  • Pionus parrots are different- in all good ways.
    It wasn’t easy for me to find a Pionus, but now we have a 4 month old - yay!
    How is my Pionus parrot different?
    Even though parrots are highly social, Ale, our White-crowned Pionus, is different in the sense that he seems in between independent and interdependent. He doesn’t always need me to be with him. He seems to like observing life, taking it all in. Of course, he wants to be with me and he wants to spend time together, but he’s not like my Golden Conure that demands more time and attention.
    Ale is also very observation. Those big eyes are constantly watching all of life, including his current 4 Parrotlet cage mates.
    So far, what an amazing baby!

    The Pionus I took care of years ago was an adult blue headed. He was pretty quiet and very sweet. So I can’t provide a comparison. Your baby is beyond sweet!❤️🥰😘

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 роки тому

      Quiet? I’m jealous! Ok, it’s not that bad, but I’m looking forward to, what I’m guessing, will be an older and more quiet and sweet Pionus. Did your bond? I’ve been surprised at how he’s in between independent and interdependent; I don’t feel like most parrots are like that.

    • @1hawaii21
      @1hawaii21 2 роки тому

      Isn’t that interesting. At the time I also had my yellow crowned Amazon. They were very different. My Amazon was very bonded to me. She would always come looking for me and wanted to be on me. She was not happy on her tree or cage. She would call (scream) or cry like a baby and beg for help. The Pionus (Blueberry) was content to stay on his perch. He would whistle and become a little more animated if I talked to him but he always seemed content being an observer. Anyone could go to the Pionus and put out a hand. He never tried to bite. On the other hand, my Amazon only had eyes for me. She would go to a woman but she was always ready to take a good bite from a man. Yes, I think the Pionus are generally calm birds without excessive animation. I’m also sure they are not all the same.

    Hello! Very interesting video & I feel my blue headed pionus is very similar! He also took a very long time to fully wean but I did the same process as you and watched his weight till he didn't need it! I'm excited to follow your bird- as my blue headed pionus will be 1 at the end of September!

    I so love him. He so wants fed mom. I'm glad I'm an old biker so parrot dropping don't bother me on my clothes. I thing parrots are so smart. my feather babies are great alarms and warner's when something comes up to my home. My Drago was a rescue The lady who owned him never let him out of his cage and left him alone for very long periods of time. She saw me with my sun conure riding on my shoulder. She asked if i would like to have a Hahn's macaw. I went to go look at him. He was bald and under weight. She was nice and gave him to me with his very large cage. At first he really didn't like me but over time we our now close fiends He still barbers not much, he's no longer bald. Sorry for a long reply. Keep making the great informative videos of your feather babies.

      Good for you for getting Drago! I think people don’t want to let the bird go, but when they aren’t LOVING it, it’s best to let it go. So glad you were able to rescue him - and thanks for the compliment. I LOVE sharing my bliss/feathered babies!

    He is beautiful. They are very rare here in Ontario Canada and hard to find. I have heard they are not as loud of other larger parrots and they have an interesting smell. What does yours smell like?

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 роки тому

      You are right! I should have talked about the smell - I just don’t notice. Supposedly their scent is stronger that an Amazon’s. Yes, Ale has a smell to him. I’d say it’s ‘musky.’ Because I LOVE my birds, I like the way the Zons smell, so I feel the same way about Ale. Sometimes I sniff them :) - but otherwise, it doesn’t register. LOL
      He squeaks so far, I’m hoping that mellows some when he decides that seeing me doesn’t mean he’s hungry allll the time! Love taking him places. Probably to lunch tomorrow!

    When my Jardins where 4 month old, they where also begging for food if I was in sight (also already weaned, I never gave them formula). Maybe you remember my video?
    They turned 6 month this week, and now there is still some begging, but much less than before. The female really loves to play with me, while the male plays more on his own. Both fly immediately to me if I try to leave the room, so I think they like human presence. Also they tend to take a nap, if no one is in the room, but start to play (or do the birdy dance) if I do homeoffice from there (even if I do it complete quitly).
    Do you know, in which age the Jardins should have their first molt? It seems my female lost some feathers, and she has suddenly a first very tiny red feather on her forehead. I am not sure, if that should already happen at 6 month, but could not find any information in my books or online.
    I love the rubber duck noises of your Pionus. Really a cuty! Is he preened by the parrotlets, or do they keep some safety distance?
    best whishes from germany

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 роки тому

      Hi Dirk, thanks for sharing how your Jardines are doing. You make me smile!!!
      Most parrots do have their first molt around 6 months, so I think your girl is doing very well.
      I know, they do not get fooled if you work quietly! What a wonderful thing that they are loving you and flying to you - and it is interesting that your male is more independent. My Parrotlets are like that, I feel like the females bond with me more so, so I prefer them :) - The Parrotlets and Pionus keep their distance, but really don’t mind one another. It has been very interesting to see them together. I feel like they like it. The Parrotlets may feel safer, who is going to come cause them trouble with such a big bird around them? And the Pionus I think likes having other birds around him that don’t bother him, don’t pick on him and don’t get in his way. He gets to eat the fresh vegetables first! It’s good to hear from you! Kiss your Jardines for me!

    Hola es la primera vez que veo tus vídeos , no se ingles y con el traductor de Google he ido sabiendo más o menos lo que dices,😅este año estoy esperando un Pionus senil como el tuyo, yo tuve uno hace dos años lo cogí con tres papillas pero a los dos meses me cogió una enfermedad la aspergilosis es una enfermedad de unos hongos las esporas de los hongos las tenía en el pulmón el veterinario me dijo que esas espiras edtan en todos los sitios , le estuve medicando durante cinco semanas pero al final murió 😭😭 era muy pequeñito y no tendría muchas defensas digo yo ….
    lo llevaba cada semana al veterinario pero no pudimos hacer nada por él, también estaba tomando papilla lo tuve durante tres o cuatro meses, pero la verdad es que el veterinario me dijo que le tenía que ir quitando yo una papilla y ponerle las semillas o el pienso porque ellos con hambre prueban otras cosas le daba la papilla más que nada porque le ponía la medicación en la papilla pero él Ya comía de todo ,comía fruta verdura arroz su pienso y algunas semillas era muy listo en fin una pena, a ver si este año puedo tener otro pero creo que lo cogeré un poco más grande para que yo solamente le de una papilla a la noche pero que ya empieza comer hay quien me ha dicho que puede ser que al darle yo una papilla se le fuera para el pulmón y esa papilla en el pulmón se pusiera malo y de ahí la enfermedad pero la verdad es que no me lo supieron asegurar porque al morir le tenía que haber hecho una autopsia pero no se la hice en fin que goces mucho de tu Pionus es muy bonito el mío se llamaba Rocky un saludo gracias por todo
