Robby, I wish I could have a conversation with you about the FJ55 build. I have restored three of them and know them fairly well. There are some tricks and there's some things that you might take into consideration before you get yourself really deep into it. I have a pair of doors in Heber. The thing that is broken off on the doors is the remains of the original mirrors.
I'll second this. FJ55's are special. At least the sheet metal is mostly flat. Rarest kind of Land Cruiser.
The boss is right you should leave that junk where it was
It's official..you guys are crazy.. thankfully Hillbilly did not get killed in that insanity...
One more thing I would like to add to this, is that every pig deservers a Toyota Frame, so put this thing on a newer landcruiser chassis like a early 90's 80 series. every Land Cruiser deserves a Japanese Frame.
contact him… his email is under the About tab.
Demri's enthusiasm shines right through the camera. Looks like a great idea and project.
ROBBY…this was my dads old Toyota!! Me and my brother learned how to drive in this!!! 😂😂We grew up in Am Fork and he was the one that put the sheet metal on the sides! The mirror on the driver side was ripped off from me and brother fighting over the steering wheel!! THANK YOU FOR MEMORIES!! I was the oldest of seven and the 3 older kids learned how to drive in that! So fun to see it run!! Can’t wait to see it when it’s all done!!💗
BEST FIRST DRIVE EVER!!😂😂😂😂 my hubby once had to drive it out of Levan canyon with no brakes!!! YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING !
Dude ! You are a body man ! Don't make it look old ! Give it the robbie treatment
so glad and excited that you're doing a FJ build and not just slapping a JK tub on there. JKs are like Rabbits of the off road world, just more and more multiplying and coming out of the bushes every day! this is a way cooler build and will make for way more interesting content, as well as a way cooler looking overall end project for you to wheel around plus you will be able to pack in the whole family and still have room for some camping gear and whatnot!🤘🤘
I am a certified shade tree mechanic, and I approve of this kind of behavior!
It is so nice to see someone other than me install something backwards and have to do it all over again👍but as Paul would say, we do it nice cause we do it twice😂
We would love to do the Rollcage on the Toyota FJ-55🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
HillBilly deserves a raise! That young man knows his way around a wrench. Cool ride guys, good luck.
You are in my prayers
Hoka Hey
Demri's smile and laughter make my day 😁
I’d laugh so hard I thought I was gonna have to go to the emergency room to get stitches. You guys are awesome.😂
That old Toyota is a charmer for sure... SOOOOOO much character!! 🤣
Everyone loves a unique build ! Looking forward to the whole build series.
They are indestructible the old Tojo's as we call them here in Australia. I had a couple of them when i worked as an exploration Geologist in the outback in Australia. Awesome vehicles that would go anywhere. Love 'em.
Great move on the FJ cuz now the kids can go off road its all about family your awesome robby
I'm thinking the FJ is looking like it's going to need more help than the Golden Nugget, but I know if it can be done, you're the team to make it look pristine.
I don't know, the golden nugget had particle board doors 🤣
FJ 55 land cruisers used to race in the dakar rally in the 80's. This is build is awehsome.. Thankyou guys for saving the landcruiser.
I wasn’t really into the Jeep build because of the LS but with the change in the body I’m definitely interested in seeing this build now
Glad you guys are using the Toyota body on the JK chassis. This will make it as unique as the Morviar
Not quite, the morrvair is a completely custom built unibody with hand-built suspension. It's still a lot more custom than a body swap. Not that this won't be cool but they're not the same
@@Beandiptheredneck Moorvair is not a custom body. i was a Corvair wagon customized to fit on a chassis.
@@mustangman4291980 it's not on a chassis. They cut the entire floor out and built a handmade unibody. That's why it sits low and doesn't have any frame sticking out underneath
Hillbilly is nuts, riding on the front. I laughed so much watching. great video!!
We called my desert tan, 1978 Landcruiser "Daktari", named after a 1960's tv show. I bought it in 1988 for $500 and it ran well. It was built like a tank and it could go anywhere. My friends referred to it as the dinosaur. Every time we took it out was an adventure. One time, on a long offroad excursion, the fuel pump died in the bush, miles from anywhere. We had to rig up a pop can to manually feed fuel into the carburertor, to drive it out of the bush. I think we did it like you did with the hood up and a guy standing on the front bumper. Your video brought back fond memories of that experience although at the time it was extremely stressful. It was a daily driver for 2 years and I had plans to restore the vehicle but sadly, with regret, it went to the wreckers instead. Everything still worked including the electric window in the rear tailgate.. Just needed new brakes. I bought two brand new front fenders to replace the rusty ones but never installed them. The only part I still have is the jack. Great video! Too bad you will destroy your original Landcruiser. It is unique. So ugly, you have to love it!
