Thank you so much Jade - as our channel grows, we’re finding that maintaining an offline life as well is essential for mental health and not going insane haha!
Wow!! First of all, a big congratulations from both of us (Ran-day & Captain Q)!! What an amazing surprise you managed to pull off under extreme conditions.... you win bonus points for the degree of difficulty in finding/buying/transporting a boat during COVID. Secondly, what a fantastic design!! We were just riding a ferry in Maine watching the video together (on an iPhone) and having a little chat about the things we love about your new home - Ran-day loves the extended bowsprit and can attest to the magic that can be had sitting out there(it's worth the extra dockage fees!), the Captain loves the classic square cabin top("the ultimate classic look"), the lovely transom, high coaming, and wide side decks..... so much to love!! Lastly, thank you very much for the shout-out... it's very kind of you to share our channel with your audience.... and with 100k+ well-deserved subscribers, you have set a gold standard for us to try to follow. Now.... about that Vindö ....😄
I may never have met either of you but I cannot think of two people I have been more happy for! Each morning when you come out say hi to the worlds most fortunate boat, it will be loved, restored with care and pride, then set free to roam the planet as it was intended. If there ever was a win win situation I think we have stumbled across it😀
“Old World, Gorgeous Elegance” That has been one of the driving reasons that I watch every second of your videos and support you as well !!!! Congratulations ! I look forward to every single teak scrape and upgrade.

You don’t have to do things as Other channels how you choose the boat.you choose anything the way you do because cover your needle. Also, thanks for expose your personal lifestyle to us. You did not do wrong thing, You choose when and how to show your lifestyle. Thank your, no apologies need it.
No apology necessary! You totally made the right call keeping it quiet and indulging us with your European sailing. I'm glad you had that piece of privacy on your buying journey. How nice that it didn't leak out from any Patreons - good folk. You're making me appreciate my bronze portlights anew! Best of luck with the boat transformation - remember to enjoy the moments, even while you look forward to getting it all done. When you're old hoary sailors looking back on lives well-lived, I bet this will be a treasured time. Godspeed to you both, and to Magic Carpet II.
You have a lovely boat! We bought a Cape George 36 after falling in love with her lines and beauty. We refurbished her and then have been sailing her in the NE US, Canada and the Mediterranean. She’s a great sailor in heavy weather and also goes very well in light winds despite her displacement. One suggestion is to check the chainplates carefully - the bulkhead mount is a weak spot in Cape George sailboats. We ended up replacing them with chainplates that went down the outside of the hull on the sides and stern, bolted thru the hull both above and below the deck. That kept the decks clear and also made for stronger and more accessible attachment points for the stays. Anyway it’s great to see you enjoying your new sailboat - have fun.
Hi Mary, I just enlarged my rear stay chainplate on my CG36. We’re your chainplates like the ones in the video or were they all 3 attached together with 1/4 SS plate?
@@svpearlsailacapegeorgesail4758 I think the original backstay chainplate was a u- shaped ss piece that went around the opening in the bulwark for the tiller. A previous owner abandoned this system and made two chainplates bolted thru the aft bulwark a few inches in from the port and starboard corners. He also made a split backstay. His new chainplates did not work well and the stern toe rail was cracked, the stern itself was a bit distorted, and there was some rot in the wood bulwark in the corners of the stern. We had longer chainplates made, which were reinforced with a spine, and made so they could be bolted through both the bulwark and the fiberglas stern below the deck. We also beefed up the fiberglass stern to provide a solid backup for the chainplates. Then Karl replaced the damaged wood in the bulwark and also made a new teak toe rail for the stern section. The boat had three individual plates bolted though the port and starboard bulwarks for the side stays when we bought her. We replaced them with three much longer side stays installed on the outside of the hull that were thru bolted through the hull and bulwark and extending below the deck where they were fastened thru the hull with added reinforcement inside. How did you enlarge the rear chainplate? I can send you photos if you’re interested but don’t know how to do that on You tube.
