The Stultifera Navis mechanics are the devs' answer for those that complained how easy the Under Tides event mechanics are. The devs went wild In Stultifera Navis and the players complained how hard it is. Really can't please everybody.

I just remember people complaining about eggs and reaper flower. Where are these people complaining it was too easy? I only remember people dissing the boss a lot for being arguably the weakest boss in the game together with Jesselton.

I'm sure that's the common complaint, but my biggest problem with Stultifera Navis is its mechanics clash with its narrative. Don't get me wrong, the seaborn had interesting abilities, and the devs did a good job making them interesting, but for a species that adapts to nearly any obstacle, they're sure easy to shut down with status effects. The ultimate irony is that the faction that's supposedly best equipped to deal with them by tearing through their adaptation with sheer force is actually rather bad at it mechanic-wise.

UT was still pretty hard imo, prevented a lot of players easy wins because you can't just brute force the stages because of mechanics, haven't even heard from a vocal minority complaining about UT being easy, if anything it was just endless bitching about nervous impairment, the only thing I remember about UT being relatively easy was the boss because it was a big punching bag. As for mechanics in SN, I think it was probably because it's a major event of the theme they had already made a previous major event on (which were seabornes), so taking into account the last event, the story, and the current operator meta, they need to make this event stand out as a major event that's not so easily cheesed by Surtr, Chalter, Kalsit, Silverdad, Thorns and the like.

Very nice breakdown of the community's overall view of these mechanics. I started playing a few months ago and personally, I love when the game imposes restrictions on me because it forces me to think hard and come up with a different strategy than simply just spamming my meta ops. This really hit me hard in my Ashring risk 18 and SN-10 clear where I was stuck for days and hours of attempts trying to squeeze out the perfect attempt to beat these stages. It felt awful in the moment, but being able to share it with friends and look back on it made it worth it many times over. All of this being said, I might just be on copium because I have Pozy and she lets me get away with so much that I wouldn't be able to do before Ideal city. My original point still stands.
tl;dr I really like restrictions as a new player because it forces me to strategize where I normally wouldn't. I understand if you don't, some people aren't here for that and I respect it nonetheless. Pozy may have corrupted my sense of difficulty so this with a grain of salt

That being said, I mean specifically the light mechanic, I wasn't necessarily a huge fan of all the enemies interactions with light/dark. Though I didn't hate them I just didn't love them as much as I love the core mechanic itself.
I just specifically like having to unveil fog of war, not being able to spawn camp cheese, making some long range ops less powerful and some short range ops more powerful, making facing matter for 0 range operators and operators with omni directional range, etc... I think it would be a perfectly great mechanic with normal enemies.

I'm surprised to hear that near light and many other major events are so mixed received if this is true. Near light and Stultifera Navis were actually some of my favorite events in Arknights and I actually loved them because of the restricting situations the event forces you into. I really enjoy when Arknights constantly changes the way the game is played it makes you approach the game in a new way and gives less popular units a chance to shine. Arknights should not let the player always get away with similar strategies or else the game would just lose a big part of what makes it fun

i still don't get the hate for chapter 6
i've been doing it with Dobermann squad; and all it took to finish was simply bait cold drones and periodically block spiders with 1-2 block units away from your team. Yato, Plume, Noir and 1-star robots did a lot of job there, being cheap and reliable baits.
The only elites in these stages were weebs with swords and rare red mages - so we don't need full team of strong units.
..was it REALLY that horrible? Is the idea of baiting is so hard for people to implement?
Can it even be compared to enemies with 10second dodge, or light mechanics, etc?

