Grip Garage calls and asks if you wanna help do the suspension on and old Ford RatRod pickup what do you do? Well, you jump on a plane and head for Tennessee! This was a wild three and a half day thrash on an 89 year old pickup. Lots of good tech tips for installing a four link and air bag suspension, plenty of laughs, and in the end... A Very Cool Truck.

Thanks for helping Dave! Had such an awesome time!
Such a great episode
It was a blur of laughter and margaritas.
If all Dave's and Derek's subscribers sub to both, you both hit 2 million!
+1 came from VGG
My two favorite bolt turner guys... can't wait to see you guys do more together.
It's a lot of fun watching the Vicegrip video first and then yours and filling the blanks in the conversations. 😂
Was thinking the same exact thing!😂
Just did the same
same here 😆
Yup, me too.
lol!! Same here!!
Dave just casually whippin up a triangulated 4 link air bag setup, goals!
So glad Derek is doing collabs and helping boost up other car guys channels. Helps move the projects along while also building up other channels.
Him referring to you as uncle Dave was a really nice moment
I’m raising one (and pouring far too many out) for all the ‘Uncle Dave’s I’ve encountered. Their patience and the knowledge they passed on made so many things possible
Cheers to that
@@thedirtheadshed-truly amazing to see the work that you do! Cheers!
How you still dont have a show on MT is unbelievable. Your knowledge, your laid back, yet humorous personality, is so much more fun to watch than more than a few of the folks who are still making shows.
Thanks so much. Pretty sure that ship has sailed though
MT simply(?) needs to get some different but entertaining, knowledgeable with the character to seduce the camera. The old style loudmouth bodgers have been done to death.
Dave could be the guy.
You are still the man, sharing and spreading your magic wherever you go. I enjoy watching you create magic and the fun you have producing it. Please keep it coming. Thanks
It’s a pretty good gig!
I will never use any of this but I do enjoy the work you do and thank you for sharing it. Great video
Yes! I just finished the VGG episode. Now for the rest of the story!
That’s awesome! Hope ya dig it
Love all these Collaborations Dave. Barnes 4wd needs to sponsor you!!
They are good folks
Yes!!!!!!!!! More Dirthead Shed and Vice Grip!!! Bonus double feature videos this week!
Hope ya dig it
This is where Derek shows his brilliance. He had someone come to help with this job that is great at what he does.
Great job guys!!
Dave I remember when you and 4xFred had a show on motortrend i think? I can't believe you don't have more subscribers on here. Love your content and energy. Thanks for the videos.
Pass the word around. We need more Dirtheads to find it
That is so cool watching both pages and seeing the difference between them and getting more information about the build. It's also get to see builders teaching other builders different quality's of their trade. Great job Dave
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great team! Educational, dangerous, etc.. Everything we appreciate!
It was fun!
Holy cow, am I dreaming? My two favorite guys in the same video
Agreed, great synergy and energy - and the humor is perfect. My favorite the is the Christmas music reference. Still laughing.
We have double footage! So much gets cut from either guys video. Watching both is like an unfair joy! Is that bad for my soul? DON"T care...watching all of it!
the sit down food trips on those build-and-thrash with friends is probably my favorite part.
Yep. Worth the down time
I'm still bummed about no DED, But Dave and Derek are always good entertainment.
I love it! Two great dudes just doing cool airbag and engine swap stuff in the shop. When Derek referred to you as 'uncle Dave' to Bentley, that made me proud. Derek and Jess have done such an amazing job balancing cartube and parenting the boys....and to know that they consider you as part of the family, that speaks volumes about you and them.
I'd love to see a round 2 for front bagging. BAG ALL THE THINGS!!!!
They have been great people to hang with!
Dave needs a show of his own, lots of great information and fun to watch.
Thanks
I just found another channel to watch. All thanks to this amazing collaboration!
Welcome in!
Same!
This was literally one of the best episodes enjoyed it so much on vicegrip garage can't wait to watch yours now! Right on guys
Thanks for all the support! It was a fun few days
You guys do awesome fab work some fab guys on tv just shouldn’t be building cars
Awesome job! Dave you are great and a great big thank you for helping Derek!
Thank you. It was a fun week
This was an amazing collab. Can't wait to see that Ford running.
Thanks!
These two are some of the best builders, ever! Dave can build an entire care from nothing in 2 days. Derek can do the wiring and brakes in between all of the fab work! What a perfect team to build a cool vehicle!
At least something on that truck got overbuilt 😂Dave you're definitely a great fabricator man🤠
Thanks so much.
Very interesting how Derek has gone from total unknown, to actually holding up all the Motor Trend show dudes. Stick together fellow car dudes! 🤘🏼
He is a good dude. Making moves at the right time
What an awesome collaboration!!!! Two of my favorite tubers building something rad!!! Great job guys!!!
