Minecraft content creator SMPs have been a HUGE part of the Minecraft community, but what makes each of them so special? In this video, I talk about a lot of Minecraft SMPs that we love and are highly known! I'm a big fan of LDShadowLady and smallishbeans, so I watched all of the series that they were in. My favorites being x life, empires, and this wasn't mentioned but it is similar to empires, Kingdomcraft

I love the recognition for EVO, it was such an interesting concept and I remember being sad yet so excited when grian left to join hermitcraft as it was when grian properly started to blow up and I was happy he was getting the recognition he deserved. I started watching back in 2016 when he would post rustic house tutorials and hypixel build battle videos and Evo was so interesting to me because there were so many UA-camrs I also watched like bigb, Martyn etc. And now grian is one of the top mcyts around

Hermitcraft season 7 was such a blast... They added lore along the way, while maintaining natural non scripted story lines and gameplay.. That's why it's my favourite and best in my opinion!

Hermit craft: it's fun to watch all the projects and pranks
3rd/last life: the competition is really intense
X life: I love myself some modded Minecraft
Empires smp: my favourite smp. It has the awesome builds and unexpected lore and twists
My favorite SMPs are most certainly Hermitcraft and 3rd life/lastlife, as those are the only ones I actively watch.
I _was_ a dsmp fan way back during the festival arc, but gradually lost interest, and was severely uncomfortable with certain characters in the exiled arc and egg arc, so eventually i pretty much fully left, though i do still listen to fan-songs.
Empires smp looks interesting though... I'll have to give that one a shot. Great video!
3rd life/last life has some crazy lore and narrative for a non scripted series

I still need to watch Martyn and Rendog's POVs because they're the only one actually doing roleplay stuff _(which isn't to say their series is properly scripted either; Martyn has stated that like half of the storyline he'd prepared last season went out the window because people died too fast lol, and that he often only came up with lore edits to scenes during his editing process),_ but for the rest the lore just comes about naturally from playing the game, and I just think thats neat.

I don't really watch minecraft UA-cam, just Lizzie and Joel who I've followed since 2014, but around ep 3 of last life I noticed so many interesting things were happening and I decided to watch all 17 povs, best decision ever, I really fell in love with everyone's sense of humor and dynamics and I know I won't be able to get enough now

My favourite was Empires smp for a reason was its history is just more than that and its a role play series which means they have to like play pretend for example scott aka king of rivendelle was the brother of the demon but not really in real life i-its just pretend its not real :)

i also liked that jimmy (solidarity gaming) pointed out that him being bullied is ok. i really appreciated the maturity shown by the people on their crew. most of the empires smp members are adults already. dream smp, its run by some teenagers, which im not a fan of some of their mischiefs.
i started watching pixlriffs, since he is my minecraft mentor. i do watch lizzie's, but its heavily edited and cut out that i don't follow the story at all. i prefer joel's videos and mythical sausage, they are so entertaining, i can repeat their videos from time to time.

Im kinda sad that SMP Live wasnt even mentioned. I think it had alot of influence on Dream SMP and was very different from all SMPs that came before it
Fun fact: One Life SMP was a predecessor to X-life SMP. After 3 seasons of One Life, the players got bored of the rules so they changed it up. So one life became 10 lives.
They also made a new installment about 4 months ago,The Afterlife smp which ended about a month ago
Loved OneLife! I remember getting excited about watching all the perspectives on the season 2 purge.

As someone who has watched fWhip for a long time, Empires has got to be my favorite. If you know his singleplayer worlds (especially the one he started in 1.13) you'll know that he loves to have a lore behind everything he builds. Like, each resource comes from a different location, each village/town is specialised in something, having a road network across his whole world to each point of interest, ... By starting Empires, with each Empire having some special resource only they can produce on mass and not having a central shopping area so that trade between the Empires would be necessary, fWhip basically brought his singleplayer style to multiplayer

