Brings a tear to the eye. Days of reading Boardwatch and running WWIV, Roboboard. I have my original license for Synchronet somewhere from back in the day.
Watching this again, Shooter really nails so much about the nature of being a true sysop. If I didn't have aBSiNTHE I would feel like a part of me is missing.
Really looking forward to this episode. I can just add that ABBS (Amiga-version of the very popular MBBS which is for x86) is still developed and got some nice bugfixes recently. ABBS was the more popular Amiga BBS software in Norway and was used majorly for non-warez boards such as boards which ran the more legal route (with exceptions, of course).
Great work man!!! Please keep this content coming. I had only heard my father speak of bbs servers before. Your documentaries have inspired me to set up my own!
PETSCII and Color64 FTW! :) Very much enjoying the series, well done. Lot's of great memories and lifelong friends made thanks to the BBS era of the 80s and 90s. Still "calling" a few C64 BBS' via telnet and just enjoy the look and feel for both function and nostalgia.
Wildcat! Interactive Net Server was nice and still sold , BSS for windows that did try to take the old and new mixing it, With a bbs/internet style bbs.
Indeed. I actually don't know who maintains wwiv any more. And whilst it is nice to hear about the older software, the documentary is supposed to represent BBSes of the modern day.
Fragment with Ozz Nixion was interesting. I was looking for some way to make an email server for private use with my private domain. I would learn about it.
PS Legacy/X BBS software is called Titanium BBS now
Where can I get a copy of this software? Either one will work.
@@crkrjak2001 AFAIK it will be released soon, however it is still in alpha and as a result it is closed to the developers until beta release
@@AlsGeekLab How about a version of Legacy/X? Open source right?
@@crkrjak2001 legacy/X was a development name for titanium. Neither have been publicly released yet. It will be open source on release
Alright thanks for clarifying.

I love Waylon. I cant imagine being his son. Shooter and I are months apart in age. Blows my mind how much he looks like his dad.

This is a great piece! Thank you.
Glad you like it!
Such an epic series. I
Aww thanks Ryan! And a wonderful story!

Thankyou very much for your kind comment! Very pleased that it has led to you getting involved!
Excited to check out your BBS Series! Thanks for the heads up about your channel! -Tom
Thanks Tom! Parts 1-3 of the back to the BBS documentary already up there if you ever fancy a binge watch ! 😁

Great video! Very cool to hear everyone's perspective and to see the different offerings!!

Still owned by Mustang Software?
@@joshuagibson2520 They seem to still be listed as the owner still , but Santronics Software, Inc seems to be ones working on it.
I did run a Maximus BBS for years.
This is fantastic.
Many thanks!
I ran a wildcat bbs back in the early 90s. Im going to start a Warez one up for sure. That acid art was fucking sick.
do it! Next episode of doco is re warez/underground BBSes and then the one after that is on ANSI etc.
I now have a BBS btw: bbs.alsgeeklab.com:2323
Renegade BBS were the best 1990s era boards. Terminate! V1.4 , the final terminal program by Bo Bendsten was the best term program by far.
I think it even had a built in BBS and a War Dialer included as well.
RENEGADE 4 LIFE
I loved my AT&T 2224 modem back then
Rob is the man.
He sure is!
Love this series. Watching live is so much fun...
Would be awesome to get Apam in one of these, as the author of Magicka and brand-new Talisman!
I would have liked to have seen wwiv mentioned, but hey, only so many things can fit into an episode I guess.

@@AlsGeekLab wwiv is very active with new releases regularly. Rushfan is the one working on it.

24:30 Thanks for the flattering comments there, Chris (finalzon.synchro.net)!
Al Look at Major BBS and Worldgroup software also
Hello everyone
PCBOARD!
why does rob swindell look like fucking max headroom in the video
Rob Swindell! The My Pillow guy of the modern BBS?
Well no. Rob isn't an idiot. :D
Here is a brand new toolkit (dev oriented) for building retro BBSes using modern stuff: github.com/sblendorio/petscii-bbs
