Over the last couple of months, by chance, my wife and I watched these Tom Hanks films: Apollo 13, Sully, A Man Called Otto, Cast Away, and finally Forrest Gump. It was a good ride.
Nice, I've also watched (almost) all of these multiple times, except for the Otto one, that one I haven't watched yet - but all the other ones, those are all great movies, timeless masterpieces and true evergreens. Saving Private Ryan and News of the World were also absolutely phenomenal.
This is a true genius move. Director had true belief in his vision and had the trust of his main actor. Together they invested into their dream and reaped massive benefits. Awesome
And it turned out to be one of the most memorable scenes of a movie packed with memorable and iconic scenes. So the suits were wrong. AGAIN. Who would have thought? LOL😂
It's a good thing they chose to film the running montage for "Forrest Gump". It was one of the best parts of the movie. I always wondered, however, where Forrest slept on the run when he was tired. Did he just curl up on the side of the road? Did he sleep in motels?
Is this how it runs in TV in the US? 3 minute segments and then ads again? How long to they run? And let me guess, you have to pay some provider to see all those ads, right?
I stopped watching linear TV nearly 25 years ago. 🤷♂️ Movies/shows on DVDs, sure, but not this ad infested crap on US Cable, where it takes a whole afternoon to watch 1 feature movie - and you have 100-200 channels, but not much interesting content to watch. 😑😅 Once Internet became fast enough for streaming... (or downloading) I am glad to have left murica to a more enlightened part of the world, and less ads/consume culture 😊🇪🇺
Without the running scene, "Forrest Gump" would be just another heartfelt 90's film. It's here, and the Washington DC scene, where Forrest connects with people. Again, it wouldn't be cinematic history without those scenes.
The famous lighthouse was at Marshall Point, Maine. The museum there has an entire photo album dedicated to the Forrest Gump filming, and many people visit because of the film. Whatever would they have done if that wonderful sequence had been cut?
The wild thing is that the author of the book/screenplay made no money because of an infamous case of Hollywood accounting that portrayed Forrest Gump as unprofitable. I am too much of laymen to know how points on the backend are different from whatever deal the author had.
Some of those stories are insane. John Cusack said recently that he is supposed to get a percentage of profits for Say Anything. The only problem is thanks to Hollywood accounting, the movie that came out in 1989 somehow posts a $10M loss EVERY year.
My whole cross country team in high school loved that movie because of that scene! We’d watch it to psyche ourselves up for a meet or long bout of ‘practice’.
Percentage points of the profits. So for example, if Tom Hanks deal with the studios was that he got "10 points on the back end", that means he received 10% of however much money the movie made at the box office. And, as we all know, Forest Gump was a huge, huge hit. So his and Zemeckis' deal to pay for that sequence themselves in exchange for points on the back end cost the studio millions & millions of dollars...that all went into Tom Hanks' & Robert Zemeckis' pocket.
The best change you can get in this election is to vote for Harris. The best overall, however, is to convince enough Americans to STOP voting for EITHER party and start voting for OTHER political parties altogether. But what do I know, I'm only a European with a bunch of University points
@@PhontonIt's not just campaign finance, but getting rid of the electoral college would be a start--there is a nat'l compact currently out for that. Fighting gerrymandering is another, which is being worked on by a nonpartisan group. And lastly, adopting ranked voting, which certain local elections are adopting...though ranked voting means nothing if the electoral college remains in existence

Did you miss his short indie documentary, "I got locked in my panic room by accident for the weekend"?

@@florete2310 Absolutely! Tom Hanks rarely disappoints.
A Man Called Otto is the best, the only film I had ever watched in different years and still enjoyed.
By chance lol

Cha ching! I'm old enough to remember hearing that sound from a cash register!💰

Probably everything just sort of worked out ... just like it did in the rest of the movie.
And from then on the cheques keep COMING UH!

I ADORE Tom Hanks!!!
I hope they take the back-end difference out of that studio executives salary for the rest of their life.
Good morning stephen colbert fans
This is Part 2! Like to help a friend.❤
Yeah, I'll stay.
I came for the beheadment - I stayed for yet another great interview, where an absolute icon interviews another incredible icon.
My whole cross country team in high school loved that movie because of that scene! We’d watch it to psyche ourselves up for a meet or long bout of ‘practice’.
How is he still cute.
And now that entire scene could be generated by AI in a couple of minutes lol.
But helluva good investment getting it back in points.
which is why modern movies suck ass. things should be filmed on location as much as possible
I sent a letter to Tom once. I included the first draft of National Standard of Waste. I wonder if he got it
poor Steven couldn't get a word in edgewise! 🤣
part 2 of 3
Points on the back end!!!! Cha Ching
What are points on the back end?

I love how Tom is low-key pointing out how much the Colbert band is lacking. This show has the most awkward band ever. And it isn't the band's fault.
Sheriff Woody Pride 🤠David S. Pumpkins🎃
Forrest Alexander Gump🪶
(Wilson 🏐)😉
the real movie economics is screwing over the author of the novel. acting like the movie was a financial loss after promising him profit participation
Castaway ❤❤
STOP 🛑This is the second segment of the interview...
How freaking hard would it be for you incompetent jokers to number the segments when you split up an interview?
Lucky you could afford to do that in the first place.
2:33 ... hope they got a refund
Woody!
so, don't run forest, don't run ?? who is the idiot who wanted to cut that scene ? is he the son of the guy who refused to sign the beatles ?
Trump 2024
The band can't even provide or add to the show.
The reviews for this film say it is a boring flop
Yea no you’re a political bot and/or lying.
This has nothing to do with the video and pointless political solicitation. Go away.
I used to be a middle class Democrat... Now I'm a poor Democrat... The Inflation, Drugs, Illegals, WOKE and Two Wars I'm done and voting for change!

@@Phonton The problem is that won't happen without a constitutional amendment for campaign finance reform. Citizens United must be overturned.
@@davidt3956 I guess that's true... Very well, the Americans have some work to do then
