    Recently traded my V4S Panigale for the Streetfighter. They are very different bikes. The Panigale was really just too fast too enjoy on the street. As a sport bike it was very easy to ride, you just can’t appreciate that much power unless you’re at a track. The Streetfighter is in a very different state of tune that allows you to use much more of the engine (I think the punch is still there, just not so in your face), is remarkably comfortable and yet seems to retain all the agility of it’s race focused relative. As a rider who might be lucky enough for a couple of track days a year, the Streetfighter has been a much better choice. Don’t think I’ve loved another bike a much as my Streetfighter. But both are simply amazing however, and it’s hard to beat the beauty of the Panigale.

    Had a 1299 for four years after a succesion of Italian Sportbikes. Lovely ownwership experience and a great bike I spent a small fortune on in aftermarket parts, but I tested the V4 Pani' (even faster, even easier) and just came to the conclusion that Superbikes (or Superbike engined naked's) are an irrelevance to ride on the road now. Superb machines and I love them all, but trying to get a buzz on them on the road is going to end badly one way or another in the end. My saving grace was an out of character test of the Hyper' 950....WOW.... it was like going back 25 years, massive fun and hooning, but not Pani' warp speed, did some research and saw the 44Teeth review of the 950 and changed the 1299 for a 950 SP the next day. Keep it right side up kids......from an old git who can't hack it anymore :-)

      The 950 Hyper is actually the only new bike I really, really want. My current bike is a 990SD, and the one before was a KTM 950SM. The SD is not going anywhere, but if I'm getting a new one the Hyper is the answer.

    Just traded my 2018 Panigale for the Streetfighter. Absolutely agree with all your points. The road handling of the Streetfighter is sublime. So although I love the looks of the Panigale, the punt I took on ordering the Streetfighter in November has paid off. For the road it is just about perfect. Off to do some more running in...

    Lads I'd love to see you guys do a video on what's best for the road when it comes to real world fun bikes... I'll use the Yamahas as an example... is it the "lower" power (with spec'd up suspension etc) MT07... is it the middleweight MT09 or is it the supernaked MT10... which is really most fun in the real world? You could apply the same logic to the KTMs, Triumphs, Kawasakis etc etc

      Great comment @NomadLad. So often the focus is 'track, track, track' when you don't fucking well buy a bike for the track but to hoon around on the road, commuting to work, riding around the hills & the odd weekend escape. PS I had the MT07 for three years & it was a rewarding bike. So underrated and more power than you'd expect for a 650/680/700. Respect to you mate.

      i would say, some midrange bike like the mt09 or Street Trible, KTM 790 etc. more than enought for the streets and less cheaper than the super naked. I mean yeah the big boys make fun and i enjoy my Super Duke everytime but the brain just hits the emergency switch every time you sit on the bike beside of the effect of the wallet it has.

      I won't answer the question but I test ride a lot of bikes, basically every new bike for the last 5 years, and the single main factor for a fun road bike, for me, is power to weight ratio. If you're choosing between 2 bikes, the lighter one is generally more fun.
      Hope that helps!

    • @6Twisted
      @6Twisted 4 роки тому +2

      I'll throw in my 2 cents. I recently upgraded from an MT-07 to a 1290 Super Duke and I'd say realistically the MT-07 is more fun. It's cheaper, smaller, lighter and you can actually use most of what it's got and enjoy the noise without losing your license. The Super Duke is just scary amounts of power and goes from chill to losing your license/death in 2 seconds. I only got rid of the MT-07 because they rust, the stock suspension is awful, it has no quickshifter and mine had some wear and tear but those are things that can be fixed if you don't mind spending a little extra on it. The MT-07 is a bit gutless after 70mph but it was more fun around town (the Super Duke can power wheelie up to 130mph which isn't very fun around town).

    Worth noting... the guy (Dave Moss Tuning) who setup my suspension on my Streetfighter V4S informed me that the Streetfighter has the Panigale V4R front forks which to him was a big deal and a real advantage over the Panigale V4S forks. I don't remember the technical reasons of what made the R forks so much better but he was happy about that. FYI. Cool review of the two bikes. Thanks guys.

    Judging by your highly regarded opinions, I would definitely go for the Streetfighter V4S. I love the way it sits there minding it own business. At first, I was intimidated by the numbers. However, after listening to you guys, I feel confident that I could tour with it. Enjoy it. Rev its pants off when I want and be content with its wings. Being half Italian myself, I guess it's fitting that its more tame than the Panigale V4S. I guess you have to be full blooded Italian for that machine. Sorry, just being a bit of a sausage there. Thanks for the comparison gentleman. Much love from Pittsburgh PA! Cheers!

    I own a 19 V4S and I do prefer the bike without the wings. For the people that don’t like the wings, just buy an earlier model. I know there are a few computer and mechanical features that differentiate the older v4s and the new but not enough if one doesn’t like the wings. Honestly, the wings are there for the very top of the line guys needing every tiny advantage possible in a race. I beat a guy on a brand new winged v4s like he owed me money whilst riding my V4S without wings. It it comes down to the driver’s talent and the little things a bike can give to help the rider win a race. In the case of weekend warriors, it just isn’t going to make two cents difference.
    Fastest bike in the world or not, the Ducati V4S is just a beautiful and amazing piece of machinery. I found myself on an open highway late at night coming back from a big event and McLaren P1 rolls up on me and we both just went balls out. Now that was a blast.
    So rather I am on an auto Cross track, drag racing, or just cruising, the Ducati’s are just outstandingly remarkable and beautiful machines.

