GETCHA BELT ON Part 4: Anchoring

  • We're still diving down the rabbit hole exploring the puzzle pieces that add up to a freer, fuller, fiercer belt and this video is about anchoring.
    In order to take the strain and vocal load from the little muscles in our throat and neck, we need to be "active" in other ways.

    There are times in certain songs when I inhale so strongly and quickly that I achieve what I can best describe as feeling of uncoupling. Where the lower core is strongly engaged but up top I am free. I learned this technique to be able to sing songs that require a lot of punch and short spurts of intensity or backing off intensity. Two songs that come to mind where I employ this technique are Foreigner's "Urgent" or Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally." They are physically demanding songs.
