    And here I am, covering my trays with the lids! Good to know I don't have to worry about freezer burn! What a great ideal with the shelves also! Thanks for all you do to show us new ideals. 😊

    So why doesn't the freeze dryer cause freezer burn?

    • @Philat4800feet

      Time. Freezer burn can take weeks or months. The cold, dry air removes moisture from the food, causing dehydration and oxidation. This results in changes to the texture and flavor of the food, making it appear discolored and with a dry, leathery texture. While freezer burn doesn't make the food unsafe to eat, it can affect its quality.
      Freeze dryers control sublimation with heat and vacuum and takes 24-48 hours. This leaves the food dehydrated but with retained nutritional value, flavor, and texture.

    I am just starting to freeze dry. Not really just starting I am still waiting for my freeze dryer to show up. Harvest Right said two to three weeks, so soon. Thanks for the tips. I have been wanting to get a welder too.

      Freeze drying can be addictive.

      @Philat4800feet So true, I'm SO addicted. If I don't have anything specifically that I need to process, I'll be searching my fridge/freezer/pantry for any random thing that might freeze dry 😅😅😅

    As I wait.. and wait. Oh and wait. For harvest right to answer my ticket for the inadequate vacuum #9 issue. My poor freezers are crammed. I have so much stuff in bags to get into the freeze dryer.. not to mention the 8 trays that are waking in line. So frustrating.

      That’s why I got 2nd one when went on sale. When both ready to go, I can’t keep enough ore frozen to start the next batch. But right now, one has in Utah.

    The shelf is a great idea.
    I'd need to make sure mine was very level to support liquids.
    Does your unwrapped pre-frozen food ever get that nasty "freezer burn" flavor?

    • @Philat4800feet
      @Philat4800feet  6 місяців тому

      My prefrozen food only stays in the freezer no longer than 36 hours and everything in there is wrapped well, so I never have any "taste/smell" transfer.

    TAHINI TAHINI TAHINI: Hey Phill at 4800ft.. We generally know that OILs dont play well in the FD'rs. However.. How do you think they're making this DRY Tahini mix from Napa Valley? I love hummus and of course tahini is huge part of the flavor.. so.. I'm wondering how they might be doing that? Any Ideas? I would guess that bottle of dry mix might not last longer than a year.. but still that would be awesome.

      Would your video *Freeze Drying Nuts* Apply to FD'ing sesame seeds?

      Sounds like a sort of peanut butter. Take a look at this video on FD peanut butter. Perhaps this would work the same way. I'd vacuum pack it with a OA.
