Hi David, thank you for the video, I have a question please, in minute 7:58 how can we make the color change with any input and not only with ="yes", thing is I want the whole row to change color if one cell has any input on it. so if I type anything on A1, I want the whole row A to turn green, is that possible? thank you beforehand 🙏
Is it possible to have conditional formatting based on if the text in the cell is the same as the text in a cell in another row? For example, have a sheet with 3 columns with different text in every cell and then in another sheet have a cell be: - red if the text in the cell is also in a cell in column A - yellow if the text in the cell is also in a cell in column B - green if the text in the cell is also in a cell in column C?
Hi yes this is possible. You can create a rule from a formula for conditional formatting in google sheets in the same way as excel. Look at my recent video excel conditional format for an entire row & it will help you understand the concept
I am trying to come up with a formula in google sheets to do something specific. Would you be interested in helping me? Basically I created a drag racing bracket. 2 competitors are set up in 2 columns where the stats of the race are displayed. (Reaction Time, Holeshot, Speed, ET) Currently the Winner is indicated by the last rows in each column and the conditional formatting I have set-up turns the cell green if the cell has a lower ET number than the other competitor's column. I want to have the formula see which column is the winner and then take 1 cell of that column (the persons name) and populate another cell on the bracket (to show the winner advanced). I can show you specifically how I have it now if you are interested...thanks for your time...
Hi if it’s a quick 2 min help I can do that but this seems like longer, I could look maybe but would have to charge at my consulting rate. If interested you can email me on david@xlconsulting-asia.com
Hello ,What I need to do is have a cell automatically change colors at different time period before today. For example, yellow at 30 days in the future, light red at 14 days in the future, then dark red at 7 days in the future. Can you help me with that? Thanks.
Hi. In excel this is easy. Select the cell (s) & choose conditional formatting > highlight cell rules > a date occurring. In Google sheets you will need to write a custom formula that returns a value such as =cell/7, then set up conditional format rules for less than 2=x, less than 4=years etc.
Legit the only video that I've found to explain conditional formatting rules for a whole row or column. Great and clear instructions my man!
That is so kind! Thanks for the compliments, I'm glad you like my explanations :)
Best video I've seen about conditioning. Thank you!
That is very kind! Glad you liked my approach :)
Thank you much! I’m making a spreadsheet for a book club and this is exactly what I needed ^-^
Glad it was helpful! Nice
OMG THIS IS SO COOL. I've been wanting to learn how to do this for a while now. Thank you so much 🙏😃
Im so glad you liked it! I have another one on structured tables a new g sheets feature that is an enhancement of this!
Great stuff!. Great tutorial :)) Many thanks.
Good Morning
The color disappeared from my Google Sheet, what did I do wrong?
Yay! Glad you liked it

This video shows how! It’s in excel but the same custom formula in google also works!
Great tutorial :)) Many thanks

You need to be comfortable with using $ in formulas for it to work well though

Hi, its hard to say. If it is conditional formatting, go to Format > Conditional formatting and check, otherwise Im not sure