The real reason everyone hates SN, NL, IC, and DH is S stages. The nature of AK's development cycle means we get new experiments in game mechanics on a schedule that is completely crazy by game development standards. There's just not that much time to playtest, so every event has **something** frustrating. But a 3 week duration means any frustration you have doesn't get to peter out after EX stages. You have to keep going for yet another week of even harder stages. Personally, I really like Near Light in a vacuum. I think it has some of the best mechanics of any Arknights event yet. The problem is that by the third time fighting Tola, Viviana, and the Blood Knight, I was just sick of it. I literally cheesed the Blood Knight into a hole with Weedy because I was having absolutely none of it and didn't want to think about his mechanics for even one more second

I started playing when The Great Chief returns event was running - I couldn't complete it cause my ops were way too weak, and I didn't have time to level them. Maria Nearl was the first event I 100% completed, followed by Near Light. The main thing that disappointed me about the event was that I had just pulled Fartooth and wanted to use her, but the light mechanic restricted me from using her, in her own event (basically)! I think having these events with unique mechanics is interesting and refreshing. The biggest complaint I had about Stultifera Navis was the creep on the floor, but that's cause my Fartooth said "what dodge?" to the dodgy bois. I'm glad it brought Lappland back up to being powerful again too, she's fun to use.

I think the light mechanic is neat because it forces weird positions and directions. It makes the facing of defenders with no range matter, it gives a new use to fast redeploy ops, and it forces really clear planning for deployment.
What I don't like is Dikaiopolis spawning dozens of threatening units that hone in on his position while he's invulnerable. Not a fan of those. (I totally could handle it with my units if I sunk some time into it, I'm just low on IRL sanity these days haha) But oh well, I'll come back later for the Oprime I can't get now. It's a rerun already, so it'll be in side stories when I'm ready. Same thought process I had when I joined into Sultifera and got my shit toasted in the first half of page 1 - I'll be ready for the rerun when that rolls around.

For reference, I started playing in October of 2022. The only event so far I didn't like was IC. I didn't care for the cars personally, but I could use them for a few things. I actually enjoyed the event up until I started doing the S stages. S-1 was fine, actually kinda fun in places while I had to repeatedly try different supports, skill timings, and deployment formations. S-2 was difficult and frustrating, but I did it and was satisfied. Then S-3 happened and I just gave up.
The mechanics I could deal with. The annoying range on the casters I could deal with. Having to use the cars when I didn't like them, I could deal with. But sending waves of enemies that are functionally immune to 2/3s of my damage, extremely high attack elites, and enemies with block requirements all at once was just too much at the time. There comes a point where you just stop having fun throwing yourself into a wall and I reached that point. Things might be different on the rerun, but that's how I feel about it.
On the other hand, I had fun with DH and NL. It really was just IC's particular combination of stuff that I didn't like. I haven't mentioned SN because I only got through half the EX stages and am saving the rest of it for the rerun, so I don't think I can properly judge it. I did like what I played of it though.

SN was one of my first real event and it was hard, but it set my expectations on how hard AK gameplay really is and that got me excited. so far none of the AK content gave me that difficulty like SN does, maybe the stage (iirc chapter 8 or 9) where you have to escorts Tallulah while drones boss all over the map. oh and Emperor Blade, that one still one of the hardest boss I ever faced.

It’s not just the predators, dodge is inherently bad game design in Arknights. If they changed the 80% dodge to 80% damage reduction from physical and arts, I think there would be a lot less complaining. The issue with dodge isn’t the difficulty, it’s the way autodeploy works. Rng in autodeploys changes when trust changes, and dodge forces the player to have rng in their clears. There’s always a way to counter dodge, but if the player attacks an enemy that can dodge a single time, there’s a chance autodeploy will change later. I had to adjust my autodeploy 3 times in SN-10 because the predators die at different times, before it was stable. At least for operators, the player chooses to take that risk; with enemies, there’s not much you can do except be extremely safe.

I... I like Near Light so far. The light mechanics are genuinely fun to work around, though that may be in small part due to my penchant for preferring fast redeploy operators. By contrast, I despised Stultifera Navis because, with my play style, the creep was another thing for me to pay attention to -- and, in some cases, a bunch of things to pay attention to. Not only did I have to be aware of the lanes I was holding, but also the points the creep was encroaching on. I seriously felt so overloaded while playing through the late EX stages and S stages that I needed to take breaks not just to get up, move around, and stretch, but to destim and decompress. I felt a massive wave of relief when I got the all clear medal, like I could finally relax.

