Primus are also not weird. They have a really goofy sense of humor, and their music is not mainstream, but they’re not into open bizarreness the way many other bands are.

I'll always remember listening to a concert promo on the radio around 20 years ago that announced (in order) "Butthole Surfers" and "Flaming Lips". I almost drove off the road, I was laughing so hard.
Butthole Surfers is an amazing band.

All their albums are. White Pepper, Quebec, Shinola, The Pod are amazing albums
Thanks for promoting Magma, Loudwire! I may pride myself on preferring niche music, but I sometimes wish at least one of Magma's songs would surpass a million views like the rest of the bands on this list. If anyone reading this is unfamiliar, then I'd recommend their album "Attahk". Few would regard it as the most definitive Magma album, but it's the one that got me interested.
If SOAD and Primus were weird enough to be on here, then I think Devo and Talking Heads should have been too

Yeah Devo's stuff before 1978 is really out there. But a lot of their stuff during their heyday is great too.
I sang SOAD's Sugar at karaoke once. Let's just say it was one of the highlights of the night at that bar.

The Shaggs, definitely. Despite being completely musically incompetent they still had/have legions of fans, including Frank Zappa and Kurt Cobain. They even still play shows on occasion.
I thought Captain Beefheart was also Frank Zappa.

Listening to Mr. Bungle for the first time was both very confusing and magical. Ever since I’ve never looked back. Cant even imagine recommending them to my friends. They just wouldn’t get it. One my of favorite bands ever.

Primus tires to popularize some of their ideas (it is very clear). and Zappa.. I prefer The Residents and Capitan beefheart to him.

If you’re gonna listen to Ween, start with “Quebec” or “The Mollusk” (the album with “Ocean Man” on it). Work your way backwards through their discography, as they were weirder and more experimental closer to the beginning of their career.

Everything is weird about them man. I don't think they would have ended up so successful without the weird guitar parts and the weird high vocals. Their debut is the perfect example

The language they created is their gimmick. Other than that, they’re a pretty solid prog rock band with fourteen concept albums under their belt.
Zappa, System, Primus, Bungle and Ween have been absolute favorites of mine for decades, but I never would’ve described my taste in music as „weird“.. It‘s just original stuff, isn’t it?
