I've never seen your videos before, this just popped up in my recommendations. I'm commenting in the hopes you get an algorithm boost because this was a really thoughtful discussion that I think more people (artists or otherwise) could benefit from seeing
That's really neat that you made a plushie that sold for that much! Congrats! Also, very interesting to see this perspective on artistry and financial success.
YOOOO!!!! That is a HUGE WIN to reflect-on! Doesn't have to be a "do it again" benchmark. That's a GREAT "I DID THAT!" experience! Big ups! And I think there is something in the conversation to be said about how art and artists are devalued by the shallow understandings/experiences of the public... Sadly, the knowledge and skill that CAN'T be duplicated at highest margin is often dissuaded (if by nothing more than costs and return), DESPITE the liberty and confidence at that skill level being the SOURCE of creativity... Art on the leash of Business... Does my head in a bit, but hearing stories like this from other makers MAKING IT HAPPEN gives light and hope! Right back around to ya! They didn't make that viral plushie a reality in some ultra-funded, max-efficiency factory...YOU DID! Blessings!
I went to school for art but I never made a career out of it because the feast and famine lifestyle is too stressful for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it! It's really cool that you were able to sell a plush for that much but it's definitely a lot of work & luck to keep that up!