As someone who started around Near Light, what I hated on my initial playthrough, and thought was BS was both the Corrosion Snipers and the Viviana clones. Sure it was annoying to have to take maps slow when deploying units, but coming off of Dossoles Holiday and the Carnelian event left me with Carnelian, Watergun Chen, and Mizuki(the absolute goat). I also had built La Pluma to a decent point at the time, and pulled for Flametail, because Nearl was boring. Some of the units that carried me were actually Mizuki, Fang, and the best bird, La Pluma. So when a map had Viviana clones... it was annoying but doable, but the Corrosion Snipers were so infuriating. Just the fact that they can attack from so far away, and remove defense made my few central units crumble. It was even worse cause I didn't have an easy method to deal with them besides throwing Gravel on the field to redirect some shots as Bubble was just a pain. Aside from the light not letting me hit those snipers, it was actually fun to play around.
When Stultifera rolled around, it was a lot easier to go through due to experience and having a lot of units built. The creep forced fun interactions of placing units ahead to slow the spread, and forcing the use of tankier ops to keep the infestation in check. While the dodge bros were annoying, it didn't take long for me to learn that CC made them into jokes as Kjera and Gnosis had come out, and Kjera is my waifu, so you can bet she was in the squad. When I looked into the mechanics more online, and found out that they were weak to silence, that just made building Lappland so much easier to justify considering she has a 5 second passive silence.
Finally, IC... What? People complained about guys who only had dodge for a few seconds, so poking them and running away was a viable tactic? Yea... IC is the easiest event among these three, and I cannot understand why you would complain about the funny cars or lovable robots. Now complaining about not having the Carnelian skin for the event, I would whole-heatedly agree about being upset. And to further dunk on the durins... in normal stages, they never come out in such numbers that a reliable defender and guard combo could hold them off long enough for your snipers and single target casters to sweep up. They weren't even as annoying as the Waregeists, which straight-up demands you have rapid arts damage or have built any of the three poisoners at the time(Ethan, Blue Poison, or Thorns).
Obviously, hindsight is 20/20, and those who started around those events, well I'm sorry you had to deal with Stultifera and Near Light, and hope that IC's gimmicks were fun to mess with. As much as I hate two enemies from Near Light, it definitely was good for teaching players how to position units, and Stultifera was fun in encouraging an aggressive play style. Don't be like me, build Bubble to have someone that can sit there doing nothing on skill while enemies wonder why they're out of motivation and health. Or get lucky and get Hoshiguma... that's an option too

Near Light is one of my favourite events from a lore and gameplay perspective. I think the light mechanic is one of the better event gimmicks. Ideal City's car and SN romba were fun mechanics but altered the game in a different way to Near light. Those mechanics added a different aspect to the gameplay being used to assist the operators. The light mechanic limits the players ability deploy which actually made me think about how I should probably use my operators (I should do this anyway but Surtr go brrr). While not beginner friendly I'd argue from a lore perspective all three of those mechanics come from sequel events where potentially in the Devs eyes players have already cleared the previous events. While in reality new players probably aren't in a rush to go back and play the old events if the Devs limited their event difficulty and design to be beginner friendly every event would play the exact same

Dropping down operators all willy nilly is fine and all but there's only so much you can do with 'place defender on lane and have snipers, lords or casters deal with whatever is being blocked'. Now I had to think a lot more, consider my deployment order (Armorless Union Snipers), consider how my tactics would change based on what direction certain ops were facing (like maybe having Gavial reach out from the bottom lane to help deal with the mid lane filled with incoming Candle Knight trainees while still ripping her lane enemies apart and taking heat off the defender I stationed at mid). It was a lot of fun! In the end seeing that completed medal card after failing the event the first time when I was a new player just gave me great big smile of pride

And sure, the other two events were a bit more restrictive for the average player, but at the same time none of it ever felt impossible for me, even if I did resort to a guide for some of the more difficult stages to retain my sanity (the resource). I completely understand but NL cemented my hatred for bosses like the Blood Knight, who are just giant walking statsticks. I much prefer bosses that try to do something fun or weird (ex: IC's Minimalist, who while I don't super like bc his effects make it hard for me to see, still find fairly novel bc Flying bosses are pretty rare, or SN's Endspeaker, who I actually had a fair amount of fun beating, which is rare for me bc I usually get tired of the bosses that appear in 3 sections) then ones that only exist to walk menacingly to box while one-shotting my ops (Well the only boss I dislike as much as him is Manfred, who while technically novel, I do not enjoy any boss that "demands" true damage, even if the canon is free true damage). The light mechanic I don't find the most annoying (that probably goes to LE's light ray puzzles, bc their design felt really half-baked) but I did hate how hard it is to save yourself when you fuck up bc of how punishing it is. Made me feel like I was wasting more practice plans/sanity then I needed to.

