Leafs still have gaping holes on LW, and need a better 3C, but the moves on the D core should improve it. Trades are tough to make, but would think Leafs have to figure out something up front. I have little faith that Robertson will amount to anything. Maybe it is a write off year, see what happens.
For playoffs - JT & Mitch’s struggles & roles have to be resolved - if the Leafs ever want to even hope for a playoff run. 😀

anyone who thinks their taking a step back is an idiot. The defense, coaching, and goal tending are all better than last year. They cut dead weight like Bertuzzi who wasn’t good in playoffs, they got a solid blue line and they’ve got a chance at solid goal tending. settle down
Talking heads refuse to give Leafs credit for the moves they made. I think they have a very good chance to win the SC. I don't see why not.
The Core 4 guarantees a 100+ point regular season - so no step backward.
That doesn't matter.. the only thing that matters is the playoffs.. where those 100+ points turn into 4 points and locker clean out interviews
Everyone is expecting the Leafs will make the playoffs but I doubt it because 1. If you study carefully Devils and Red wings Washington will make the playoffs if lost only Leafs 5 more game than last season they will miss the playoffs 2. New coach new system won’t equal to better or same results , the forward group won’t match the play of new coach 3. Wall will definitely get hurt it had been the last few years won’t see any different with a grown up man body build 4, if Their highest off season signings RD Chris T got hurt their D will be similar as last season

Ask yourself these questions. are we better off with Tavares and an 11 million dollar cap hit or is it better to have no Tavares and 11 million to spend? Same question applies to Marner except the dollare are different. Good trades may not exist. 19 million to spend is like 4 players at 5 million each.

Great job guys. As a lifelong leafs martyr I don't think that we are going to be much better than we were last year, this team was built in the complete opposite way a team should be built. All of the cup winners in history have had the same 3 ingredients: all world goaltending, at least 1 superstar dman and 2 superstar forwards. The Leafs have 4 guys that have consistently underachieved when it counts the most. All forwards. Rielly would be a 2nd pair dman on all the good teams in the league and 3rd pair in certain cases, he's not a 1st pair and yet we consider him our best, he's never been nominated for a norris. Realize that in a 100 year history, the Leafs have had 6 nominations for best dman, we've never had a superstar dman in our entire history. Ever.

Man... What are these titles? Has news dried up so much that we think this team is going to take a step back? What exactly does that mean? Not making the playoffs? Cause the leafs haven't really taken any steps forward either. If you ask me, hell no. They've upgraded the blue line significantly, and there isn't much wrong with the existing forward group. Yall will cry and complain that they don't put up points in the playoffs, but from what sample size? They've beeen first round exits for years. There's no data to even draw that assumption from.

This year is simple for the Leafs. Wait out both Marner and Taveras. Marner : No chance to resign long term at 12.5 here. If you want to play 20min/game to showcase your talent for a future team, then give us trade options, else you play 4th line minutes all year. Who will sign a 50 point guy to 7 years at 12.5? Taveras : Thanks for your contributions, we'll take you back at Giordano money, else uproot your family for more money in a God forsaken hockey desert down south. Result is 22 million in cap space next year to outbid any team for top dog free agents. A true cup contender in 2 years. Tribbles hands were tied when he got here with four 10+ mill contracts on the books, not after next year if he plays the wait game.
