    Tetyana Filevska, Creative Director at the Ukrainian Institute, tells Mariella Frostrup on #TimesRadio there is a “crucial cultural front” in the war in Ukraine.
    Mariella Frostrup is live from Cheltenham Literature Festival which is hosting Ukraine Day, filled with specially co-curated events celebrating Ukrainian writers, poets, musicians and filmmakers.

    You would struggle to find many examples of Russian culture that have influence on westerners. Young Russians are far more influenced by western culture, commercialism and soft power.

    "if you asked me to define English culture, I couldn't"
    Strange how anyone but the English progressives can easily define it.
    Maybe at at time where sovereignty has been shown to be an easy target, nations should put in the effort to push their values forward?
    Really bugs me that we are meant to support Ukraine in defending their national values and sovereignty,
    while at the same time undermining our own.
    EU/The West should be a set of different national identities working together, not a homogenized blob of uncertainty.
    That said, I do support Ukraine fully in this fight to take back all of it's lost territories,
    but it's time for European nations to grow back their spine and not be afraid to be proud of their countries.

    • @osuunaftmath
      @osuunaftmath Рік тому

      @@raiamonte9283 Agreed.
      But trust me, it's not just England.
      I'm Norwegian, and we most certainly have people buying into this nonsense to.
      There is a strange push towards a unified European identity without actually describing what that looks like or any discussion of what harm it may cause.

    Nothing could be more basic to Ukrainian culture than the Cossak defiance of the Sultan who demand surrender but got a rude rebuttal paralleled by the response of the defenders of Snake Island to the Russian warship. A large painting of this event hangs in an art museum in Moscow, and an even more lively patining of the same size hangs in Kiev. Ukrainians have paid attention to their cultural heritage of sassiness. If Putin had gotten out and to the museum, he might have understood the Ukrainians better. Slava Ukraini!

    • @86RDG
      @86RDG Рік тому

      Makes for a great story but the letter to the sultan never actually happened, just as the response of the defenders of Snake Island wasn't what it was made to be. The men surrendered, were publicly fed by the Russians and released(exchanged) to Ukraine. Needless to say that the Russians had a field day with that propaganda blunder.

      The wonderful thing that is about to happen is that the nations which the Ruzzians have colonized will demand autonomy and independence.
      They will expel Ruzzians living among them as will Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Königsberg.
      China will take back the parts of Manchuria that were stolen from them.
      Ruzzia will be a fraction of what it once was. And that will be a blessing to the world.