    A month ago I did the same test myself as I decided it was time after 8 years to change my Panigale 1199S for a new one. I did the back to back on Snell’s two V4’s and came to the conclusion that for the road the Panigale needed the sprockets changed to the same gearing as the Streetfighter. My decision was to get the Streetfighter V4S, however I then got distracted by a new V4R and bought that. However on a back to back I have to agree with you that the Streetfighter is the much better road bike, and one hell of a bike all together.
    Now the next interesting test, on the road, testing the 2020 Panigale V4S against the V4R...!

    Frame geometry is identical meaning both bikes have the same frame casting with respect to the steering, however, the rake angle is 2 degrees different - this is done with a frame insert to change the head angle. The SF has more rake. I have confirmed this visually with part numbers and measured both bikes with a digital angle finder.

    Just done a two day trip around Germany, Czech and Poland with a Panigale 4v and Tuono, on the autobahn the Panigale was more comfortable at (very) high speed, everywhere else the Tuono was more comfortable. The Tuono was faster on the roads we didn't know because of the higher riding position and the wider bars which made changing lines midway round a corner an option you don't get with a Panigale which holds a line beautifully on track but needs too much commitment to go fast on the road when the Tuono can be slung into a corner and then picked up and slung in a second time or just tightened up without any dramas so it was much more confidence inspiring.
    My vote for best street bike would be an RSV4 1100 with modified race fairing (to save neck muscles) and Tuono top yoke to take the Tuono bars, similar to the Pikes Peak Tuono. Money waiting if Aprilia are interested and can resist the urge to do the reducing torque thing Ducati ruined the Streetfighter with. And for gods sake buy the switchgear from the same place as Ducati and put some decent paint on it.

    • @mase886
      @mase886 2 роки тому

      Tuono has les torque than Rsv4 only at those peak rpm's you can't use on the street. ..or you mean you'd better trade low rpm torque with more peak hp and have a Tuono with same heads and tune of Rsv4 for street use ?

      I'm hopefully getting back on a bike in the next couple of years after a long hiatus. I used to have a 2013 1199S and had over 5k miles on it before life circumstances forced me to sell it. I honestly thought it was very comfortable for a sport bike especially considering it was my first sport bike EVER.
      The SFV4S has caught my attention, but after having a Panigale and putting plenty of miles on it, I think I will be going with a Panigale V4S.
      There's just something oh so magical and sexy about the Panigales that I know if I went with the SFV4S I would eventually see a Panigale V4S on the road and regret my decision.
      Sorry for the long response. Lol...

    Great review! Love my 2020 Panigale V4 - no issues and have approximately 2k miles so far. Selected it over the Streetfighter due to looks/preference for race bikes over the standard supernaked models. It definitely feels more subdued compared to my 1198, but love the improvement in cornering and power in upper RPMs. Love them both! I will however be adding the Akra system to V4 "get back" some of that angry attitude though! By the way, you can buy straight from Ducati an option that removes the Panigale wings and replaces them with a "red insert" (I actually like mine as is and will keep the wings).

    20:50 "if you're doing 130 on the road, you're either gonna be dead, or arrested"
    That's the speed at which we ride in Mexico 😎 (on 1000cc+ superbikes and when the road conditions allows it)

    • @CharlesA_337
      @CharlesA_337 4 роки тому +2

      Can do the same in the USA, but same thing, depends on the conditions. Much, much harder to do any sustained high speeds in New England compared to, say, New Mexico.

      Here in Miami if your doing less than 90-mph, someone is up your ass. So a typical ride I cruise at 105-115mph !! These guys live in a cramped place not good for 1000-cc Superbikes!! I wouldn’t own over a 450-cc in the UK

    I own a 2018 Super Duke 1290r. All the horsepower and torque below 9500 rpm around town. I wanted a companion to the SD. I looked at the Streetfighter V4 but I can not use all the power of the SD. So my companion bike to the beast is the beauty, MV Agusta Dragster 800 rr Pirelli Edition. The Triple sounds like a F1. With 370 pounds dry, 54 inch WB and 140 horsepower, it is perfect.

    I recently traded my '18 Panigale for a Z900RS after collecting too many points on my license in the hope it would slow me down... I have to say, I'm absolutely now in the camp that riding superbikes on the road is just not worth it - I get far more enjoyment from my naked retro, open face helmet and legal speeds. The crazy thing is it is just as fun when blasting around the Yorkshire Dales.

    I think we fall in the same category as far as our opinions go for the Streetfighter. Get the thought out of your mind that it's not a great bike, because it absolutely is. It can handle everything you throw at it and do it just fine. The issue comes when comparing it to the Panigale, and the fact that you are comparing it to the Panigale itself, that find yourself feeling like anything less than the Panigale would mean you lose out on potential performance. So you have to define what is your own personal potential, because everyone knows the potential for the bike. Do you really find yourself able to eek out the extra power at the top, while settling for the poor seating position? This is the hardest choice I'm having between the two: Performance at the top end that I would use in a limited capacity, Vs. seating comfort and ride-ability that I would be able to use at all times. I know I'd be comfortable both in my seat and in my arms with controlling the Streetfighter, but in the back of my mind I know I'd be missing out on all the Super Bike qualities that make me love Ducati so much.
    Another example of difficult choices to make (both extremely out of my ballpark but comparison wise it makes sens): Lamborghini Murcielago with its gated manual shifter, or Lamborghini Aventadore. You want a Lamborghini because you want that Italian supercar performance, you want the V12, you want the entire experience. It all boils down to flappy paddles or the third pedal, and you have to ask yourself the question "Will I drive this through town, in stop-go traffic having to baby it and enjoy it, or would I rather prefer the simplicity of flappy paddles to let me take in the experience more?"
    It's a tough choice. I'm just glad that I'm here to be able to witness and experience them hopefully in the future.