I'm first time player for NLrerun, and I didn't feel too bad playing it.
Certainly not on the level of Ideal City cars mechanics bad nor SN cancer enemies bad. Though the main reason why I felt like that is because I started right before SN and gotten my first E2 during at the end of first week of the event.
Meanwhile SN asked for specific operators that I simply didn't have and couldn't easily build as a new player. As for IC... it's pretty much the same. My roster was stronger by then and I did manage to finish the event. But I still lacked in arts damage department. Every stage in IC came down to finding an Ifrit lane and using the cars.
For newer account. Event mechanics that ask for particular operators is really painful and frustrating.
As for NL. None of that. The lights are fun to play with and while they might nerf some long range operators, it's not by much. It certainly doesn't say... haha, half of the operators that you build are useless in this event!

I personally loved all the events listed that people so hate. For round 2, after having gone through NL hard the first time, I love going wild and just destroying the event with Uncle Horse or Horn's flares or whatnot. The cars were really fun because I got to watch things just destroy the enemy if I built my comedy roadways right. The most fun part about the restrictions and conditions they throw at us I think, is figuring out a way to best them and then comparing what you did with friends after just to see how wildly divergent strategies might get.
I recall during SN mostly relying on Blitz, Ash and W and such. A friend just shot them with Fartooth and doubled up on true damage with kalstit, nearl and Amiya. Another friend taught me that Pushes still work even on dodge and shoved lots of them into holes.
There's just so many ways to do things even with restrictions that trying to do something funny or weird and then seeing it work out and then talking about it is what keeps me playing the game. No stage is impawsible with a bit of creativity afterall. That's what gives the game it's koalaty.

  • @luisdagamer02

Arknights' recent mechanics seem to be trying to challenge the "broken" operators. An enemy can't simply die to 1 or 2 hits from Chalter/Mlynar/Surtr if they had dodge. Perhaps this could be in response to people saying the game is "too easy" or "boring" because of using said operators. The mechanics also bring light to some underused ops because of their specific conditions like how Lappland's silence suddenly became relevant with the dodge mechanics.
Although I like this taking of the spotlight from the meta ops and giving it to some of the wide roster of Arknights, it is kinda sucky that it feels forced. It felt as though you HAD to bring Lappland or Gnosis to clear stages. Thankfully the game offers tools to counteract this (roomba, cars...). This difficulty also made niche clears more amazing. I was absolutely shocked when I saw ILA's clear of Stultifera Navis EX-8 CM with 3* only team, a team that doesn't even have cc or silence or wandering medics to go against the mechanics.
Anyways, it's as you said. It sucks that we have less freedom to clear recent event stages, but it's mostly just coming back to Arknights' strong point of being a challenging game, and when the game gets easy, HG will find ways to kick us in the balls.

  • @oturan9728
    @oturan9728 Рік тому +1

I am one of those people you are calling out for IC, I had no issue with the car mechanic at first until IC-8-EX where they are throwing so much dodging Durin at you at once that you are almost forced to use them, same for the S stages and I don't even wanna talk about the cars that can do so much damag to your operators to me there is no middle ground for that, either you like using the car mechanic either you will hate the event.
As for NL I think the mechanic is pretty alright except as you said those damn bow ennemies with global range and you can't do much about it but you can work around that, it can also "nerf" some operators like Dorothy and fartooth but that isn't too much of a big deal either.
And for SN yeah some ennemies are kinda annoying, looking at you the dodgy bois and the tree who can stack up attack and especially the boss can be annoying at first because he have a lot of mechanic but you get around that since the event was 3 weeks.

