Yes I too think so western pours lot of money on R&D and then they get required results. We give up too early. Look at the development of MQ-9A it's first flight conducted in 2001 then they ordered 2 prototypes in 2007 and began full scale induction in 2011. In case of TAPAS the first flight was conducted in 2016 and in between we didn't provide proper funds plus there was covid too. We should give it a try a must say. 😕

While on one hand we have been vocal about Aatmamirbhar, on the other hand we also have to address the immediate requirement of our forces. Indigenous technology development programmes should not be closed permanently, they should be funded and supported and immediate requirements should be addressed for the time being with limited acquisition leaving a room for induction of indigenous systems.
We should completely support Tapas.Indian defense forces can wait for few more decades till this technology becomes obsolete. Make these public sector PSUs accountable.

The main issue is what specific local innovation occurred in terms of sensor packages, electronics, telecommunications, weapons development and delivery, AI, materials, power plant, stealth (radar / IR / visual / audio evasion), camouflage, automated refueling and rearming, high up-time, network centric command and control, sea borne operations, algorithms for data analysis...etc etc. If it was a zero on all fronts, someone at the DRDO needs to be sacked !

He is also pressurising the govt to delay induction of ATAGS howitzer so he could manufacture and sell ATHOS to the Indian Army. A lot of politics is going on. Nope please no, please noooooo. Do you guys even know how many crashes does a development vehicle does ? We are quite lucky that we arnt facing these many crashes in our projects (reason maybe be due to good development of these projects by DRDO), but on average there are many incidents that took place during the development and even after the development. For example the MQ9 reaper drone crashed for over 50 times from its induction back in the 2001, and that doesn't include the development trails incidents. There are many others too, but I can't remember them as of now. The point is, just a single crash doesn't make a vehicle useless. TAPAS is the first stage for actual drone development and manufacturing in india, if this thing gets blocked then the drone ecosystem will be dragged down to another decade. Though it's not good to believe unless a official reports comes in. But I do think that IAF will by heron, but will also buy TAPAS. But let's wait for the official report.
I thing ADA’s new single engine MALE UAV Archer NG would be the successor of tapas and might get good orders in future..Hermes seems to be interim solution.

So for a stop-gap measure by the hermis drone & quickly find the causes of the crashes of tapas drone . Indigenous system should be given much more priority than foreign systems especially if those systems are not all complicated to design & manufacture inhouse in India ! My question is What would happen if Some day Israelis get fully engaged in a really large scale war with arab neighbours ( hypothetical situation) & at the same time we need these new drones more in number as some got crashed or got shotdown ? ( already IAF is in trouble because of Ukraine-russian war & spares for Su-30 systems are getting difficult to arrange as Russians are busy diverting the supplies to Russian airforce same thing for Indian Army's huge T series tanks ) Funny thing : If our Govt. had been the sponcer for lets say Saab Grippen & for a moment presume "saab" was a indian company . China, Turkey, Iran, Israel etc. could have just purchased US or Russian weapons but they showed patience and are building their own even if the first versions were not very good. No wonder for the first 65 years we hardly built anything except some missiles because pimps could not sell long range foreign missiles to us due to MTCR. But we still bought short range Smerch, A2A, ATCGa, Milan etc. Some change in the last 10 years but it’s still to early. Indian arms Pimps are too strongly entrenched.

A lot of products begin their life on the assembly line, slowly their component are sourced through vendor development. This increases the indigenous content & in a few years a lot of components & subassemblies are manufactured in Bharat. That's one way to develop a succesful product at volume, speed & requisite quality. This will fulfill the needs of the country. DRDO starts everything from scratch, takes a lot of time, comes up with sub-standard products. What is the result? The military tests them because they have come from a Govt. undertaking but avoids them like plague. I can give many examples. I would love MBDA, BEA, Raytheon to establish JV in Bharat. Boeing & Lockheed Martin are already there. If the Govt. undertakings have great products let them compete with these MNCs for business. Our soldiers deserve the best their lives are precious.