For my money, the Cruiser is the coolest build you guys have done so far. I'd love to see you do another that isn't bastardized ;-)
I've not missed one of your shows since I first saw you on the diesel brothers channel, please keep the nuts and bolts stuff in the shows, love the builds and bodywork too, it's good to see how other people work as it's always good to learn something new or even see experience working, like hill Billy talking about using the compound on that cover plate. Plus none of us is perfect, well guys know no one is perfect, but happy wife tip try saying to her no one is perfect except you. Anyway, thank you all for the hard work that goes into all your shows and all the very best from Scotland.
This is going to be such a great project. I’m looking forward to seeing Robby work his magic on the cruiser. Great video…
Broncstar oh yeah and thanks for not building a boring jeep! Everyone has one but you don't see someone building a Broncstar or a FJ55.
I second the motion to locate another 55 for parts before fully committing to that body. Thanks for sharing
robby your cool af brotha and your son im sure is very proud of what you do.. you got my full respect and support i guess you can always tell good people when you see them
Hey Robbie! Don't forget to use a liberal amount of thread anti-seize on those gold anodized spring adjuster nuts! If you don't the threads could easily gaul and lock up.
The content I love is when you guys all go for a drive 😙
This build series is getting more interesting for me as a LC fan...good to see this
I was interested to watch you build a JK crawler. I am excited watch the FJ build. This is gonna be great! Let’s go Land Crusher!
Really looking forward to this build!!
I may be just a bit more excited to see THIS build, than the W. B.O. R. Wrecker. Sorry Mat, but ...... well you know..... me and Paul, are kind 'a Yoda guys. Should be some GOOD stuff!
This will be fun to see how you finish this out. Looking forward to it.
G'day guys. These 55s are fairly rare here in Australia Too. At least ones that are still alive. Those 2f Tojo motors are pretty much indestructible, quite thirsty though. . That back window could we'll be jammed inside the tail gate/ door. These 55s were well known for rust. Good luck 🤞
They sort of defined the term „Toyota Rust Cruiser“
Memories, memories!! I drove one all over the Middle East gulf states back in the late 70s. It never let me down. Absolutely bullet proof 4.2l straight six.
JEEZUS you guys perform miracles on a regular basis. Seeing what gets brought into your shop, then seeing that object completely transformed and renewed roll on its on power. Great work, great team, great channel.
That was awesome!! The Toyota actually ran and the 3 amigos were hanging out having fun. Great video I can tell the crew had such fun doing this one.
I love the Iron Pig!
I used to have a very good condition ‘71 that I sold for $3500 😖….. That’s is one I wish I’d held onto!
I can’t believe Hillbilly didn’t fall off in what seemed to be a very rainy day. Strong man!!! 👍🏻😁
Your paint and body work is fun to watch but THIS is why I keep coming back!
......and with these immortal words, " How could have this accident been prevented"!
Brayden is doing an excellent job! Better than many older experienced videographers!
This is one the best project ever ! Love to see more of this !
"You don't have to do it the right way, but it hailps!" love it
Given that the dash looks a lot like the one on the Toyota pick up for that year, there might be some chance that various parts are interchangeable between the pick up and the Landcruiser for that year. It maybe worth looking into.
Keep the chassis and put the JK on it. You know that’s a great idea. 😉. I’m looking forward to this build. This is gonna look sweet!
Can’t wait to see the fj progress this is going to look soo sick
Always love a new Robby Layton video!
Just a little tip when using cherry picker/engine hoist. You can lift the boom up instead of pumping to desired height before lifting.
I'm so excited for this build! I hope it all works out
I completely understand Hillbilly. I've never had a workbench. I worked on bicycles, scooter engines, other garage stuff on ground and I got used to it. Plus, nothing can fall off the bench and get lost, unless you step on it or it falls through a crack in the floor.
This will be great if you make it like the banana of Matts recovery but with the blue colors of Robby Layton. Hope you make it look like new the exterior. It would be a great recover vehicle 4x4. Make it like new. Sandblasted all the exterior and rebuild like NEW!!!!!!
Thats just Gold. Simply Gold. Love the drive at the end
im really glad yall starting on a a vintage body. I think yall know the viewers respond more to a vintage build. You can buy and mod a new jeep all the long, but the character in the vintage builds jus draws us in. were starving for a build like the golden nugget, this is it.