Mr Shipwright always looks so happy rebuilding boats, between the awesome beauty of the boat, and the project it's going to be, he is going to be so happy for the next 3-6 months :)
This looks like a boat that Captain Q would spotlight on his channel. That bowsprit will be spectacular once it's refinished, as will the rest of the boat.
Our Cape George look just like yours only a little smaller. Same interior in many ways, same port lights, which is necessary for ventilation. Our friends had the 36, like yours. Have fun, excited for you.!
Hi Mary, I have a CGC 36 which I’ve finished. I have 2 friends that have CGC 31’s. It would be fun to have a place we could all share experiences together!

Excellent choice on maintaining your story line and there is no need to apologize for not documenting the purchase. I am really excited to see this boat rebuild from start. I am an industrial mechanic and have a chance to rebuilt equipment, tools and machinery but this is so similar and yet so totally different. To watch from an apprenticed boat builders perspective will be a real treat!
... the moment you went below... wow !! Yes, she is a real beauty !! Nothing quite like the labour you place your love in while it gently unfolds a story wrapped in grace
Alidino, Maya, welcome to the states! Good to see two excellent people here. Enjoy your stay and have a great time! Maya was a kid in a candy store. Alidino, back to work!
WOW! I am so excited for you guys. The CG36 is my dream boat. Would love to hear how you found it because I never saw that boat for sale on the main outlets. Going to really enjoy watching you guys fix it up. I would have been scared of a sight unseen purchase of one, due to the wooden topsides/coach top, but if I had Aladino’s experience I would probably be ok with it. She is a true world-crosser and she will definitely take care of you! PS I wrote this while watching so had to make this edit to say I loved the Pardey reference about the cockpit grate. Ok second edit... thanks for the boat hunting info at the end.
Our boats are like living things. This is a wonderful creature who’s getting a new lease on life from you and I can feel the excitement you have in that labor of love. I can’t even imagine how it will feel when you’re satisfied with that work and the first time the sails are hoisted! Wow and congratulations! ⛵️
Aladino, I believe I got a reasonable explanation for that Sampson post moving upward! It simply jumped of excitement when hearing about its new owners! Imagine how this boat must feel to expect a total make over that will make it nicer than its ever been?! IT IS BEAUTIFUL the way it is, but as MAGIC CARPET II it will be absolutely gorgeous and it fits you guys like a glove! Gosh, we all will be sooo excited to witness its transformation and to picture you guys roaming the seas with it. It is so safely and well built a pure joy to look at! Congratulations to all of you. Now I just hope that MAGIC CARPET 1 finds a well deserved loving and caring new home! Fair winds and thank you for another captivating episode!👍👏👏👏👏👏⛵️😁🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'll bet there's no rotten core around the Sampson post because there is no core around the Sampson post. It's more work to make it solid fiberglass in the areas where there is the likelihood of water getting in but, it's the proper way to do it.
She looks a gorgeous boat which screams stamina. You did the right thing to jump on it an buy her. There will inevitably be some disappointments along the way as you are bound to go over it with a fine comb, but the build quality will surely not pose anything Aladino can't overcome. Well done!
Although I am jealous of you and your new boat, I will give you many "thumbs up" for your great choice, and the happiness it brings you. Also a boat like that deserves new owners like you two, who love the quality, style and craftsmanship they have, and who will work to bring it back to perfection. Well done and congratulations !!

Congratulations on the New boat! I have been a fan Since the 1$ Sailboat video, I am not a Sailor but I appreciate the beauty of older Sail Boats. Looking forward to the restoration process with Aladino leading and teaching the way. The music and and beautiful places you have been and are going to is what makes me look forward to my weekend coffee viewing.
O may God. My children and I are overwhelmed with your discovery of your Cape George 36. We love you both. Your building a dream, a future, and there is nothing better. From Michael, Jason, and Jeremy we will be following you and if possible love to visit and help as needed.
Really beautiful looking boat. I have never sailed in my life but I am suddenly envious. We create our own luck in this life and well done to you two guys.
Your boat is beautiful & so unique. It was a relief to hear you say - multiple times “I love that….” I don’t recall any negatives. Congratulations & I can’t wait to follow your next rebuild journey.
