  • Why are teenagers so anxious all the time? This is actually a question I get from my clients who are parents of teens.
Most of us parents don't fully understand the pressure our teenagers are under living in this digital social age.
We didn’t have a screen that we were glued to telling us that we weren’t good enough the way we were….that to belong, we had to mold ourselves into a version of ourselves that wasn’t really who we were…wasn’t our true self.
Teenager's anxiety comes from a lack of self-trust. A core belief that they are not good enough , not capable enough to handle everything they might have to go through. They worry they’re not strong enough to deal with all the potential challenges they’re thinking about.
More times than not, they don’t feel good enough to meet all your expectations of them, all the expectations of their teachers, family members, & friends. They start with one anxious thought that leads to another, and another…. spiraling out of control……their thoughts lead to more and more anxious feelings, creating a negative thought loop that they don’t know how to get out of.

My 13 year old was really anxious till I pulled her out of school and put her in online school. The bullying and otherwise toxic environment that made it difficult for her to study the things she loved were very hard on her at school. Now she spends time with her friends outside of school, is studying Adobe Creative Cloud because she loves it, and recently passed the reading portion of the SAT college entrance exam.
Not saying public school is a factor for all teens, but I do think that it can contribute.

Absolutely! Each child's situation is different. It's great you were able to see exactly what was contributing to her anxiety and address it head on. Great job!
