I used to wear gloves while cleaning, but my current hamsters pee in unpredictable places, so feeling what bedding is wet is important for being able to remove soiled bedding and still leave clean bedding with their smell. Hamsters get stressed if you removed all their bedding. Actually, they chatter at me for doing spot cleaning, but it does need to be done for their health. So thorough hand washing occurs instead of gloves.

What do you do when they leave “presents” in their beds/furniture? Especially the fabric objects? I’ve seen people vacuum droppings daily, which seems manageable… but is lingering bacteria a concern? It’s something I really worry about with pets in general… but I still want to give them comfy beds and hides.
What helps is if you put fleece pee pads inside the beds, tunnels, sacks, etc...and switch out the pee pads every day or two, depending on how wet or dirty it is. Pee pads is the key to keeping things clean as they are smaller and easier to wash/dry. Chenille bath mats have become really popular and switching them out every 2-3 days keeps the cage fresh. They are also easy to wash and dry.
@@susanlee7530 Doesn’t the urine just wick through the fleece and get on the beds/hides anyway? I’ve always used disposable substrates/liners for my small pets, so I’m not very knowledgable about how fleece setups work. 😣

However the fleece pee pads have an absorbent layer under the fleece which absorb the pee. I buy most of my pee pads from Etsy and the sellers typically use u-haul as the absorbent layer. You can also take a piece of fleece and wrap it around the u-haul liner. Using reusable fleece pads is better environmentally than disposable pads.

How much does Olive weigh? I'm worried my Spud might have ovarian cysts, but the vet didn't seem concerned to even check and said she might have lost weight just because she's "old" (she's almost 4... that's not that old?). I weigh her weekly and she hasn't been losing, but she is small! What are Olive's symptoms?
My Guinea pigs is the same way and idk why I try to feed them other things but they won’t eat it and idk why they only will eat green food and vegetables
