His postseason stats are absolutely mind blowing and will probably never be replicated.

Been following baseball and football since the late part of the 50s. Only two player that I can think of dominated their position, one being LT of the NY football Giants and this guy Mo Rivera. Lucky for me and million of other fan was living in the once great state of NY when both played.

42 post season saves. A career era of 2.21, it will never be replicated and neither will his cut. NEVER EVER. Just happens to be my favorite Yankee of my generation, and also of all time. Watching him on that mound was like magic. Sandman Mo The 🐐

Y'all remember when 95 was "great velocity"? Wasn't all that long ago throwing 100mph around the batter's home zip code made you an elite closer.

This was also 95 at the plate. They measure at the release now. So it wouldve been faster in todays metrics

@@TamLe-fi2gq that's interesting. I've always taken the radar gun at face value. Bet those sports statisticians could adjust for changes like distance, measurement accuracy and precision, players' sizes, etc.
Idk if cameras were good enough that we could compare velocity vs movement trendlines, but that would be interesting. I think Maddux threw harder than he's given credit for, but he put it into spin instead of just speed. Can't make the ball move like that unless you spin the hell out of it. Would be cool to see clear graphs, but I still think pitchers are a lot faster than 25 years ago, on average.

not only did he blow the last half inning from the 4th consecutive world series ring, he also blew 2 saves against the 04 red sox that ended the 1918 curse. His only losses are as epic as his gaudy stats.

    • @vietnamvet4533

@vietnamvet4533 a blown save is a blown save. It doesn't make a fk if it's a wild pitch or a walk. A bad throw to 2nd is even worse, because it's a preventable routine. And Brady never blew anything, the other team beat him. So I guess u learned something today, didn't you lieutenant Dan?

There was no confusion for batters whether it was a fastball or a cutter. They knew it was going to be a cutter, and still couldn't hit it. Can't get more impressive than that.

Cutters don't break arm side. That's a 2 seamer. A cutter only breaks glove side of the pitcher.

Not really, the guy won 5 titles and keep in mind there was the fact that Enrique Wilson was going to be on the plane that would later crash in Queens. After the series was lost, the victory parade was cancelled which led to Wilson taking the earlier flight instead. Mo acknowledged it as well in an interview later on.