These old boats have a soul. I can almost feel her quivering with the excitement of being loved and cared for!!! Beautiful!!! Really looking forward to seeing your adventure with her! Hope to see you and her in the future... another Canuck offshore sailor! Fair winds and following seas Mike 1971 S&S Swan 40.
True, mine is 25 years older . It is just the design which harkens back to the classic beauties of yore. I am really looking forward to these two bringing her back to her former glory!
You are going to love that Cape George 36! They still build them just up the road from where I live. Cecil Lange set the standards for all the Cape George boats and his standard were high. Those hulls are built to last forever. You will find that the 36 will keep you safe when it blows but it also has surprising performance in light airs. You bought a winner!
She's a lovely looking boat, guys. You did well, I think. And with all the skills necessary to do the work, there's no question that the outcome will be exactly as you want. I'm looking forward to the journey that will be the refit.
Wow you guys… Is this boat you two or what. You could have spent years looking for that very boat and never have found one. Just seeing the bit of kit you have shown us in this video, and I’m sure you’re going to be blown away when you’ve seen more. From what I did see, everything is quality… spent over a lifetime of being in love with his boat. You’ve hit the lottery, congratulations, you deserve it!
I know is a bit late now but it might help others. Renting an ozone-generator and blast it in the boat during nights (when you are not there) will get rid of smells like they where never there. Builders routinely use them when restoring old houses. (and then re-plum the toilet system. There is where all the smells come from. Or why not a separation toilet).
Congratulations on your new boat. It looks all traditional, which is to say "proven" and seaworthy. I think you have done very well with this purchase. So many lovely details.
I'm always impressed at how well you guys present all of your information. You obviously know a lot about sailing vessels, how they are fitted and rigged, etc. I guess we can expect that, since that is your life. But how you can present new material each week, sharing the stories and history of places you visit and your experiences there, in such a clear, intelligent manner, is amazing. It would take me a month to be able to produce a video like that - if I even knew how! Thank you for all the research and hard work you put into making these videos! I'm looking forward to watching you transform this boat into a bigger and better Magic Carpet (II)!
The forward facing circular port-holes are very attractive and functional. They look so much better than oval shaped ones which cannot take the same force of waves sweeping aft on a deck in heavy weather. And Maya's words about this bowsprit are spot on. Apart from allowing extra sail area for the same waterline length, this feature, along with the port-holes and butterfly hatch, adds a timeless and classy touch to a highly attractive yacht. Well chosen!
So happy for you guys. I love how you share the same dream and have such a beautiful vision of the future. I can't wait to see the finished project and to follow the next phase of your life on her. Aladino is such a craftsman that I'm sure she will be even better than new. Best of luck to you both. Love you. Paul
Really enjoyed getting your first reactions. Reminds me of similar experiences buying a new home or piece of land. The joy of discovery, being better than imagined. Your excitement is contagious.
You found a hidden gem, spectacular set of sails and the bones of the boat are A+++. In the boat trade its known as a "sleeper" - a boat that has been lightly used, well kept and stored in a barn or a shed. Best wishes
When I saw the first few seconds of the footage of the saloon and saw the bulkhead with the round opening and the curved roof beams, the words, "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit" came to mind.
Captain Q. and Randay are my favorites. Dinty Moore...I haven't had this stew since the 1980's and bought and ate some last week. Good stuff. Thankyou Magic Carpet and BEAUTIFUL Ship!
You two are a wonderful couple and working together on a long term goal. Magin Carpet ll is a very beautiful boat that I believe will serve you well even in rough seas. Wishing you all the best.
Well done you guys for keeping the secret - and your Patrons. I’m glad you guys do you, unique, entertaining, poetic with a lovely pace. I like the other channels you mention too, but I like the Magic Carpet vibe. Be different, be you. 👍
You guys are so excited by your new Cape George. What fun lies ahead! It's nice to see your feelings about the boat search that wasn't, but that's ok, no apology required here.
