By far one of the most underrated players in the NBA
its funny how public perception of Monta has changed so much since he joined the Mavs. what most dont realize is Monta has never been a selfish player. he has always been an extremely willing passer and near the top of the league in assists amongst 2 guards every season
he did take a lot of shots on the Warriors and Bucks bc those teams had almost no offensive help for him. w/ the W's Curry was injured constantly- missed a lot of games and was on a bad ankle when he did play. on the Bucks the only other option was Brandon Jennings. neither team had much of an offensive system either; it was give the ball to Monta and get out of the way. Monta was forced to take low percentage shots too often to bail his team out. I'm just glad to see this guy get his due and playing for a very good coach

THEY BETTER PUT THIS GUY ON THE ALL STAR TEAM THIS YEAR. IF THERES NO ROOM ON THE WEST PUT HIM ON THE EAST THEN. its about damn time this guy gets an all star appearance.

I hope he stays a mav for the rest of his career. It's a stable place for his career and he'll still be in his prime for 4 seasons or more. And I also hope he makes the all star team at least once. Best player in this league to not have been named an all star.

Some of those passes at the end of this video were amazing. I did not think this guy would fit so perfect with dirk and co.. Just wow.
he's the best player on their team, i know people will start hollering Dirk, but even Dirk passes up shots to find Ellis
He not selfish anymore is he. He playing within the team concept.
Dirk still leads the team in scoring and PER... Ellis is clearly the 2nd best player on the team, which isn't a bad thing when you're playing with Dirk. Dirk opens up the floor for Ellis; which is a huge reason why Monta is having one of his best seasons.
If he stays he'll definitely be the centerpiece now that dirk is getting old. But monta isn't ridiculously young or anything so the rebuild might be in the near future

Between watching this and part 2, I've found Monta is a lot stronger than he looks and much stronger than I previously thought. Lots of contact finishes. So much of his game is about speed, it's easy to overlook the strength he uses to get separation on his shots

idc what people say but as of now ellis should be mip he has drastically gotten better making wiser decisions when shooting the ball and is showing off a great court vision and is playing d. Playing with dirk and coach rick and the dallas organization has really made ellis into a player we love and wanted to see.

Ellis has turned himself into a very good NBA combo guard. Should've been an All-Star a couple seasons back for Golden State, but got snuffed again like before. I'm not sure the Mavs are where he should be because that team as it's currently constructed is pretty much on its last legs and in serious need of a roster makeover. OKC would've been a better fit for him, especially after Harden left to sign with Houston.
The reason harden left OKC was because he didn't want to be a role player anymore, which is why Ellis went to dallas rather than a team like OKC. In OKC he would have probably been their third best option whereas he's the mavs second best player behind dirk which leads to more touches.
Also "in serious need of a roster makeover" you say? They're currently in 7th place and only 7.5 games behind OKC. Plus they just beat you Sunday night! And please don't make excuses saying Westbrook wasn't in because y'all have a better record without Westbrook in the game this season.

Monta is a beast. Replace Calderon with Jameer Nelson and Marion with Parsons on those highlights, we're going to be extremely dangerous!
Calderon is way better than Jameer unfortunately. And Marion was a good piece. Glad to have Parsons tho
Calderon is a better shooter. But their assist #s are comparable, I believe Jameer actually had him beat last season. Plus Jameer will defend much better and take it to the rack more often.
Jeremiah Morris it's weird to compare assists when the Mavericks have a good ball moving system, and Ellis brings the ball up too. ill take your word about the defense because Calderon wasn't great on that side for sure
JSRLord26 I see your point. And lol yea it wouldn't take much for Jameer to be better defensively. I'm excited for this season tho. Our team is much better top to bottom.
Obviously I could go on about this all day but the biggest thing is having Parsons in the corner now instead of Marion. Monta and Dirk pick and roll will be that much more lethal.
hes an excellent passer for the 2 guard spot.
most of his passes are a drive in and a kick out.
or a over head/hard to intercept pass to trailers.
if he was on a team with a little more athleticism i think we could see his assists rise as he incorporates working with cutters and slashers.
that being said, having superstar caliber teamates like dirk as well as exceptional coaching by rick makes the Mavs a good fit for Monta. And for now, even if he isnt a title contender i wouldnt want him anywhere else.
what we REALLY need is athletic defenders(not necessarily scorers) who can stay infront of athletic guards, and a real starting center that can keep opposing centers from having career highs against us. other than that: we have the vet leadership, we have the talent, dirk is still a beast! once we have those other bases covered we will be a real threat. And with the cap room we will have this summer im not too worried about Cuban getting it done.
What's a slasher

a player that specializes in breaking down a defender with dribbling moves and foot speed, which creates easy pass opportunities, open shots, etc. monta is a PRIME example of a slasher.
If Monta starts hitting 3's consistently he will be even scarier on offense. Hopefully this off season he puts in the work to get better. He will turn 29 before the season starts! So many more years hopefully in a Mavs uniform! He could be the one Dirk passes the reigns to in Big D as the Franchise player! LETS GO MAVS!

I feel like the mavs are going to be a great team next season. Ellis and Dirk will be a good combo. Its like kobe and shaq in a different way. Ellis just needs to be wiser, he already has the talent he just doesn't know how to use'em
With Chandler in that would definitely help their defense and not have to score so much with pressure, we know Dallas gives up leads easily. He may be old, but his presence helps the team with morale and toughness as well as still able to defend the rim.

When Dallas signed Ellis, I was weary of this signing. While Ellis is good, he can be ineffiicient. Although, he has been an efficient scorer this year, plus he leads the team in assists. He's so much better than OJ Mayo.
What if the mavs aquired goran dragic? They could do the thing thay dragic and bledsoe have on the suns right now, and the mavs could use a better pg right now