Dude. Dave is like a bouncing mechanical / fabricating legend. Between being an incredible fill in with the Motortrend teams, and VGG and everything, and still knocking it out at his own Dirthead Shed. What an absolute boss, I greatly enjoy seeing your name pop up in my feed, across multiple channels. Cheers!
Is Bentley the adult supervision for the shop today.😂
He definitely had fewer accidents
Glad derrick put us on your channel ❤
Welcome!!
an hour long dirthead shed episode? hell yeah!
Dave you do awesome suspension work and welding it just seam to come natural to you
Seems all my favorite guys like working together. Dave, Derek and Tony.
I need to get to Tony’s place
43:48 At 54... I wear my old man glasses every waking moment. Lol. Traveling Suspension Tech. What a title.
That does sound more professional than Gypsy fabricator
I like this guy. He seems smart and chill. Derek seems smart and chill too!
Thanks
Hey Dave, a few months back when you did your Mustang 2’s four link you inspired me to 4 link and airbag my 63’ Ford Falcon and it came out awesome, it rides great and will lay the crossmember on the ground if you want it to, I just wanted to say thanks for the content and I’ve learned a ton from you!! -Bill
Well, I’ve never laughed so hard watching two fellas wrenching on a rig. Thanks for this video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Dave, you and Derek @ViceGripGarage are some awesome dudes. The episode was a little long but you were thrashing through a bunch of stuff. Well done. Keep up the good work fellas.
Thanks
That's amazing! Dave strolls into VGG waves his hands and BAM....... 4 link in the VGG 35 ford! Dust's off his shoulder's and say's thanks for having me! Amazing Dave!
I really enjoy watching two guys with all the knowledge having such a good time and the results look amazing. The best part is the sharing of how things come together. As an old mechanic/welder couldn’t be more pleased. Thanks!!!!
This is funny to watch after just watching it on Vice grip from another perspective.
It's always a pleasure watching someone who knows what they're doing.
I AGREE! I don't know what I'm doing...but LOVE seeing a guy that does! I even like some musicians that aren't my thing...but are awesome at it. Respect the skills :)
Dave done a wonderful job helping Derek at VGG Garage get this '35 Ford pickup four link suspension and air bag ready. Good job to all!
Yes!! Couple awesome dudes in the garage!
Good times
I just watched a Four Link Masterclass. Thanks Dave! 👍🍻
great colaboration and great build, you make fabricating a custom rear suspension look easy, just kidding ,that was a ton of knowledge and skill there , congrats and looking forward to more !
Thanks! It was a fun few days
I was hoping this video would fill in some blanks from the @vicegripgarage video I watched last night and it didn't disappoint. They book end each other well. Great content all the way around.
What a fun week
The two of you should do more calibration videos in the future. Your personalities and areas of expertise work so well together! Awesome job on the truck as well!
Couldn’t agree more. May God Bless actual United States CITIZENS. The men who make this country the beautiful thing it could have been.
I can't wait to see who you help do air bags and a 4 link next! Hopefully its me!!!!
Traveling fabricator
What a fantastic channel and the talent you possess is immediately evident both in fabrication but also in explaining the process with a good amount of humor too!
Very fine job, sir! You are a true craftsman!
Its the Dirthead Vice Shed
😂❤
Double the troubles and the fun😊
You decided to fly into Nashville during CMAs, live and learn
It makes sense now
Derek and you are an awesome matchup. And your MIG welding skills are off the hook. 👍🏻
Amazing how you just pull all these angle's and geometry straight from the ole dome. Really cool Dave.
Looking good 🎉 like the collaboration. Two worlds collide and sparks flying 🎉
So much cut grind weld
How did I not know Dirthead Dave had his own channel? Now I have 134 other videos to watch.
Catch up!
Thank vice grip garage you got another subscriber Derrick suggested you I'll definitely take his word that you're worth watching looking forward to watching fabricating
I appreciate it!
just started watching....HOW GOOD! The Dave and Derek show! Exciting. Cheers
I can’t believe that Acetylene bottle cooked off like that, has to be the craziest shop mishap I’ve ever seen and I’m glad nobody blew up because the safety valve worked
Yeah, that's serious shit. Acetylene is easy to ignite (second only to hydrogen as far as I know) and the flammability limit is from 2.5 - 83%, very wide. Any mixture in that range is a bomb.
If you look at the numbers there probably wasn't any real danger. Even my two car garage at 20 x 20 x 10 is 4000 cubic feet. It would take 100 cubic feet of acetylene to reach the 2.5% lower flammability limit. That assumes an even mixture, so potentially it could take less acetylene as it will rise because it's lighter than air, though the are really close in density.
Derek's shop is huge so that little tank probably wasn't a problem, but I surely wouldn't have waited around. Opening the doors and getting it outside immediately is the right call.
The MSHA and companies like Air Products have information online about acetylene. It is seriously dangerous above 2.5% in air.