It’s awesome to see the love for each other and the whole sailboating adventure with the elegance of the way you edit. Congratulations on a new home, and a new chapter in Sailing Magic Carpet 2.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 100k Subscribers 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Maya, at the end it almost felt like you were apologising for keeping the new boat quiet, I agree with your reasons, but also it's your channel, so never feel like you need to apologise for running it the way you want, you should always do what you feel is right for you and your channel, you obviously have the formula right or you wouldn't have reached 100K subs.
Cecil Lange and his company built some beautiful and well-respected boats - and this one is lucky to have you two for the resurrection. Congrats on your great score! :)
I sailed my CGC 36 to La Paz and spent 2 days with Cecil a couple years ago. He passed last year at 93 (?). I recorded our conversations, he was very interesting guy. Great stories, he built over 300 boats!
With Aladino`s Superb craftsmanship and eye for perfection, and Maya`s creative and artistic style, it is going to look amazing.... Let the next chapter begin... I for one will be watching every video.... Take care Guys and stay safe..... :-)))) xxxx
First thank you for sharing your adventures. Second, I have to say that I just recently found your channel and I started at the beginning binge watching. So now I am at this episode. So, this is a year late, but congratulations on your purchase and I am looking forward to watching you restore this beautiful boat. Also, Maya, your musical products are just amazing. Again, thank you for sharing wonderful talents. 😊😊
I must say I enjoyed the shots of Alideeno(I know I butchered the spelling) looking over the boat. As a craftsman myself it was very easy to recognize the look of a man who's eyes were looking and catching all the good and bad of the coming project. The grinding of gears as you think "Hmm. maybe an issue there" or " Nice. that is much better than I had hoped. " " I know what exactly is going on there." My knowledge is not boats but wood is my medium and it in my opinion has always been easy to see he has a true love of his trade. looking forward to seeing the coming videos.
Those ports on the forward face of the cabin trunk are only secondarily good for looking out. The true magic of them is the ventilation they provide while underway, but more noticeable at anchor. They will exhaust the entire interior incredibly well. Enjoy!
Brilliant.👍 I guess you are going to get lots of questions, probably enough to fill a few Q&A videos, so here are mine. My first question was going to be if you remove the bowsprit will the shed door be ‘close able’. But I saw at 23:30 you had ‘whipped the bowsprit off’ already - so can you close the door? Second - are you going to construct a better access ladder? Third - could you put a smiley mouth at the forward end of the cabin top - at least temporarily?😉 Exciting times.😉😉😉⛵️
Gratuliation zu diesem wunderschönen Boot. Danke, dass Ihr uns an diesem Abenteuer teilhaben lässt. Congratulations on this fantastic and beautiful boat. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. Shalom aus dem Rheinland/from the Cologne Bay. MiRo
Beautiful intro, loving the violin, creating drama in a very sophisticated way. If your head is Raritan, simply go electric, adding the upgrade kit to your present install.
Magic Carpet II will be beautiful? I say she IS beautiful already! What an absolutely gorgeous masterpiece of boatbuilding art!!! And what a lucky coincidence that you three found each other!
What a charming boat , those round portlights look like a face. Hope its all you hoped for . Congratulations...btw Capt Q is a knowledgeable ol duffer.
Cool channel... The right vibe! Love that you don't rush time, news, or updates... The soft and kind aproach to the narration of your story is refreshing and trully delightfull! Congratulations! Greetings from Portugal
I admit I was a little disappointed that you didnt include us in your boat search as I'm looking too and absolutely loved the Atticus buying series and think you both (particularly Aladino from a craftsmanship perspective) would have added a unique dimension to the buying process. But regardless yours adds something that most others don't. Heart and soul.
You gave me Tears of Joy with this episode. She's a true Jewel! A real old style beauty! But the spirit of your hearts for Magic Carpet II is what will breathe and infuse the future beauty she will one day be! Wishing only good things. . . And all the best for you two and Magic Carpet II !
I like how you didn’t feel the need to share everything in real time. It’s good to have some nuggets of joy and excitement you keep for yourselves.

