Beautiful stuff Joey! You maximized every bit out of this camera / lens combo. Such great details and texture with all the practicals. Story / sound design was also on point.
The man the myth the legend, means a lot coming from the documentary master himself! Thank you for taking the time to share these kind words. Means a lot brother! 🙏🏼
You missed a great opportunity with that out of service tag for the title Good Sir. The meaning and the red stands out to me. Him walking away in a long shot with focus still on the tag...ada, yada, yada.
Thank you very much! Means a lot! I’ve thought of putting some course work together but there’s so many great options out there that I haven’t. But I’m always open to answering any questions!
Thank you very much! Means a lot! Yeah the vertical flaring is because I used some cheap diopters for the close ups and macro shots. Having the extra glass in front is the culprit!
Incredible shots man, truly incredible, and the color grading is *MWAH* , this looks very cinematic, the BMCC 6K is a BEAST.... Is this shot at 24fps and 1/48th???
Thank you so much my friend! Means a ton! Really appreciate all your kind words! Yes the BMCC 6k does a lot of heavy lifting! it's really a great camera! This was indeed shot at 24fps and 180 degree shutter angle which is the equivalent of 1/48th.
This is fantastic! It looks amazing! For someone with an fx30, would you recommend the 45mm or 35mm Blazar Remus? I’m trying to get away with just using one lens.
Thank you for your kind words! means a lot! With the fx30 I think you'd find the 35mm better in many ways. To me it looks better, but you also have way more of the "swimming" or better called "fishbowl" effect. The distortion on the edges is wild! The advantage of the 45mm is that it crops in the field of view so you wouldn't see as much distortion. If you get the 35mm you'll definitely need some lens correction in post.
Thank you tons my friend! Means a lot! So I own the s35 35mm but this was shot on the FF 45mm Remus lens. I shot 6k resolution, open gate on the 6k. I wish the 6k allowed you to desqueeze in monitor but I just use an external monitor for that.
I'm curious how you color graded it and got that look with available light. I'm sure it's white light coming in. Did you just push your highlights over to the blues (simplified) to get the blue and orange look? You obviously had a lot of tungsten naturally in the room it seems.
Yeah that’s essentially the way it went in the grade. There was a heavy amount of tungsten inside. Running at warm 2700k. So I put the camera white balance at around 3500k for the exterior to have a stronger blue push. Then in post I pushed the warm/cool tone contrast and that’s what I ended up with.
Wow one of the best footage from Blazar. Still can't what to get Blazar Nero adapter for my set of vintage lenses or one Blazar Remus 45. But from what i've seen - Remus is better in terms of distortion/softness/oldschool anamorphic feel like from LOMO anamorphic.
Thank you for watching and for you kind words! Means a lot! Yes the Remus lenses are very special! The cost + the image is a lot of bang for buck! Looking forward to seeing what you create. Which vintage lenses will you be using with the adapter?
@@storylitfilms Standart set of classic soviet lenses from my grandpa - helios/mir/jupiters and some Nikkors AI-S. But from what ive seen even with vintage lenses like helios + blazar Nero the distortion on the edges and the "look" is a litle bit cleaner and more modern then from a Remus. Maybe you had experience with adapters such as Aivascope/Nero? I just don't understand how there can be such a difference if Remus is a combo of Nero adapter (front element) and a regular lens from Blazar which in theory should be very soft and look like something vintage
That’s two great vintage lens sets! Cool that it came from family too. Makes it even more special! I haven’t tried those scopes. Only scope I’ve ever used is the Schneider cinelux, I really liked it but the set up was cumbersome, so I sold it a while back. Yeah Remus has a nice little secret sauce. There’s quite a bit of distortion on the 35mm s35 but the 45mm has way less. I haven’t tried their 65mm but I heard it’s a favorite in the set.
Hey hey! For this project it was the ambient light + an aperture mc to wrap the light on talent. I also used blackout curtains to block unwanted spill!
Nice , that s why i like shooters from traditional background. Where s camera fanboys ?!?! A man who use his brain and hand!!!!! Show us your work then!!!!!!

The editing is out of this world!

Absolutely incredible work all-around! The Blazar Remus are S35 anamorphic lenses, so at what resolution did you shoot?

I used the silver, im a big fan of silvers across all anamorphic lenses.

What was your lighting setup for this short film? Lightmat and tubes?
Ok. I've found an answer in previous video. (:
Hey hey! For this project it was the ambient light + an aperture mc to wrap the light on talent. I also used blackout curtains to block unwanted spill!
This is amazing! Great work! Did you use any diopters for the close up shots with the remus ?
Thank you! Means a lot! 🙏🏼 I did indeed use some cheap diopters to get the close focus and macro shots. They’re cheap but they got the job done.

What lutz are you using
Hey there! This grade was a blend of various things. But I often like to use Juan Meleras film unlimited lower grade.
Beginning sound like an episode of Fallout 😂😂😂
Ahhhh yes! Hahah I do love fallout!
you use 45mm only ???
Yeah! Just the 45mm on this with a +4 diopter and in one or two shots a +10 diopter
