I think the one of the good things about the rap/rock sound is it brings people into the genre that have never listened to hip hop before. Run DMC's rock this way has gotten lots of ppl who were only listening to rock into hip hop. The Beastie boys have done the same thing. Hip hop i think is one of the only genres that can incorporate many genres sonically from neo-soul to rock to jazz etc. i say as long as the lyrics and a clear topic is there then its all good.

What yall think about The Nas and Damien Marley LP, was the essence of hip hop lost then?

@yugang08 You are 100% correct about that. Run DMC and Beatie Boys contributed heavily to expanding hip hop to the white audience. I do think hip hop can transcend genres. I mean, after all, it started as raps over disco beats.

Almost all the rappers that stayed relevant from the 90s did one thing. They adapted to the ¨new hiphop scene ¨. They started making songs with younger artists ( even tho it wasnt really good ) . They started making party music or more mainstream friendly music ( pop/hiphop).

@pearsecfc07 I loved the album but as far as essence, not really. Some of those beats really had a hip hop sound to it.

you could argue LL Cool J is relevant, he is on NCIS which is a big show (i think) and he does host the Grammys every year !!!

You can't blame Travis for Pharoh's poor album sales. Sales drive what business does. If you want Pharah to sell well it has to be a culture thing. People need to buy it. A lot of people don't understand that what you purchase controls the market. Unfortunately you can't control the masses and what they purchase. Most people don't appreciate music like us.

ok, i see both points on the "race" issue.
1.it's not about the color of the person's skin, but the skills of the artists
2.Certain people like to come and use the "hip hop culuture" for it's fans and exposure because they c our $ in it
LL is still relevant! LOL! He may not be dropping hits like he did, but he got consistency in the game.
Other then the rebirth album-what rap rock album didn't crossover well? I'm really asking lol

feefo that kind of an unfair question to ask from the rip becuz we r in a an era of where artists cant stay relevant for a year regardless if theyre good or not...very few can. but for the most part not really. unfortunatly.
