- Home inspection with a builder that has been very difficult to do needed repairs. #construction #homeinspection #realestate #home #plumbing #electrician #airconditioner #newhomebuild
Wooow. It's both saddening and frustrating how frequent and widespread poor quality is
Totally agree
I absolutely agree. Is a typical day for us lately the last 4-5 years. Is sad
As long as people continue to buy them, the builders will continue slipping.
@@waynec369 yep. 100%
I respect your attention to detail!
@@bendayhoe thank you. Appreciate and love the feedback and comments.
I’m old enough to remember when “made in America” & “American craftsmanship” meant something.
I kept the dryer drum belt I changed on my 20+ year old dryer for one reason: It's marked "Made in U.S.A." The new one? China.
Unfortunately, most homes in the Southwest are made in America by Mexican nationals that don’t know what they are doing.
@@Jaded7981 same here. Sad we just can’t find that anymore.
People wonder why so much is now being produced abroad! Made in the USA used to be a hallmark, sadly, not so much anymore.
We can’t even manage to install with quality
Almost as if we continually flooded the market with cheaper and cheaper labor forces or something.
I'm glad that both of the houses I own are very old. One is the family farm house, that my aunt lives in, and was built in the 30's. My house is old Navy housing from thw 50's. They're both built strong enough to survive a damn tornado. I even put copper roofs on them.
My great grandmother's old house is even a crazy step above that. It was built in the late 1800's out of American Chestnut. You could probably put another house on top of that house, and it would be just fine. We've caught people trying to steal wood off of the house, as American Chestnut is basically extinct now.
@@BeardMan01 the good ol days!!
Quality workmanship starts with good mentoring, experience in the field, work ethic, and pride in your work. Unfortunately time lines, budget and lack help hinder this greatly.
100%
As a commercial General Contractor I can tell you that this superintendent is either way overloaded, or never checks on the work being done u see his watch. Sunoco tractors will always default to the lowest allowable standard. Clearly we see the standard that this GC is allowing.
A huge problem is that the builders pay the subs so little that, a) no decent subs will take the job. b)they are cranking them out so fast there is no time to do it properly. Hurry up and get out of here. c) The building department is corrupt and paid of by the developers
@@markabbott2281 subs definitely need to be supervising and training their workers.
Wow, that’s really sad. It begs the question of what the build quality is you can’t see.
For as much as these new homes cost, it’s frustrating they can’t build them right anymore.
@@andybub45 100%. There must be an improvement in quality of workmanship.
If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when do you.
100%
OH MY GOD!!! Why is it so hard to just take the time and do your job right. Come on people. Stop cutting corners because it just costs you more money in the long run. Just do your job. Scabs.
You are so right. They will never learn.
Trades that are unregulated, straight up don’t have licences or any certification. It’s sight we’re seeing more of these days with the ongoing skilled labour shortage. Same things is happening this side of the pond.
@@Smitty19966 The general contractor is responsible for all work done on the project. If they hire unlicensed contractors, they are liable for any issues just like when they hire legit contractors. If your builder is blaming subs for issues and deflecting blame, get a new GC.
You get what you pay for. GC's love to demand S tier work while paying for nothing. A lot of these defects could have been missed in the work scope but the GC refused to pay for the change order and brought in a trunk slammer. Not to entirely lay the blame on GC's.. but when the damage is out in the open like this, and they didn't call the contractors back demanding repairs, well.. it paints a picture.
This is the american dream only cost is half a million to a million dollars
@@forsakensavior7316 quantity over quantity.
My shower is showing the same on the base board near it, house is just 2 years old, out of warranty, what should I do?
@@WhosColin I would still file a claim with the builder and cross fingers.
The GC hires subs who hire people who do not know the first thing about home building. All the trades are staggering when it comes to hiring good help. Good help is just not out there.
Even when they find good help, they don’t train them right.
Im curious. Will expose lath make your house crumble? Or it’s just unpleasant to the eye to see expose lath?
It's quite similar to having chips in the paint of a brand new car. There may only be a few chips but by exposing steel body panel (lath) it'll immediately start to rust and the paint (stucco) around the exposed point will degrade 50x faster than if it had been done right.
@@JohnKleinPE but if the exposed lath is painted. Which it always appears to be because they paint afterwords. Then it’s just an eyesore? But you’re right. If not painted. It’ll rust and leave stains. I see that in everyone of his videos. Now my next question is. What is going wrong with so many house with these issues. Oh yeah! Builders only care about money on their pocket and literally will hire the cheapest labor while charging the client premium dough.
It’s also considerably sharper than stucco if someone is running/walking by and bumps against it. Some of these family homes house children.
It won’t have any real effect on the home but it’s still incorrect. Think of it like two pieces of base meeting in the corner and one being 1/4” higher. Eyesore that goes to overall feel of quality or not.
Damn think the same guy built my house having a hard time getting my warenty work done as well
@@whiterhinooutdoors4572 file those complaints. Don’t wait.
@@GoodLookHomeInspection I’ve called him how do you go beyond that what else can I do I just keep Geri the run round
People talking about how stuff should be done that they have never done the way it should be done
,,,,,,,,,
hilarious they still call it lath even though i see small strips of metal poking out.
i worked on a few tudor era buildings back in the day, the modern day counterpart may have the same function, but they are not the same thing.
It is commonly referred to as "wire lath."
@@frankryan2505 common terminology over here.
If you want it done right... then do it illegally
I think it is, but still wrong
Who buys a house built with stucco anymore?…lol
Synthetic stucco is pretty common in the Southwest on new home. Plus re-stuccoing is big business for older homes.
I’ve always felt to be an inspector shouldn’t you have at least a few years of in the field experience in the trade you’re supposedly inspecting?
@@MK-xl9tt I would expect the same. There are some many that have never even held a hammer.
Let me guess, it’s a multi million dollar company that is puking out this garbage.
@@JoeFabeets sad but true in many cases.
Another slapped-together new home that's actually far worse than a new mobile home.
That’s saying a lot!!!
Not made by " Americans ". Made by the dollar.
True story
Same old low bid don’t give crap slop work !!!
Yep
hack job
@@hempcacaogoji831 sadly
Horrible workmanship.
I won't use inspections, either you want the house or not. There are plenty of buyers standing in line. Not homes.
What do you say when the bank needs to inspect? You only sell to cash buyers with more money than brains? Something doesn't make sense in your statement.
@daletrizzino9639 I said I don't use inspectors. If you want to waste your money, fine. It still won't affect the sale on my end. I just move on to the next buyer.
@@daviddiehl-gy2sq How does that satisfy the banks? I've never heard of anyone making a .5 million dollar cash purchase without one. I totally agree that some are idiots. I had an inspector (lady) who wanted a roofer to inspect because she wouldn't go up a ladder (that I brought)!! She is still working!
@daletrizzino9639 The buyer pays for the inspection out of their pocket. If the find stuff they want fixed before they will buy it. They can go elsewhere to buy a house.
I have had inspectors come out while building and had them arrested for trespassing. Especially since I belong to the Above Code group.
@@daviddiehl-gy2sq I understand now, and am the same way. If something doesn't pass inspection of course it's done. I had an idiot want an exterior door swing changed. I said "what about the light switches being on the other side then?" They said " oh yeah, switch those". When you do a good job you can tell a buyer to FO. Have a great 4th with family and friends.