Personally, the SMP that pretty much kickstarted my love for Minecraft and gaming in general was Mianite. I have SO many good memories from watching it during high school as each episode came out. I also have to credit Mianite for getting me so into Hermitcraft, or else I would never have thought to search for more SMP’s to follow along with on UA-cam 🥺
It was actually one of the first minecraft videos I ever watched captain sparkles is a good ol classic, he can't ever get old

Why does everyone hate on dream? Like yeah, he cheated in some speedruns, and some members of his community are obnoxious, but there still seems to be disproportional hate towards him
@@niphraz6079 its mostly a hate boner that comes out of the hate for his stans, the fact that he cheated just added more salt/fuel to it, but he's really not as bad as people say he is
@@niphraz6079 I agree, he doesn't deserve most of the hate he gets, but a large portion of his community is horrible. The stan culture is tarnishing the minecraft community and it's starting to carry over to other creaters as well.
My favourites are definitely Xlife and Empires! Something about this server is really comforting for me since I've been watching them now for years and they never disappoint in any aspect!

Personally only watch HermitCraft and 3rd/Last Life, but I do wanna check out Shady Oaks now that you've mentioned it. Do kinda wanna get into Empires for the lore but I do also feel that it's not my cup of tea. Guess I'll find out someday lol

Empires is pretty lore heavy but there are also ccs in empires who dont participate in it / are just in it do do amazing builds like smallishbeans. everyone also has a different kind of storytelling elements to their videos so maybe rp might not be your cuppa but i do highly recommend it if you want a server chalk full of amazing builders
Dream Smp is certainly on the favorites list and holds a special place in my heart. I still hold out hope for it to get its second wind, but regardless I have been watch a lot of Hermitcraft and all of 3rd/Last Life. I am currently poking around Empire Smp to see if they can hook me.
this has been really helpful!! I've been wanting to get into watching Hermitcraft, because I grew up watching LDShadowlady and her often-played with group- for example, Orionsound, SeaPeaKay, Smallishbeans, Dangthatsalongname- in their Crazy Craft series, and in One life, Kingdomcraft, X Life, and the likes.
After Empires I got introduced to a bunch of new content creators (many of whom were in X Life, and later on 3rd/Last Life, but seeing as there were so many people and so little interactions between them all, I hadn't seen much of them) and I've started branching out and watching their series, and both GeminiTay and PearlescentMoon are in Hermitcraft, along with Grian- and Solidarity's in Etho, and I've also heard of Legacy, but I didn't know much about it, so it's cool to see more information on those!!

Hi! I loved seeing some SMPs I've never heard of, but I noticed that some of the ones I loved back in the day weren't mentioned. I've love to see you cover the Mianite SMP and How To Minecraft (and its evolutions)! PeteZaHutt was on How To Minecraft and I ended up rediscovering him on twitch a year or so ago through MC Championship. From there I got introduced to Hermitcraft, and the rest was history! Thank you for the wonderful video :)

After this video was released, gnembon (discussed in the scicraft section) was even hired by mojang. Given his knowledge of game mechanics and the fact that he created carpet mod, I can't wait to see what this means for the game.

My favorite minecraft smp's are Hermitcraft, Last life/3rd life, and Dream Smp! hermitcraft was my very first minecraft smp that i watched. Last life is absolutely amazing, i might even prefer it over hermitcraft. I love the story in the dream smp but the fanbase is uh... interesting. I love your videos and keep up the good work!

I really think you should discuss the Decidedly Vanilla SMP. It spawned so many content creators who currently are/were in X Life, Empires, and Legacy, for example, Pixlriffs, FWhip, and MythicalSausage.
My favorites are 3rd life and Last Life. I personally think that those two are more interesting than almost any show I've ever watched.
Like it or hate it, SMPlive was probably one of the most important for minecrafts resurgence in popularity.

