  • Robot vacuums hate black lines and black patterns on flooring and carpets. They detect them like a cliff or a fall and avoid them. This video will show you a way to overcome this problem. Not a stick a paper over sensor solution. It shows you how to disable the sensors by isolating the control components. I use a RoboRock S5 for this. If you are not sure how to open and reach the sensors, there is another video in this channel on how to open and clean a Roborock - please watch that first here
    • RoboRock dismantle and...
A reminder that doing this will VOID your WARRANTY.

you're a genius. this helped me a lot. i made small tubes out of a paper straw and fixed the LEDs with some electrical tape. I wish i knew this trick before, because it works perfectly fine. it took me 1 1/2 hours in total.

    Thank you!
But what if we also have stairs in the house? And some black colour on some carpets. Can we use your method or we have the risk to fall off the stairs if we add the paper on the sensors/sensors facing each other ?

if there are steps it will fall off so you cannot use this method unless you have set up an invisible wall through your app.

If your vacuum supports map editing, and adding no-gone zones, you can set a no-go zone right where the stairs are, so it will avoid going there

I have the opposite problem, I don't want my vacuum to clean the carpet as it eats the edges and gets stuck - and the software for the original Mi vacuum doesn't have no-go zones :(

Hi, could it work if I just put aluminum tape (reflective) on the sensors?

Not so well and complain is often that it drops off after some time. This solution for me has been in place for a long time with no issues.