Aww We love Dinner!! Good to see him!
I like the phrase, "Performed by professional..." Nothing sketchy about that!
I love the suggestion from Bleeping Jeep., And thank you, Robby, for going along with that. Looking forward to the finished product. Will be watching as many videos as I can. Love that Toyota. PS. Think Hillbilly for all you do.
Fauxtina would look pretty amazing. Super stoked to see you bring the old girl back.
Great content! This was one to remember!
There`s something about a junker getting rejuvenated that makes me happy.
That was one of the funniest videos I have seen you guys put out😂😂😂 I owned a 1971 J40 when I lived on Catalina Island. I called it the yellow submarine after it rolled into the ocean. I sold it 5 years later. That straight six engine was amazing. Two pumps of the gas pedal with the choke on and it would fire up every time.
“I think it’s too nice” love it.
Let your son know that we all think y’all are amazing parents. You do amazing work Robby!
I'm with the Mrs. you need to look for another FJ55 and perhaps use this one as a donor ..... that is if the ashtray is salvageable? 😂😂
I am so excited for this build! Thank you
OH man... blue and black will be awesome for that new build!!
You guys have to put stripes on it again. Definitely keep that retro look
I agree with Demri, you’re going to need a whole new FJ. It’s a good thing you own a body shop!
It's coming along nicely guys.
Can't wait to see you guys finish the FK55😁
That was a great Idea Choosing the Toyota. Really looking forward to it.
That was the craziest thing I have ever seen you guys do ! LOL ! Thanks for sharing I think ? LOL !
Wow, you guys are fun to watch. Can’t say I would do that, but this is a hillbilly shenanigan if I seen one. Way to go, Demri’s laughter said it all.
I can’t wait for this series!!!
Your paint idea (color scheme) sounds good. I like it.
The love of FJ 55 and 45 made bought FJ cruiser. That thing is tank we used to own one and looking forward to see how amazing this build will be
Your color combo will be perfect
Can't wait to see how these turn out!
Lovin the new nickname for “Hillbilly “, Batman, He really does, some “Bruce Wayne” level stuff 🙏❤️😎🤙🛻💨
That's going to be a sweet rig when it's on the JK chassi running, great video thank's for sharing ❤😉👍
LOVE THE FJ " drive" , HILLBILLY is definitely the WILD MAN , YOU are WONDERFULLY CRAZY , DINNER is all SMILES and your wife is BEAUTIFUL 💐
HAPPY THOUGHTS AND POSITIVE ENERGY ALWAYS 👍👍💥👌✌️
Good thing you own a body shop. I don't envy the people tasked with fixing that rusty shell. I'm with Demri on this one.
You get all the cool ones. I need to start looking more. I need a project.
That was absolutely nuts! 🤘
I loved that "its too nice" statement and I too concur lol
50 Shades of CRAZY !!! it's going to be a cool build
Lol How many Hillbillies does it take to operate an old FJ ...apparently just two😆🤠 Grandpa Hillbilly must be so proud 🥲 That wonderfully running rust bucket will definitely take some serious dedication but you guys have it!
Love this too much! 🤣 I've participated in a bunch of similar shenanigans with old lancruisers. Maemories!
I love that Land Cruiser! White with chrome with blue and black stripes would look sweet
Awesome as always
Can’t wait to see the next video in this series
Well you saw it here first a land cruiser with a mechanic under the hood while driving. What could go wrong?!😅👍 Have a blessed week, your going to need it, amen.
You guys are officially nuts! Great to see the old girl run.
Im stoked that thing is gunna be cool 🎉❤
Seeing that FJ55 reminded Me of My days of Apprenticeship at Northern Toyota & I did a lot of PDI's on them along with the 1000 miles. 3000 miles, 6000 mile & 12000 miles services on them. Oh yea, brings back memories. That was crazy with You & Hillbilly did. Hillbilly fits right in with My partner when We used to set timing up on Datsun 240Z's. Only at 90 MPH.
Oh! PS, Paul's is a FJ45. FJ40's also had same front end style.
I'm excited for this.
You guys are crazy but fun to watch.
Don't stop what your doing.
Greetings! Originally I was bummed out and bored with this project. I (still) want to see the Broncstar finished. BUT! When you all decided to put that Toyota body on that frame, now I'm all in! Can't wait to see it finished! And Whiskers, and Frank... Whiskers has a special place as I've mentioned before: my first dog's name.
