On a nice Saturday day, we went to the river "Raunis" to paddle along the river and test our strength in such an adventure, because we had never done anything like this before.

Raunis is one of the tributaries of Rauna, which flows along the northern slope of the Vidzeme highlands in Cēsi county.
Raunis is one of the fastest rivers in Latvia, its drop is 7.7 meters per kilometer. The river along its entire length is very shallow (depth from half a meter to a meter) and meandering, it has many rapids and drifts of trees. The bed is rocky, in the upper and lower reaches it is more sandy and pebbly. In the lower reaches, the river valley is up to 30 m deep. The banks are steep, with many sandstone outcrops (Rauņa Skaņaiskalns, Danku rocks, Svitrainā klints, Kunču rocks, etc.), some of which have discovered Devonian fossils; springs, slopes and small caves are found on the banks. The river water is very clean, contains very little organic matter, but a lot of iron. Raunis valley is difficult to access and little affected by human activity.
