  • I've been impressed with the Barebones Hori Hori knife since the day I got it. It's one of the toughest well built Hori Hori's I have ever had. I made a comment about how I think the Hori Hori could be used as a good survival type all around knife. Well I decided to try and really put this to the test and see what the capabilities of this little garden knife really are. I want to do a few more test with it but I was pretty darn impressed with how much it handled during this day.

    This is a neat tool, I'm ordering one to use for digging shallow holes for metal detecting.

      It's actually a little sharp on the inside of the curve so it can be used to cut cordage too.

    Great survival video! I have a survival tip for bears. If you ever get attacked by a bear the best thing to do is to run down a steep hill. Bears have a very hard time running down hills. If you can find a hill you just my get away.

    • @Citystead
      @Citystead  4 роки тому

      That's interesting for sure, although I hope I never see a bear 😂

      You've never seen a black bear run down a hill...and if you are being attacked by a bear you are probably never going to make it to a hill anyway. Not sure what the bears are like in your neck of the woods, but here they can run up a pine tree faster than you can run down a hill.

    Nice little test. I find these kind of videos interesting and would watch them. Alone was one of our favorites when we had one of them there TV things in the big city. Haha! I hadn't seen any of your videos pop up in my feed for awhile and found that the notification bell for your channel had been mysteriously turned off. Clicked it again.

      Alone is great, we do most of our watching now that it's to cold to do stuff outside I mean it was a balmy 14 last night. Probably better for you they weren't popping up since I'm doing the vlogmas thing 😂

    I enjoyed the video. I was surprised at how strong it seems to be. It didn’t look like the chopping put dents or nicks in it. Keep the videos coming! Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍😁❤️

    I've had to carry one for work, they're a great option instead of a large fix blade knife if you're likely to dig for something more than cut something down. If you know which plants have edible roots in your area. Or if you simply need to dig a cat hole. You can also eat with one (carefully) if you forget your silverware.

    Nick job! I especially liked the Morgan Gold clip. 😄 On a more serious note, because it is made of cast metal it's probably a good idea to keep that in mind so folks don't break it by using it inappropriately. I wonder if they would sponsor you to see what all it is made of, as in what it is really capable of safely. I'm in for that having one here. My only thing is I wish it were forged and not cast metal. It would cost more but the end tool would be one that would outlast this version for those who used it all the time.
    A test idea I think people might be interested in seeing. Digging out tough rooted plants. Grasses, some perennials, shrubs and trees can be a bear to dig out, and a sharpbshovel isn't always the best option in some cases.

    • @Citystead
      @Citystead  4 роки тому

      This is true but part of what I want to do is see just how far this cast blade will go. I mean a little extra money for very high quality tools is always worth it. Some good ideas, wonder if I can try any before the ground freezes

    Maybe see if you can bolt in a slightly longer handle with a pommel where the current bolt is loose? Longer handle may be useful for chopping or digging deeper holes. Could even make a spear out of it.

    I never knew a hori hori had so many parts, but I am thinking it would be a wise investment in the future. I like the multiple features it has. Have you tried just this one brand, or do you have a particular favorite company you deal with? I enjoyed this video!

  • @backyardtropicals1157

    That’s incredible! Mine isn’t so sturdy. It came with the blade loose, and the screw didn’t work to tighten it. The whole piece of metal on top of the handle just rotated when we tried to tighten the screw. Also, I’ve chopped into some dead oak a little bit, and some other softer things, and the wooden handle is splitting. 😢

    • @backyardtropicals1157
      @backyardtropicals1157 10 місяців тому +1

      We figured out that the screw to tighten it was "sticking" not all the way screwed in, so finally it was dislodged by banging it on the ground with the blade pointing up so it could be be screwed in all the way. It was nice and tight then, but the handle had already cracked because it was loose, so we took it back. If it had been tight the handle wouldn't have cracked we think.

    • @The_RC_Guru
      @The_RC_Guru 10 місяців тому

      @@backyardtropicals1157 I got mine in. Handle and screw are plenty tight. I took the screw out anyways and chased the threads then used loctite. The blade side is about as sharp as Joe Biden but I’m a knife sharpener too so to the stones it went. I fixed the edge so it’s a proper scandi grind not a false scandi with a secondary edge. The entire thing is el cheapo so I’m cancelling my bespoke sub. Looked through all their boxes and unfortunately they all look pretty lacking for the monthly $58 shipped box. I gave it a shot though.

      Well the Hori Hori is the closest thing we have to a full functioning multi tool that can be carried around as far as I know, but a gardening multi tool in a full shovel form with detachable sections that are all different hand tools would be neat