@@Fix_It_Again_Tony yeah but it technically could have done what firefighters call a BLEVY or something like that where the safety valve doesn’t work the leak that originally ignited causes the bottle pressure to increase to the failure point which is catastrophic. Modern bottles have a safety valve that allows it to burn off pressure instead of going catastrophic which in this situation is why it continued to burn even though they turned off the main valve because built in safety valve allowed it bleed off the over pressure caused by the bottle heating up
@@peltiereric6497 For sure. Better to vent than explode.
@@Fix_It_Again_Tony that’s why I never fool around with old bottles people find in the back of garages that have been in there for who knows how many decades and if they have the safety valves. People ask if I want them and I just say no thanks
I thought the boards with all the nails was the dangerous part of the video! Hope Derek was up on his shots; lock jaw is real.
What an awesome build! I liked the truck before but now it’s next level! Thank you Dave and Derek
Thanks to you guys and Fred, I’m the proud new owner of a neglected 46 cj2a that is located in Reno nv. Plan on going down, throwing some parts at it, and cruising back roads home to roseburg,or. Thanks for the inspiration and bad ideas fellas.
Nice! I lived in roseburg from 85-90
So glad to find your channel. I remember when you joined the old show and your fun to watch build stuff. Stay rad
You too man! Thanks for coming over
Very cool. Came over to see your channel due to the collab with Derek @ViceGripGarage. Hope to see more of you two working together! Subscribing
I love this 1935 Ford can't wait to see what it looks like at the end 😊
This is always a great collab. A Sasquatch and a dirthead make a good team.
I am going to steal so many one liners from this episode lol
I may have used em all up!
Whaaaa! THIS is a banner monday 😮!
Tryin to help y’all have a great week
Motortrend should get you back their channel! I truly enjoy your fabrication and witty humor!! You have become the four link king!!!
Dave this 4 link is a work of Art man!! I love the fact it is over built and it is from Barnes 4WD, how cool is that!!
My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln."
There it is. He wasn’t lying
congrats on 103k climbing fast
Yeah! I am excited to see how this year goes
Nice fab and helping Derek on the positive outcome 👍
fantastic looking
Support comment 🙂
Those are some of my favorites
Wow Dave the work you did on this is artistry in steel it looks amazing 🤠🤠🤠
The acetylene bottle on fire was a surprise! Definitely raised your blood pressure I’m Shure! Really like the brace behind and under the axle! Nice teamwork!
Love your collaboration
I’m a new subscriber can’t wait to find a spot to hide at work
And check out your videos!! 🍻
I’ll call your boss and create a diversion…
Just get less sleep like the rest of us!
You need one of those cool welding hats that are polka dots all over. Surprised you don’t have sleeves.
I’m pretty unorthodox in the welding world
I mentioned a while back that a refresher on the metal types might be handy. Thanks for the deets.
The shirt is rad
Derek needs a fume extractor.
vgg with the turbo can was hilarious
Hahah.. mind blowing
You guys do some really nice work and work well together
Leatherperson 😂
I’m trying .
Love the rig, Love the collaboration, Love the result! Great Video, so much fun!!!
That is so cool; it's incredible how easy you make it look and the result is awesome.
Man those some good looking welds!
Subscribed right away Dave. Your now on my list.
OTR truck driver for 10 years. We called Nashville "Crashville" on the road.
Some fine welding Sir. Most channels I watch I rate the welding. Dave is 1 of the best.
You two together are hilarious
It was so much fun
Fantastic seeing you two thrash! That was awesome!
It was a fun week
Such good entertainment! Well done fellers
Always a pleasure to watch and listen to you guys' work. I miss Dirt Everyday!
Dave , you and Derek did a fantastic job on that old truck. Glad it was fitted with Ford parts
What an awesome truck and some great fabrication skills make it even better, got to be my favorite build so far, great work guy's and I can't wait to see it rip up the road ❤❤
Vgg brought me here and your relaxed chilled vibe kept me here ,loving this collab
wOw you guys absolutely smashed that out!
Added entertainment with torchgas fire and Argon shortages, personal injury and the great French debate?
Nailed it :-)
With this build. You 100 percent. Need a load on the back. Air bags will do nothing. Bumps ride ass and jumping all over the road.
Not safe. (
Great job over all.
Mick Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
God bless you 🙏
It should the fine, the bed is heavy
Best quote you made was on Derek's video. "This is how they did frames in the 60s, 70s and 80s. It's wrong, but it worked" LOL
And I'm still dying laughing from the turbo can fiasco. Best part is Derek is like "maybe its not noticeable" and you respond "trust me its showing up on camera".....comedy gold!
When Derek bought that Versailles, the first thing I thought about was the rear axle was probably the best part of the car. Glad it got reused. Great work, Dave...as usual.
Lots of jokes and laughter but the job still gets done! BRILLIANT
Thanks both from Australia
Cheers
You guys should do some of the revivals together with the added fabrcation skills you can start with even skechier vihicals and hotchpotch the thing together. Would very entertaining!
That would be fun
