What are hospital corners for sheets and how do you make them? Great question! Growing up, some of us may have experienced the bedsheet folding technique in our own homes (and how lucky!). But for the rest of us, “hospital corners” remained an elusive mystery, until now.
It’s actually pretty simple - making hospital corners means folding bed sheets and tucking them into a mattress is in a specific way that is both pleasing to look at and also creates a snug fit.
And yes, hospital corners originated in hospitals, but they're also the designated way to fold bed sheets in the army, navy and other military branches. You'll probably also notice hospital corners on some nicer hotel bedsheets as well.

There are about 6 main steps to folding the hospital corner, then just a few more rounds of practice, and it’s done! Please know that the type of bed sheet (cotton, bamboo, jersey knit, etc) and the weave (percale or sateen!) will impact how crisp and clean your hospital corner lines will be.

Yes, this was the norm in my house as parents & grandparents were vets & nurses. Friends always lol @ how our beds were always "so neat & fancy".

In the days before fitted sheets....we made hospital corners on all 4 sides for the bottom sheet! I was like 8 years old when I learned!

I remember my dad teaching me how to do hospital corners when I was young, but these days, unless I have guests over, I don't really try to do them anymore. I always kick the sheets up and off and all over during the night anyway whether I did the corners or not lol

I'm folding the corners as you suggest. My problem is the queen sheet does not seem large enough to allow either corner to stay tucked in. One mattress is 11" thick, the other is 9". They both have the same problem.

Keeping the sheet snug and free of wrinkles plays a major part in reducing bedsores and other issues to sensitive, easily damaged skin.

In the military we use clipboards or rulers to help tuck and fold make like extra nice

What do you do when there isn’t anything to tuck in for bottom bit?or tucking in two layers? I try with my blanket and top sheet but it’s so hard to do because I can’t see both layers
I have to do this at an elderly clients house when I clean, I always feel I never get it perfectly. Hopefully this helps lol

Hey do I need a bigger sheet if I have a full size bed? Or can I just use full size bed sheets?
Is this even possible to do on a low profile platform bed? I can do hospital corners but since moving recently I had to get a new bed. I got the Worth bed by Modloft. I've yet to be able to make a hospital corner on this bed because of the low profile and the mattress is sun 3.5 inches into the frame. I love the bed but how do I get hospital corners back? ;( I want my waterbed back...so much easier & more comfortable.

Except that's not a proper hospital corner. A hospital corner has no diagonal, just a line at the corner. This is...odd and it looks a mess.