Smashed that "like" button, but in my heart it's a Love button! So happy and excited for you both! 😍
Yes, this is a good suggestion. Ozone machines remove odors really well
Amazon sells them. 89$
Thanks for this great suggestion.
I'm so so happy for your guys. Can't wait to see the restoration transformation. Such a pleasure to watch true artist and craftsmen.
Love you. Paul
What I Love is you playing some nice music on your Violin.
Now following two boat restorations on the Olympic Peninsula and I'm here for it. Excited to watch another transformation. Good luck!!
Really enjoyed getting your first reactions. Reminds me of similar experiences buying a new home or piece of land. The joy of discovery, being better than imagined. Your excitement is contagious.
Definitely a globe sailer. Love the full keel and the lovely wood work. You have the skills. You get a mulligan for the pandemic.
You guys have a perfect workshop to make that boat perfect.
Called “keyhole”
Captain Q. and Randay are my favorites. Dinty Moore...I haven't had this stew since the 1980's and bought and ate some last week. Good stuff. Thankyou Magic Carpet and BEAUTIFUL Ship!
Perhaps the best opening sentence of any video ever posted on YT. And your music!
Beautiful boat. This one suits you. Looking forward to your travel plans.
How nerve-wracking and exciting !!! Its 2:05 am in Adelaide and I'm on the edge of my pillow, anxious that all will go well!!!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 100k Subscribers 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Maya, at the end it almost felt like you were apologising for keeping the new boat quiet, I agree with your reasons, but also it's your channel, so never feel like you need to apologise for running it the way you want, you should always do what you feel is right for you and your channel, you obviously have the formula right or you wouldn't have reached 100K subs.
Looks like a beautiful boat , I'm sure she will serve you well . Bought sight unseen , you did real good :)
Great to hear about your new boat and adventures. Best of luck!
I was looking forward to you guys sailing in Scandinavia, guess I'll have to wait a few years to see that now🤷♂️
With Aladino`s Superb craftsmanship and eye for perfection, and Maya`s creative and artistic style, it is going to look amazing.... Let the next chapter begin... I for one will be watching every video.... Take care Guys and stay safe..... :-)))) xxxx
Cape George’s are awesome and beautiful boats. Congrats!!
Wow! I know you two are more than capable of creating your dream boat and sailings adventures. I’ll be with you for the whole journey!
Beautiful. Bet she is glad to have you both to make her shine again.
Pretty Boat. She's gonna take you as far as you dream of going. Congrats.
Congratulations Maya and Aledino! So excited for your new life adventures on Cape George soon to be named....? We are BIG fans!!
Congratulation to Maya & Aladino, your channel has reached 100k subscribers this week !
Third - could you put a smiley mouth at the forward end of the cabin top - at least temporarily?😉
Exciting times.😉😉😉⛵️
It’s Captain Q and Ran-day. 😂😂😂 Love the boat!!! 👍👍👍
The start of yet another great chapter in your lives, congratulations on your new home, wishing you many happy and safe miles
I think you guys have landed yourselves a magnificent sea boat! I will be looking forward to seeing her come together!
MiRo
Sooo excited for you guys! You are one of the reasons we bought a boat and sailing channel. Thank you for sharing your story!
That’s so wonderful to hear ♥️ good luck with your adventures!
Aladino(?) will work wonders with that boat..can't wait
Beautiful intro, loving the violin, creating drama in a very sophisticated way. If your head is Raritan, simply go electric, adding the upgrade kit to your present install.
The Cape George is a great blue water cruiser. Good luck!
Excellent as always. I'm very excited about your new boat.
Deck Prisms, Sold... I cannot wait to watch you two bring this beauty back to her prime.
Best part of the sprit is the anchor storage fwd of the deck.
👍 I know y’all will make this boat awesome. Good luck 👍
Congratulations she looks like a beauty and in very good condition for an older boat. All the best for the refurbishment
Great project. It's a beautiful boat and I'm looking forward to more of Aladino's restoration episodes.
Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations! Watching from Los Angeles, CA Happy time for your guys. Thank you. Steve Miller.
Best wishes on your new boat