Gread vids, its so nostalgic to see how far many smps has gone as well as looking back at finished smps. The minecraft community has gone a long way and im proud to say that ive been a member since long ago.
It's nice how people draw grian fanart for smps like hermitcraft and 3rd/last life with watcher wings as a reference to evo

Hermitcraft is my personal fav, but I have huge respect for the guys at SciCraft.
I love Dream, but Dream SMP feels to scripted.! Empires does not feel scripted, but simply loses out to Hermitcraft over all, thou it is fun to look over the builds.
Last Life is great, but I can't get fully into it.
If I were to check out some of those haven't watched yet it would probably be Vault Hunters.
My Favorite SMP in order 1) Hermitcraft 2) X Life 3) 3rd Life/Last Life 4) Empires. And yes, I watch them all!
X life was definitely my favourite smp and i’ve rewatched it about 6 times mainly Scott’s perspective but also people like lizzie and shubble, but now empires is really taking over my heart...

honestly just found your channel 15 minutes ago and youre extremely underrated. im actually shocked that youre not over 50k subs! also, my personal favorite is hermitcraft, its the only one which ive been watching for a while and i actually find interesting. i do enjoy last life/third life but that series will probably end soon.. the dream smp is also a notable one, but like most people, it just got kinda boring and seems less lively and exciting than it used to be. i also dont really find the humor funny anymore.
This was a very interesting video! I have played Minecraft for years now, but rarely watched any series related to it... some of the SMPs mentioned in this video are very interesting and I'm very curious to check them out! A part 2 (as I'm reading the pinned comment right now) would be highly appreciated, maybe with less known SMPs to give them more visibility ^-^

A bit of a shame SMP Live wasn’t mentioned. I always thought SMP Live was what kicked off the modern trend of content creator SMPs and was a big part of the reason behind Minecrafts resurgence in popularity. Although i could be wrong since i didn’t hear about it until after the SMP ended
Incorrect Last life is the One that is the youngest empire smp started like three months ago
I considered Last Life as a continuation series to 3rd Life, which is why I didn’t call it the most recently created SMP on the list
You forgot the two main things of empires, not your fault though, this chose is already so great and had to include some much info.
1. Everyone has to build to a theme, and in a biome of their own, which will be the kingdom (you forgot the biome part, it's the most important)....
2. They can only make certain farms in their empire, they're not allowed to take over (by making automatic farms) other empires resources. This one isn't followed much strictly tho. (Pixl made a gunpowder farm, fwip made a dripstone farm recently, so they both made farms of each others empire)
I like that the documentary exists, but maybe it could be reorganized to show the geneology of content creators, or the different phases that mcyt went through (such as Minecrack and early HC being more of a Let's play, which evolved to building/technical showcase series like current-HC, Empires or Scicraft, the boom and dying out of modded MC before Mojang was bought and revamped by Microsoft and the community had to make new features for themselves, and the more back-to-basics metaverse-like content of 3rd-life/last life and the dsmp).

Nice video Sodio, very informative for a person like me who only watches/have head of very few of these.
The first SMP that caught my attention is Empires, and it started gaining my interest in Minecraft, and after that LastLife SMP started, I saw it from PealescentMoon, LDShadowLady and Smallishbeans. This make me started to know more Minecraft UA-camrs like Grian, Mumbo, Scar, Ren and more, and it let me gain more interest in Hermitcraft from Pearl and Geminitay. These SMP, Empires, 3rdLife/LastLife and Hermitcraft are the SMP I like the most.
There’s another smp that is not well known but is as lore filled as the dream smp and empires smp. It’s called the outsiders smp and it is based off of the maze runner book series. It follows a group of people trying to escape a giant maze. It is full of drama and amazing acting. Totally check it out!

My favorite was SMP Live which I was kinda disappointed that you didn't mention since it was kinda the server that resurrected minecraft and also had many of the now dream smp members on it

It's amazing to see how the life series, hermitcraft and many more serves have come this far! I remember starting Hermitcraft once Grian joined it and I've been watching it ever since!
I used to watch Dsmp but the lore got heavy and I stopped being active on streams. Then it came to a solid end. HC, 3rd life (& last life), empires are my favs now. I have seen a bit of the old smps that Joel and Lizz have been on (x life, crazy craft etc) , and I plan on binge watching those later after my exams... Because I became a part of this awesome mc community in July 2020, I haven't had a chance to see these og servers that I might enjoy.. Especially now that I like watching most povs (actually ALL povs) on empires, so might as well check out that golden content of the past =)
Wait DSMP lore ended or did the server end? Cause from what I remember there's still Wilbur, Dream, Quackity, The Egg and so many more loose threads to tie up.

