Maybe you should say we have 12 ribs, the first 7 are true ribs which have direct connection with the sternum by costal cartilage, the bottom 5 ribs include 3 ribs which do not directly connect to sternum and 2 floating ribs. There may be misunderstandings if you say 7 true ribs, 5 false ribs and 2 floating ribs :) (It confused me at first) Anw, I love your videos. They have helped me a lot in term of visualization.
about 40% of the thoraxic cavity contains abdominal viscera (indicated by the diaphragm), so I would draw the pleural cavities and mediastinum smaller! I know you probably tried to keep it simple. AWESOME TUTORIALS! Keep it up :) Love your videos
The use of words like true, false or even floating is incorrect to describe the ribs. Its very much out dated. Now it consists of the first 7 that are called the Vertebrosternal Ribs, the next 3 are the Vertebrochondrial Ribs, and the last 2 are the Vertebral Ribs. Also thank you, I memorized a lot thanks to your videos
Your welcome. My textbook hasn't been updated either. It's all thanks to my professor. I swear they are geniuses. I don't know how they retain all that info.
asalaamu alaykum i think doctor there is little bit wrong things in the video i mean you said first 7th are true ribs thats absoulutly true but the 8th 9th and the 10th are false so 3 are false ribs and the 11th and also 12th are floating ribs thank you brother.
What they meant by 5 false ribs is that all the last five ribs ARE false!! The last two of these are called floating but they come under false ribs as well
According to the latest edition of Merrill’s Atlas (Fourteenth Edition, Volume One), “the first seven ribs are called true ribs because they attach directly to the sternum. Ribs 8 to 12 are called false ribs because they do not attach directly to the sternum. The last two ribs (eleventh and twelfth ribs) are often called floating ribs because they only attach to the vertebrae.” Ribs 8-12 are all false due to no direct connection to sternum. In addition to being false ribs, 11-12 are also deemed floating.
