- Written by James Brown and Johnny Terry as a James Brown and the Famous Flames single on Federal Records in 1956, "Please, Please, Please", is the group's debut recording, first chart hit, and signature song. James Brown, according to Etta James, "used to carry around an old tattered napkin with him, because Little Richard had written the words, 'please, please, please' on it and James was determined to make a song out of it". "Please, Please, Please" was released on February 26, 1956, selling slowly at first, the record reached the top 10 of the R&B charts by late summer, and eventually peaked at No. 6, selling between one and three million copies.
In 2001, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and in 2011, "Please, Please, Please" was ranked No. 143 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
An odd man by all accounts but when he sang he was always “on.” Love the gospel undertones of this tune. Tremendous upload doc.

He was overcome with grief and emotion, fell to his knees, his band mates rushed to his aid, cloaking him in reminder of his real glory as they started to lead him off the stage, where upon he threw off the esteem of men in service to his art.
