This is probably the most convincing proposition from Google for any product/platform in a long time and if this does all come together how it's being proposed, it does have the potential to truly change personal computing in the biggest way since the smartphone.
@devsda1 I would have said that in years past too but I think a device like this is too attached for Google's vision (no pun intended) for where they see personal computing heading, having Gemini literally at your fingertips in your day to day life where you can speak to it as you're going about your day is how it should be. If I have to always think about scenarios where I can bring up Gemini to help me in one thing or another, in most of those scenarios I forget it's even available to help and I just do it myself but if it can offer legitimate use-cases where it can save me time doing a task then I am all for allowing it to do that. Also the ability to not have to pull my phone out when I'm out and about especially in a new area where I don't know the surroundings and it can overlay info in the glasses lenses just like me using Live View directions in Google Maps, I'll take that any day. Vacationing this Summer in Spain but this can apply in most European countries, I couldn't tell you how helpful using the Live View directions in Google Maps was. To have that in a set of glasses so I can walk normally not having to point my phone around would be pretty amazing.
TBH I can see why: Google wants to be in the driving seat of non-AOSP Android, and Meta's XR division was derived from the company Oculus which has existed over a decade and has no reason to suddenly have Google come in and tell it what it can and can't do.
@@David-ig4ig Zuck has his own AOSP fork with years of advancements in UI/UX, millions of devices, a rich app library and most importantly his own Meta Store. No way he would partner just to have the Play Store injected. But still I wish the Android XR well.
With Android XR, everyone is working together to build an ecosystem, and there will be more interesting things in the future. Will reminder apps require users to turn their heads 360 degrees to close them? Will game promotion ads require users to track the game characters running three laps with their eyes before they can be closed? In the future, will app development involve taking the 2D applications from the app store and redoing them in 3D with multi-modal interactions?
Dear Google kindly show the possibilities which can be possible from XR for the next 2 years nd not the next 20 years 🙏. Meta done it in less than 2 years.
This video is so boring! What happened to you Google? You used to be vibrant and now is all Corporate, CEO, HR kind of stuff. This is not a video for UA-cam but for LinkedIn. Give something fun, something we really want to use/wear. Also so far behind, Meta goes wat beyond with Quest version 3, 3! openAI push the AI like never before and Google just tries to catch up.
Cant wait for games. Imagine you are walking down the sidewalk and a creature hides behind trashcans or up on a tree and jumps to you. You could also play hide things and seek around a town, or you could play CODs Prop Hunt but in real life, you have to guess which object is the fake one in a given context. Or it could add some checkpoints and reward you for completing a trekking trail. The options are endless, this is a new whole new market. The more fun you can have with these things, the more it will be adopted by mass population 🤔
A lot of prototype talk as if they're the first people on the block with it. I want to know what you are doing to set a standard, and I want to know what products are coming next year so I can plan a purchase.
I'd say voice/gemini will be a focus with this platform, likely CV will play a bigger part than eye tracking. Devs are still trying to figure eye gestures and it doesn't help the toolsets still aren't overly mature
Now is the right time...because this is as fast as we could slap something together to counter Apple. I still have the first VR product you launched, and abandoned, sitting in a closet.
Google has lost all of its goodwill. Wow cool this looks so neat but give it two years and your developers will get bored and want to start something else. If you kept developing Google Glass instead of abandoning it, imagine how far ahead we would be right now
Not a single piece of innovation shown here never mind any hint or details at some established hardware and constraints to handle this all. An announcement for a neurolinked quantum computing chip supporting a tamed sentient AI assistant with google immortality medical support built in would be a vision, this video is highly unimpressive other than an admisson that apple is going the right way in googles point of view. Did Marques really say feel free to use my face to promote this?
I'm personally not into the small glasses form factor. I want the thick brick with as many censors and as much computing as possible with the technology available at the moment.
So when is this being discontinued?
🤣
Good question
Hahaha, the first question we need to answer for sure
No this will be the next Android Wear, sorry Wear OS. They'll give up on it in even years and relaunch it in odd years.
😂😂😂

It will probably be part of the Google Graveyard after 2 - 3 years

You can't be serious. I do sincerely hope they succeed, but they haven't really showed anything yet.
It was already last week
Why should it change it more the world as Apple Vision?
Good. Meta needs strong competition.
They're already cheap without competition.
But, how do you plan to put ads on that? Tell us more.
I'm imagining virtual billboard style ads popping up while you're walking about and stuff, to the point you see them when you close your eyes at night
hope for a historic step forward in technology between Samsung, Google and Qualcomm😀next year
2:42 build together... but without Meta

@@patryk11258 years of advancement in ui/ux made me laugh, they have the worst of "em lol
This is best for the industry. Hopefully they'll end up rewriting their OS to work on top of Android XR, fix their UX issues and everyone grows.
Is the Vision Pro?
So amazing! Congratz on the launch and can't wait to get our hands on the Samsung X Google Headset on hand to try out and create more content on it!
Nice 👍🏿👊🏿
2:37 I remember my Lecturer saying this fact
"If you want to move fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go together with people".
Slap Apple in face😂

Who remembers Google Daydream? 🤔🥀
"I was there, when the courage of man failed . . ."
It's in the name. A Dream
"Alone you can go fast but together you can go far" I like that!

Android XR ... Woah I Was Waiting For This!
Good news for Android Developers! 🤩🤩🤩
That's really cool. What a time to be alive.
Great! Can’t wait to have a UA-cam app on VisionOS 2years after this is released while you guys continue to fight everyone else trying to build one:D
Did they record this with a potato?
Xr is the most exciting technology coming in the future
Sounds like a dream.... a Daydream

How can I start to design for Andorid XR? I'm making a bachelor's degree thesis on VR and I'm an android big fan

i just want a good desktop mode like samsung dex on pixel
Wow didn't see that coming!
Wow, looking forward !
Un sistema Android XR muy completo
so basically copy apples vision pro homework, right 🤔
Hmm, im guessing 2027 discontined. Really excited for it though!
other important companies on it stop being corny
So they copied a bunch from the Vision Pro; hopefully Apple copies a ton from here. The Gemini integration is pretty cool!
Alone you can go faster... Together we can go farther..
All Microsoft had to do was just stay in place with consistency. But no they had to shut things down for Hololens.
A new product line that will bridge the gap with Apple vision pro lead.
Where are your goggles Google?
Liked the video at first when they showed the previews and immediately disliked it when they mentioned partnering with Samsung.