I was actually looking for it when I saw this video and noticed that no one mentioned it! I was looking for that and Mianite, those were the days. :)
My favorite SMPs are Hermitcraft, Empires, Evo, Legacy (1 & 2), 3rd Life and Last Life. And don't forget the precursor to Legacy - - - - Source Block.
I started with Evo because I was watching Grian, then followed him to Hermitcraft. And I followed Avomance to Source Block, after which I found out I really liked a lot of the players in those series and have subscribed to them. Outside of Hermitcraft, which is my favorite, I watch all of the Empires episodes when they are released. ALL HAIL BLOOD SHEEP!!

I love Empires because it is the SMP that really made me such a good builder, I take every detail from their builds. Also it was the first SMP I ever watched
i absolutley love the dsmp,last life,empires smp, x life etc. Ive watched mcyts since i know about the internet, one of the first mcyts i watched was ldshadowlady, and i still watch her today. i still watch mcyts ALOT,both the ogs and the newer gen
Greta video, if you ever make a part two, I’d recommend adding DadCraft which is an SMP on twitch featuring people like Sips from Yogscast, PauseunPause from Mindcrack and other popular streamers!
Empires, Hermitcraft, Last life and two old one's One life and Crazy craft were my absolute favourites
Smallish Beans got me back into Minecraft videos, even as a college student. Would highly recommend checking out his Empire

X Life 3rd and Life Last Life we're the child of also a popular series years ago called *ONE LIFE* it consists of 3 season with popular minecraft youtuber such as *LDShadowLady, Smallishbeans, Shubble, StacyPlays, Dangthatsalongname(Smajor), JoeyGraceffa and many more*
I know I’m pretty late and all BUT How To Minecraft was my childhood with so many wellknown youtubers like vikk, woofless, preston, jerome, etc.
You can't forget about the Life Steal SMP, an SMP that's effectively a mix of Last Life and Hermitcraft. If a person kills another person, they steal a heart from said person, and if you lose all of your hearts, its game over. However, there's also a pranking element in it.
I’m a mother of a fan of SMPs. I finally understood the universe. The kid gets mad because I don’t get it but now I can actually enjoy it. Thank you.
One smp that’s super u defeated with lots of story is origins smp, I suggest this to anyone who’s interested in lore and storys it is based off of maze runners

My favorite smps definitley have to be:
1: Dream SMP. I love the different povs of the lore, and I love how scripted it is :D
2: Hermitcraft. I created my own smp based off of it I love it so much.
3: 3rd life/last life. I just discovered it, and I'm obsessed.
4: SmpEarth. I really only watch Technoblades pov but that was a great smp

I swear everyone loves last life, it’s so good, as a Scott Stan I’ve had flower husbands and gaslight gatekeep girboss (the beloved trio) but I’m just a smajor Stan in general so any smp he’s on I love, I started liking him after x life (although I did watch some of lizzies bc I’ve liked her for literally years) and would’ve enjoyed that too 🤩

Wanted to make some SMPs on my own. Just one to work out. Nobody joins mine, and when I join others they end up just as I almost finish my giant projects (Usually castles, ships, flying islands and ksometimes hybrids of those. Also crazy farms but giving them op Items just make them less commited to play any longer)
Theres this smaller smp called Echocraft i found through Rekrap, theres a bunch of smaller creators on it and a lot of them have this amazing and entertaining editing style
I've watched most of these SMPs and I'm so happy as the years fo by and my favourite communities play together on SMPs. I was ecstatic when Gem and Fwhip became good friends and started playing together and when Fem joined hermitcraft. Though I think its a wee bit unfair to compare the playstyle of empires smp to that of hermitcraft, yeah there are similarities but they're both entirely different from one another in the actual focus and style of the SMP
