Three days into free agency and the NHL off-season and the media is already complaining about what Leafs management hasn't done.
It's Jonas, dude complains about anything and everything the leafs do.
I used to be a leaf fan. I could care less about this useless, degenerate organization. They’re a disgrace. I’m surprised people still even care. Besides, NHL is a 2nd tier sport. No one cares in general other than about 7-8 provinces.

Berube has a TALL order in front of him! It's WAY more than just the roster. It's a mind-set, a mentality, a residual of a past where figure skaters, poke-checkers, unfinished assignments that allow the opposition time and space, and chute sliders define this club. It's SO bad! Making the play-offs is not a goal...it's a given. We need to get past the first round +. That's a goal! We need to build a team for a Cup run, not a run to the pro shop.

And in that regard, Berube fits the bill perfectly. That's the kind of thinking that he brought to St. Louis, when he brought the team from the bottom of the league in December to a Stanley Cup winner. I think he can do great here, and I think he has the patience and the backbone and cred to deliver and see his expectations through in a way that Keefe, fresh out of the minors, was simply unable to do (nice guy, but should have been switched out years ago).
I also wouldn't mind if Berube does something to shield his players from the media and fans more, so that they focus seriously on each other and on the game, as Paul Maurice did with Florida, thereby creating a beautiful harmony between the players who were ready to run through a wall for their teammates. I get the pressure from fans; I feel it myself. But I'd trade all of that access to players for one Cup win.
So much negativity but the leafs made positive moves, defence has been a huge problem and they’ve taken steps to fix that with new players and coaches. Making huge changes could easily put them out of the playoffs. Bigger changes can happen with Tavares off the books next year. Treliving has done a good job given the circumstances

Woll has started 4 playoff games. All of them elimination games. He has won 3 of them and lost the other in overtime. He has nothing to prove other than staying healthy. Great signing by tre

You know Berube is taking the season to determine the marner decision right? Unless they get something impossible to ignore that marner agrees to, they aren't trading a superstar for cap space when they didn't have free agents available they wanted. We have two members of the 4 and 22 million dollars coming off in a year.
Tavares might be kept for less than 3 since they won't pay him more than Stamkos unless it's 3.5 to be captain. And berube is going to see if he can turn marner into a killer. If not he's going to use the 7.5 to 8 from tavares and 11 from mitch to fill holes that prospects don't by next year.
@@LemonsGraphicsthey're not going to bench him. He is a superstar and plays too well during the regular season. Powerplay and penalty kill and he can put up a shitload of points in a season. I agree that he didn't have a great playoff this year, but none of them did. But at least he played every game while he was still rehabbing his ankle. He didn't sit for a couple like Nylander and miss a couple like Matthews. You can't blame one player for the failures of a whole team.
@@AlexdenommeI think Marner was making 7.5 this year cuz some of that contract was front loaded. But either way there is that money coming off. If they don't resign Marner and decide to trade him,he'll go to a team that will pay him 12 mil. Also, I think Tavares is going to take a lot less because he wants to retire a leaf and he will keep his captaincy
My crystal ball tells me Marner signs before Playoffs, it will trigger the haters but they are smart enough to know that he is not replaceable and you already have him.
Before people start crying about our signings, let me remind you of our d core to start the season last year it was Reily-klingburg Brodie-McCabe and giordano-Lilly - our defence is a lot better than last year. But I do agree we need a top 6 forward for scoring depth and a 3rd line centre. Unfortunately we don’t have the cap for a top 6 forward so a new 3rd line centre is most likely the last move we will make unless Ofc marner is traded (but I don’t think that happens)
The coaches both ontario teams hired this offseason is perfectly symbolic of their respective franchises.
There is no way Mitch lasts the season as a Leaf. Shanahan and Brad know they have to take their lumps this year and lose Marner most likely without full value in return and then get JT on a Leafs friendly salary next season. If 2024/25 plays out as another "run it back", Leafs Nation will not be nice about it.

Leafs top forwards DO NOT go to the blue paint when it counts. That's a key to getting some playoff goals.

Only thing popping up was when Babcock was here (despite what he's done), he was hard on Mitch for not being disciplined enough and he shuts down when the pressure was on. We all ran to Mitch's defence about being a rookie, etc but I also read that Mitch's dad was a douche to him growing up, which explains why Mitch can't handle the pressure. Wondering if Berube got a different approach when holding them accountable
who is this Siegal guy and why should anyone listen to his opinion ? These guys are way too young to understand the difference a coach can make (viz. Pat Burns in '92)

OEL is a big gamble. Tanev was a great get however you'll be let down big time with OEL. Just look at his seasons with Arizona and Vancouver. He did a lot of floating around not really much involved in the play. Just there for the cheque.

Berube has to determine who is up for the mindset for the playoffs. It’s a totally different animal. You can literally see this Leafs team doesn’t have it. Even with new additions. It’s not going to work. They have no dawgs.

Hey i am a big Berube fan. Loved him as a player and respect his hockey knowledge and coaching skills.
I would hire him in a heartbeat.
Not for the Leafs though.

Austin Mathews does not have the heart to lead this team to the cup. Blame Marner all you want, the highest paid guy who the team is built around is Mathews who has 23 goals 25 assists for 48 points in 55 playoff games. Those numbers speak volumes.

NMC's and NTC's mean nothing. A Player will waive them if it is in his interests to do so.
