Wow what a great video. I’m 53 and in the early 70’s I remember the ladies on the porch. She told me she was the mother of the train robber. A lot fun. Thanks for doing this. You got a new subscriber.
Ghost Town comes alive is actually more than just coming in the town and being able to walk in the houses and building, it's an interractive experience the guests can partake in. Like there's a whole storyline, riddles to solve, and a lot of little freebies you can get and bring home.
One the most hilarious things is when he says "sarsaparilla" in that voice! I got all giddy when he mentioned getting a drink because I knew he was going to do it. Ha ha!
My three favorite rides as a kid at Knotts was beary tales, kingdom of the Dinosaurs, and the soapbox racers. The only time I get there now is during Christmas when Ghost Town is free.
1:15 I used to work at that Camp Snoopy store it was very fun to work there and the co-workers were fun to be around with, Plus the cool benefit working at Knott's was on your days off you can go to the park for free with employee ID Card. I've loved going to that theme park since I was a kid in the early 1990's.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS! I'll be going to Knott's in two weeks and can't wait to see all this in person. I'm so excited, to actually look inside the barber shop and sit in the sheriff's seat. THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN! :)
Spike I believe was from Weeds,CA I would LOVE to have that Ghostown Tee. free beans ARE tastier. SO COOL that all the dioramas are open! So cool! Thank you for the vid!!!
Wow. Even as a kid, I got the impression that Knott's was shifting its focus on the thrill rides rather than its history. I am impressed now that they're giving TLC to Ghost Town. I may have to check it out (after convincing myself to go alone, every time I go with people it's just thrill rides, thrill rides, thrill rides).
You should read up on what they did for the 75th anniversary, and come back to experience it. It's called Ghost Town Alive, hence all the live characters, and what Goldie was telling you about is a whole day interactive experience with bandits and excitement throughout ghost town, alone! It's really fun and easy to spend the whole day engulfed in the storyline. I highly recommend it! Plus if you had read up on it, you probably wouldn't be as surprised as to why everything is the way it is for the summer...
Great vid. remember Walter Knott bought / took the best buildings from Callico, the 'ghost Town out of Barstow and brought them to Knots Berry Farm.... these are really OLD Ghost town buildings, just moved from the REAL Callico. Thanks again - great presentation!
That's how I felt working in the bakery for a year! Always tucked away in the corner and never knowing how the boardwalk, fiesta, and camp snoopy were doing.
Thanks, Justin. Great video. Hey, that pod you took from that vine. If you lay it on your night stand. In the morning you'll have a cloned Justin in the morning. Just saying. Invasion of the Knott Snatchers Gooogle it.
Ever been out to the real Calico out in the desert? It is a athentic ghost town that Walter Knott saved and restored. Now the town is a state park and you can actually spend the night in the campground.
what i remember most of ghost town when i was a kid in the 1960s was "sad eye joe" in the jail. they had a small booth near the jail where a guy sat behind a curtain and talked to people as joe through an intercom. parents could give "joe" their kids' names so he could address them by name and freak them out as they talked to him through the jail cell's bars.
Fun fact... Knott's used to own the little amusement park inside the Mall of America (in Minnesota) which used to be called Camp Snoopy & was obviously Peanuts themed. Charles Schulz was from Minnesota so Peanuts has a natural connection there. They sold it years ago and it changed hands a few times before finally being bought back by the mall owners and then licensed to Nickelodeon who spent a decent amount upgrading it to what it is now. Its nothing spectacular but for being inside a mall its not a bad little park for kids.
Next to sad eye joe used tobe a shop that sold cowboy clothing, right next to where the women would sew. Looks like its all closed up now. Is ghostown alive a newer attraction? All of those places were always locked up since I can remember. That stable I remember always being a gift shop. Soo crazy and cool how theyve opened up ghostown as a cool way to learn about history.
The haunted shack was located right across the graveyard (boothill). a new stage was put in its place (you can see it behind the train at 24:20) replacing the courthouse stage.
yes and no, its part of that family, root beer, birch beer, sasparilla, all very similar to un initiated, but if you rally pay attention there are slight differences in the taste. id almost add cream soda, but its the most radicly different of the three. and on the outer spectrum dont confuse them with the ginger family of ginger ale and ginger beer because those are totaly different. i know, t m i......
I was kicked out by Walter himself 50 years ago. I lived a few miles away and went with another neighbor kid and he stole some candy and Walter caught us as we tried to run under the bridge to the lagoon (now a parking lot) Years later I worked for the city and was at the park the day Walter died in his home on the grounds. Used to be a lagoon with a steamboat called the Cordilla D. All back when it was free. The boat cost .25 cents to ride and a nickle to feed the ducks. My mom had to come bail us out. She worked on the property.
Almost makes me sad I no longer work at the park, I would have loved to meet you! As a tip though, if you go to the bakery, where I used to work, in Ghost Town near the exit of Ghost Rider, there's an old picture of the original Trail to Ghost Town.I believe it depicts the trellis near the strollers and seems like an interesting tidbit to add to a video. You could probably teach the girls in there a thing or two! The old Spurs Chophouse is down that way, too, and they moved the panning for gold back to its original location in the queue for Ghost Rider. Also, if you go into the Ghost Town Grill and ask for a place mat, they'll likely let you have one.
It's been a few Decades since I've been to Knotts Berry Farm and I remember something about a house where water ran up instead of down- is that still there ? I heard it was removed which is sad, because it was pretty cool.
yeah, it was called The Haunted Shack. it used to be across the Graveyard (boothill) it's former site is now a stage for shows, you can see it behind the train at 24:20
The original "The Haunted Shack" is still in operation out at the Calico Ghost Town in the desert which Walter Knott bought and restored and is now a state park.
Thank you. That was really fun to watch. Brings back so many happy memories.

I agree!
This is a really good vlog. Wish they would bring back the little devil in the volcano.

22:28 My cousin the schoolteacher! :D
Hello Justin!
A very odd collection of areas at Knott's. Reminds me of our own Six Flags Over Georgia, another odd mix of themed areas.
Great vid. remember Walter Knott bought / took the best buildings from Callico, the 'ghost Town out of Barstow and brought them to Knots Berry Farm.... these are really OLD Ghost town buildings, just moved from the REAL Callico. Thanks again - great presentation!
I love the tombstone reference!!! knotts is amazing. I wish ghost town would stay alive. greatest experience I ever had
Hey Justin, have you seen the Mark Twain portrait above the fireplace in the Gem Shop??
I gotta get over on that side of the park. I work on the broad walk and Fiesta Village and don't get to travel WAAAAAAAAYYY over there.
But if they're Knott Berry's, what the heck are they?!

That Donald Sutherland comment cracked me up 😂

The haunted shack was located right across the graveyard (boothill). a new stage was put in its place (you can see it behind the train at 24:20) replacing the courthouse stage.
Had a crazy idea about breeding roller coasters 😂

In my home town they have this weird historical town at the Fairgrounds with displays like Knott's. It's really out of place.
The mayfeilds try to steal my gold map

Was I the only one who caught on to the Napolean Dynamite reference?
Spike is Snoopy's brother
the knotts chicken restaurant was temporarily shut down in 2014 for cockroach infestation
