Upstream: Microplastics in UK rivers

- We tested 13 major rivers in the UK and found plastic in every single one of them. We need our government to take real action against plastic pollution and introduce legislation that limits the use of plastic. A government target to dramatically cut our production and use of plastic is required - and strong Environment Bill is the way to get one.
Urge your MP to call for a strong Environment Bill and protect our wildlife! act.gp/30XG19z
I haven’t seen Steve Blackshaw since cbbc wow, it’s great he’s using his platform to spread this crucial message
This was a really saddening documentary showing the extent of pollution we have caused in our rivers and how severely we all need to make a change to reduce plastic and microplastic pollution. We hear so much about the extent of plastic pollution in rivers abroad, but to see that our own rivers in the UK are this polluted is devastating. The work you have been doing is amazing and it’s really important that you are sharing this message. #fairweb #livetree
I look at this and I feel ill.
The problem is people and their apathy. ALL packaging should be recyclable. ALL toilet paper should be made from recycled paper by law. BUT none of this overrides the person chucking rubbish out of their car window when driving anywhere, city centre, country road (take me home etc.)
absolutely disgusting
The Stock Markets are doing well. The Earth is beyond local repair. We need alien intervention.
Why don’t we burn all the plastic and find a way to get rid of the toxic fumes
We do burn a lot of waste, much of it will be non recycled and non recycle able plastic that’s gone to general waste bins… but it’s really not the solution to burn it even though it would make sense not to waste (the waste), and a bit nuts that we have to export it… we have to tax plastic production, sale and manufacture, and reward sustainable practices instead.
