  • Semiconductors (sometimes referred to as integrated circuits (ICs) or microchips) are present in an infinite number of devices that make modern life possible. The chips themselves are cheap, but the process to produce a chip is complex and expensive. Over the next decade, over 100,000 technicians and engineers will be needed in the U.S. to keep up with the national demand of semiconductors. A massive and sustained investment in workforce development program is needed now, to ensure this critical resource will keep pace with the investment in semiconductor manufacturing.

The largest engineering college ever in the top 5, Purdue Engineering anchors Purdue University as the “Cradle of Astronauts,” from College alumni Neil Armstrong to the first female commercial astronaut. Other trailblazers include Amelia Earhart, 7 National Medal of Technology and Innovation recipients, and 9 National Academy of Inventors Fellows. Our agricultural and biological engineering programs ranked No. 1 for more than a decade, and the College houses the world’s largest academic propulsion lab and the nation’s first all-digital nuclear reactor.
