Theres no evidence, video or even a final will of that. But are quick to make to products and cards expensive, so OFC we want money in return, not some switch, air fryer or some metallic cardboard SHEESH
@@kraigferrell3301 unfortunately because of legal reasons I think with shueisha they can’t do prize money :( they should do starlight sheets or secret rare sheets that they can sell
The prizing thing with Yugioh is poor, it just is. I mean, how am I supposed to pay for my sister’s eye surgery with a air fryer, stainless steel card, play mat, and deck box?
At the end of the day yugioh players still have to eat, to pay basic stuff like rent, food, clothes, etc. So a cash prize still looks better, or even a valuable type of prize for top cut players thats woth it.
I'm with Patrick on it... Real champions, who love the game (which is important), don't play for the prizing. I will preface this and say though, you can do good prizing without awarding cash lol... I like that there is no money involved directly.. and clearly their past prizing shows they can put more effort into it than just a steam deck or air fryer.. as shows the $2,000 crystal trophies that, wouldn't cost them more than a steam deck to make themselves and eBay prices show people want lol. The steel cards are a good prize, but like I've been parroting forever now... Exclusive alt art staple cards that are numbered on the place and say which event that they were awarded at... Bonus points if they have the players name on them... And MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY ARE PLAYABLE; these things would go for as much as crush card or minerva did and be a huge hit... Most importantly, wouldnt be format warping and create the whole "the strong get stronger" winners circle that those did also.
@@Camelotsmoon I reckon they should just do card packs for prizes since us pros don’t do it for money or prizes it’s just for fun . Like come on people we don’t need to have anything to play this

Sadly I have to agree to Hoban in that tweet, demanding to get anything more than memorabilia for winning a Yu-Gi-Oh! competition seems to me out of place. I personally separate well hobbies and work and I do not expect to plus from my hobbies. It's not why one should pick them! Do you want to plus by buying cards at low price and selling them for a profit? The stock market will give you that but in a surely bigger scale and (often) on a less random base. Do you want to plus by showing your ability in a card game made by skill and probability? Poker is right there and you can gain much more over a long career. I do not expect to plus when I go scuba diving, or when I play soccer with 9 other friends, or when I visit a city and go through the main landmarks, cathedrals, or museums. Why should I expect to plus for Yugioh?
Bro stf you are a Bum basically for Konami giving out Air Fryers for wiinning a tournament. Lol dude literally take your Sub Terror gurus and keep playing Dueling Book with the other Low Rated Duelist
I agree, while I can see why some people would become disgruntled after a while of not getting much in return you do still need to remember that at the end of the day this is a children’s card game. It is a hobby, that can be a ton of fun. It’s no longer a hobby if you are looking to make a profit off of it, as long as you are having fun then that should be worth it. If the reason you aren’t having fun is because you aren’t getting much in return, then that’s when you find a different hobby that will give that to you. Would it be nice to get a cash prize? Sure no one hates money. In the end I doubt this will ever apply for me because I’m just going to be at my local card shop playing my favorite XYZ decks with my friends having fun
its not about plusing. it has literally never been about plusing (though pokemon seems to have no problem having people plus at every event 🤔). modern day TCG decks are high 3 digits or low 4 digit prices. and you have to pay an entry fee, and you have to travel. you mentioned it as solely a hobby, but still at the same time mention the word competition. the same way people win prize money for winning sports tournaments all the time. does that suddenly make soccer not a hobby?
@@gentrum_6879 There is competition also in Super Mario 64 speedruns, and yet nobody has any cash prize for breaking the world record, because it does not generate revenue. Nobody is paying to watch Yugioh players play and it is well known that YCSs are at a loss when factoring out the cost of staff and of the venue, and 95+% of Yugioh players, who are casuals, would never think to follow the stream, let alone go, to one. When you play in the 5v5 futsal tournament of your city, for which you pay some money to participate, pay the shoes, and invest time in training, do you expect to make the money you invested in equipment back? Not at all, and yet it is still a local competition. I have known people that play in the Italian top league of Floorball (basically hockey on an indoor pitch), a sport unknown to most, and even if they are at the country's top level they make zero money back from travels. It is just what it is, if you win in Yugioh you have a trophy and a moment in which you lift it on stream with some crowd cheering at you. If you want more than that, I think you should play a different sport or activity.
Why even participate if you know you’re going to sell the prize card. Unless the card value will be wayy higher than what you paid to play in the tournament, why not stay home?

Common sense would tell you not to spend thousands on cardboard and pay for the surgery but guess that’s a stretch for you eh?