This of criminal negligence. Why Indian programs are sacrificed at the altar of affordability? Tapas deserves more backing and DRDO HALE program also deserves backing. We don’t want to allocate first world budget but still expect first world products.
What sacrifice? If anything it’s the armed forces who have been sacrificing capabilities while PSUs keep toying with major drone programs with their delays and incompetence 🙄

Adani in partnership with Elbit is trying to kill certain indigenous projects for so he could manufacture Israeli hardware for the armed forces. He is also pressurising the govt to delay induction of ATAGS howitzer so he could manufacture and sell ATHOS to the Indian Army. A lot of politics is going on. I expect more DRDO projects getting shelved if this trend continues.

It's s good decision. DRDO has been testing their UAV for a decade but not much is happening nor the forces are happy with Tapas or Rustam.

Nope please no, please noooooo. Do you guys even know how many crashes does a development vehicle does ? We are quite lucky that we arnt facing these many crashes in our projects (reason maybe be due to good development of these projects by DRDO), but on average there are many incidents that took place during the development and even after the development.
For example the MQ9 reaper drone crashed for over 50 times from its induction back in the 2001, and that doesn't include the development trails incidents. There are many others too, but I can't remember them as of now. The point is, just a single crash doesn't make a vehicle useless. TAPAS is the first stage for actual drone development and manufacturing in india, if this thing gets blocked then the drone ecosystem will be dragged down to another decade.
Though it's not good to believe unless a official reports comes in. But I do think that IAF will by heron, but will also buy TAPAS. But let's wait for the official report.

Because no country will allow there defence technologies to fall into someone else's hands.
Companies from one country can manufactutre theirbproducts in other countries, or may be invest in other countriesbdefense companies. but they will never develop weapons in other countries
We can make a deal with general atomics but you won't get stats like MQ-9 Series drones they will give underclocked versions of that. But that will give us technological expertise and in future we can make ours too.

DRDO was unable to control TAPAS beyond line of sight . Crash was not the reason , tapas was scraped even before.

Few accidents or crashes of a system under development is not at all a bad thing at all .
The bad thing , in my view , is how late it will be in years before it gets operational for armed forces.
So for a stop-gap measure by the hermis drone & quickly find the causes of the crashes of tapas drone .
Indigenous system should be given much more priority than foreign systems especially if those systems are not all complicated to design & manufacture inhouse in India !
My question is What would happen if Some day Israelis get fully engaged in a really large scale war with arab neighbours ( hypothetical situation) & at the same time we need these new drones more in number as some got crashed or got shotdown ? ( already IAF is in trouble because of Ukraine-russian war & spares for Su-30 systems are getting difficult to arrange as Russians are busy diverting the supplies to Russian airforce same thing for Indian Army's huge T series tanks )
Funny thing : If our Govt. had been the sponcer for lets say Saab Grippen & for a moment presume "saab" was a indian company .
Then after just 2 crashes of grippen our govt , i can certainly say , would have closed the fighter jet program 😅 .

Sir, I know that our defence forces doesn't reveal exact data regarding number of missiles and rocket launchers in service. But can you make a video about estimated numbers of all missiles and rocket launchers already inducted and operational in indian defence forces.

Every own-built weapon grows through evolution. China, Turkey, Iran, Israel etc. could have just purchased US or Russian weapons but they showed patience and are building their own even if the first versions were not very good.
No wonder for the first 65 years we hardly built anything except some missiles because pimps could not sell long range foreign missiles to us due to MTCR. But we still bought short range Smerch, A2A, ATCGa, Milan etc.

Any aspersion of the deal without condemning teh poor performance of the ADE is just bias. Started in 2009 teh TAPAS should have been ready for trials by 2012 LATEST. Now 11 years later if teh customer goes in for this dela what can you say?
If tapas is cost effective and provides almost similar capabilities as Hermes then army should go with it.
Hermes is cheaper and can fly higher than Tapas.

A lot of products begin their life on the assembly line, slowly their component are sourced through vendor development. This increases the indigenous content & in a few years a lot of components & subassemblies are manufactured in Bharat. That's one way to develop a succesful product at volume, speed & requisite quality. This will fulfill the needs of the country.
DRDO starts everything from scratch, takes a lot of time, comes up with sub-standard products. What is the result? The military tests them because they have come from a Govt. undertaking but avoids them like plague. I can give many examples.
I would love MBDA, BEA, Raytheon to establish JV in Bharat. Boeing & Lockheed Martin are already there. If the Govt. undertakings have great products let them compete with these MNCs for business. Our soldiers deserve the best their lives are precious.
