They weren’t years away. In 2008 summit US heavily supported Ukies in NATO. Back then the EU was against: France, Germany etc. The good old Europe. But with anti-Ru sentiment, LGBT oppression, this time the EU would probably have voted “yes”.
But the war in Ukraine is as Blinken said not only about NATO. He presented it as “Ukraine should be part of Ru in one way or another”, but it is rather like Vietnam: a part of Ukraine loves Ru and wants to be with it and an another part doesn’t. US backs these who doesn’t, and helps them to overthrow presidents elected by the entire Ukrainian nation, leaving no other thing to do to Russians to support the part which is pro-Russian.

Yes, the senator's statements were rational, but the thing he's gotta remember is this; the Soviet Union no longer exists. All these countries Russia was going into: Georgia, annexing Crimea, backing a separatist movement in Donbas, going towards Moldova. These are things Russia has no right to do. And Blinken is absolutely correct. The invasion of Ukraine isn't about NATO expansion, it's about Russia's (namely Putin) inability to see Georgia and Ukraine as sovereign countries. Putin has been going sour ever since Ukraine started leaning more towards Europe and away from Russia. @ Kat Fureh (from Wikipedia) The United States invasion of Grenada began at dawn on 25 October 1983. The U.S. and a coalition of six Caribbean nations invaded the island nation of Grenada, 100 miles (160 km) north of Venezuela. Codenamed Operation Urgent Fury by the U.S. military, it resulted in military occupation within a few days.

One huge problem with ukraine entering NATO. There was no way on Gods green earth that Russia would ever allow that to happen and anyone who doesn’t understand that does not understand the region. Would we ever allow Canada to join Russia and become part of the soviet block and place nukes or other offensive weapons just north of our Great Lakes? Hello McFly! Anybody home!

How? He basically said Ukraine should not be a part of NATO regardless of Ukraine's feelings.
Then he said, US should have no influence on Ukraine and is to blame, but acts like the Kremlin isn't constantly influencing Ukraine, Belarus or Georgia.
It's really not a good argument. If Ukraine was in NATO Russia would never have attacked. If Ukraine wants to join NATO, it's their choice as a sovereign nation to choose to join any international alliance they want.

I assume Blinken disagree about the Monroe doctrine. He probably will stand up for take away sanctions to Cuba too. In Blinken way of thinking there was no reason to punish Cuba, because they was free to decide their own future. Blinken is a dishonest person, he should rather admit that USA wanted this war.