  • @xjustn

As someone who started during stultifera, I definitely found it to be a challenging event at the time but I also didn't expect to clear too much. I was just hopeful to get lumen. Since then my accounts grown quite a bit and I didn't have much trouble with chapter 6, ideal city, or this event. I'm fairly confident that a rerun through SN wouldn't be much trouble now and I'm probably at the point where some players end up picking a niche to play in.
All of this to say, when you start and there are annoying mechanics. I just kinda of expect they were outside of my strength range at that time but as you pick up knowledge, exp, and some e2 and good ops the game becomes easy enough for you to navigate that challenges like these becomes welcome imo. Game balance is really tricky though, SSS is a great example where I felt the initial release was hard without certain ops, but the nerfed version feels a bit too easy.
However, i do think the core feeling of "removing freedom from the players" is what a lot of people get frustrated with.

I really did enjoy Maria Nearl and Near Light, since all the different enemy types have gimmicks, that have room for interesting counter-play, while the light mechanic is just restricting enough to be a challenge, but is simple to manage with some planning.
Navis on the other hand... enemies had (sometimes multiple) nasty and unfair gimmicks on top of great stats, on top of the nasty creep. I would have been a lot happier if they cut either the creep or the stats of the enemies, because both were just too much.

I opened NL-7 with E1 Lv. 40 Wild Mane S1 to kill the first corrosion sniper. She was at low pot at the time so I couldn't redeploy her in time for the later wave of archer (it was really close), which made me improvise using a guard + a healer.

I think that I find this stage annoying because my Dorothy's bombs clearly would hit multiple enemies, but uh oh, they were in the shadows, therefore somehow untouchable :T

My only gripe on any event is that you can't just use the practice plans as a safety net while clearing. You have to specifically choose to practice the stage then redo the stage without it. I've lost count on how many times I cleared a CM stage with a practice plan only to fail multiple times while doing it for real.
Full sanity refund for new chapters, you the real MVP.

Personal SN enjoyer and kinda a hardcore player here, and I hate NL mechanics to the core.
And I'm speaking of it in a statistical manner: don't get me wrong, the light mechanics narrow down the set of possible build orders drastically. Combined with map design in certain circumstances (looking at you NL-S-2), the "freedom theft" in NL is actually much more absurd than any other, and it gets even worse when considering optimal tactics for harder stages involving its mechanics (EX, S, and even CC#8)

I like the light mechanics, but I hate the global range corrosive snipers

Near light mechanics make it harder but also fun imo.
Also Bloodknight has one of the best visual designs in the entire game, including operators, enemies and npcs.

People hated Near Light? It's one of the best event for me. The gimmicks are engaging as hell

As long as they don't have oermsnent dodge im actually fine like in ideal city. But the seaborns in stultivera just makes me go bald. I dont have snyone that can do true damsge besides amiya, and my silaence choice is one raised lappland it kinda pissed me off how i need to borrow a gnosis to finish the last hard stage. I probably can finish it if i work hard but im not smart enough to do it 😢

As someone who has been playing for maybe a bit over a month here and there and is at lvl 48 with no E2 operator yet, I can say it was really challenging and I had to search for guides after NL-5...
But I'm really dumb and I don't have a lot of free time.

You see it in other games so much, people hate challenges that aren't straighforward and/or limit you in one way. I think it's necessary otherwise it'll get kinda stale

Actually I love the mechanics in Nearl Light very much, it's a healthy challenge to work around with visibility and op placement.
What I hate is the sheer dps check that are the later CM stages, especially the one that forced Kyostinv in his low op strat to bring 2(!) of the strongest 6* in the game. Like, what do they test those stages with?? Not 4*-only team for sure. Luckily I have Surtr, so I'm not in the "strong 6*" waiting room and if I borrow myself another [strong 6*]TM I may have a chance for an upper hand in this stage.

We have no confirmation, but there's a strong belief that the game is indeed balanced around 4 stars, but at high level. And even if not, hey, at least it's still beatable with them, so it's fine

@@konundra Yes, but I do admit it was very painful last year, but with time I eventually got better, and this time around it wasn't that big of a deal
