- Tribute.ca chats with Geoffrey Rush at the Toronto International Film Festival about his role in "The King's Speech" as the man who helps the King find a voice with which to lead the nation into war.
The only thing that disappoints me about this great movie is he fact that GEOFFREY RUSH did not win an Oscar either. He would have deserved it as much as Colin Firth deserved his!

Geoffrey Rush was the star of "The King's Speech".
He is the star in most of his films I think, one way or another. I love this man! But I love Collin Firth too. The both men are astounding actors.

Most impressive voice indeed! A lot of younger generation actors don’t have this sort of voice any more…
He speaks Australian cultivated, a rare accent where an Aussie speaks correct English, not bogan (or common) Australia. I descend from a long line of middle class Australians so both parents and all four grandparents speak like this (I can do the accent although usually I just try and sound more neutral/common).
I just watched "The King's Speech" for the third time (in the theater and on DVD) and am even more impressed with Mr. Rush's performance than I was at the first. The DVD has an extra feature of listening to the director's commentary and the scenes with Mr. Rush are are profoundly moving. He can "say" more with a look than most can with a speech. He deserved an Oscar for his performance without a doubt.

J.Rush is such a great actor, in the King speech, he is brilliant, Colin Firth probably had hard time to compete, don't get it wrong, Colin Firth is a wonderfull actor and deserve all the best he can get for his performance
I Dig Geoffery Rush I like how he Presents his Chars and himself as well I enjoyed the Kings Speech I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but in the end I did I sure would like to meet him and thank him for being such an amazing Actor
Let him talk for god sake... why so many interviewers like to answer questions they asked the guest.

The fact is I watched the film, but it was completely dubbed in Russian ... And the tongue-twister, of course, is also replaced by a Russian one. And here - the original, and it's great!)

Yes, I think I should look at the original version, thanks for the advice! Movies really help - I watched a lot of movies with Alan Rickman without translation - is better than any exercise))
And Rush ... In the scenes where he read Shakespeare, I am very sorry that there are no original tracks ...
So him on stage a few years ago. Does not go for cheap laughs showing the tragic and the fine line to comedic or grotesque. Part of the Australian classically trained theater actors who have made the leap into international film carriers.

Probably a stupid question but is Geoffrey Rush well known in other countries? I mean he's a big star here in Australia, but I wonder if he's well known in America and Europe, etc.
He should be at least, he's a very excellent actor. I didn't realize he was Australian for a long time, shameful as I live in the same city as he does, you'd think I know. I just assume you're always either American or English as a white Hollywood actor.
Indeed he is! :-) He's won every Award presented in America to honor his very talented Acting Art, and he's recognized throughout the World.

He seems so bored by this lady's questions. He's probably heard them all a hundred times.
On press junkets I'm sure that they have to answer the same questions over and over again
Some of the comments posted here are quite thoughtless. Khanate27 for instance: who on earth do you think you are to pre-judge anyone, moreso when you know nothing about that person? But even then, its downright tasteless.

My advice is to try to watch the English original version. It might help you learn English a lot. Especially Geoffrey Rush speaks exceptionally well as he is usually a stage actor Shakespeare, etc…)

A fascinating and unfortunate aspect of this film is that it has very little story. Rush's character helps Firth's character overcome a speech impediment. Their wives provide moral support. Watch it for the acting and the settings.

I am a stammer and have stammered from 5 years old. its gotten worse and I agree with him on the macanical wheels trying to turn but it keeps stalling

Not really. So just living with it. Might talk to a phycologist or someone. Think its a deep rooted stammer from childhood
SM TALKS I had several speech problems early also thankfully through speech therapy I became fairly Adept at speaking including competitive speech. I wish you the best with your efforts.
TREY RIVER I went to some of the best speech therapy establishments and still not helped. Some days are better then others. Thanks for the good wishes

Yes, he has a great voice, the timbre is easy on the ear, too bad he's not so easy on the eye. He looks slightly dishevelled, and grubby. Perhaps Rush is a little 'shower shy'. He looks as though he would have grubby habits and thoughts as well.
Very unfair, he is an artist not a hairdresser or office manager. Marvelous actor with a sense of humor about us and himself. Did you see the pianist, was that the title, about the musical genius tortured by his father ?
