Far Cry 4 Review

- My fully fledged video game Review for Ubisoft's latest title. Far Cry 4.
Through helicopters, elephants and tigers, there is a ridiculous amount of fun to be had within its gameplay. But how does it all tie together?
Has to be said I'm absolutely frikkin' loving it! I seem to be in a minority that I didn't want them to stray too far from Far Cry 3, but to build on it. And they have absolutely succeeded, the new helicopter is great, so is the ability to drive and shoot and I think the mortar is a thing of beauty! What I also really liked which a lot of people have moaned about is Far Cry 3's guns being in this game, I actually went out and leveled up Karma just to get the Shredder.
I'm an odd player, I don't like to be led by the nose from story point to story point or set piece to set piece, I like to be dumped out in a game world and just be allowed to explore and wander and bugger about, there are very few games like that, and even fewer that do it really well like Fallout 3 or Skyrim and Far Cry 3, it came as a massive relief with Far Cry 4 that it was just 'here you go, have at it' I've spent a week at it and I've barely touched any campaign missions, I've hunted and explored, shot the fuck out of everything and noodled about in caves, torn down a shit load of posters, and zoomed around the game map hitting belltowers and dropping genades on convoys... And I'm not bored in the slightest.
Far Cry for me is a 9.5 there are little annoyances and problems but it is just about perfect.
Absolutely right, this is what its about.
As a full game, with everything considered however... it falls shy of creating for that stellar campaign/story experience.

Been a long while since I've seen a good story in a campaign, I think that Far Cry 4 only really comes together as good if you take into account the 15 minute secret ending, which is if you wait for Pagan Min to come back in the begining, he takes you to the games end and all of your actions, the deaths, the violent revolution you start all of that is avoidable.
But yeah, its hard to write a good story for an open world game, its weird that a lot of the characters in these games are very selfish and self centered just look at Watch Dogs Aiden Pearce's vigilante mission after the death of his niece is made to look utterly selfish as Nicole his sister copes with her grief while raising a son who is traumatised, Aiden's prior lifestyle led to the death of his neice and his continuing in that lifestyle poses a direct threat to his immediate family putting his sister and nephew in harms way again and causing her further stress and pain.

I found the karma events too frequent and literally every corner. It gets annoying. I also found pagin more appealing to fight for then Amita or sebal. Also, the unrealistic skills with a gun a jay has without any explanation whatsoever except the radio guy who calls it skill, was also quite annoying. I thought ubisoft could have strived for better but then again.... They're ubisoft

Yeah i agree. I really liked the game but the poor story and lack of Pagan Min were a real letdown. Also the ending was lackluster. I spent an hour after the credits roled running around wondering if there was any more story but i eventually just quit playing. 8/10 is a fair score. Good not great.

JazReviews Heh. Personally, I would enjoy seeing just what led IGN to use the excuse 'too much water'. The mascot is a whale, for god sake!

caleb slagle The point was stop trying to be realistic with these side points of fantasy. The Game wants to be taken seriously & then gives no narrative to support it. In both FarCry 3 & 4 we are suppose to believe that someone that has no clue what they are doing becomes an instant Professional just by picking up an AK. They never explained why a Rich Kid went from spoiled brat to Professional Mercenary in just a few seconds or how someone that just came to spread his mother's ashes knew how to do any of the stuff you do in game. I'm saying stop trying to make the game take itself seriously. The only time this franchise was able to do that was in FarCry 2. At least then we knew the reason why the protagonist could do what he was doing, instead of I'm a Rich Kid/Tourist who magically can now fire LMGs because I scaled a Radio Tower.
I think if you were a huge fan of far cry 3 or never played it you'll really enjoy this. I'm absolutely loving this game because i never got around to playing Far Cry 3.
i think I'm gonna get the game simply because of the co-op option, that looks like some insane fun
Thanks for your review Jaz. It pointed out what I was afraid of: I finished FarCry 3 on Xbox 360 and now that I have a powerful PC I was thinking about buying the fourth but it's kinda the same game with another story. I'm gonna wait for it to be cheaper.

What it comes down to is, Did you have fun playing the game? And even though it felt like fc3 i still had a hell of a time playing it.

Who should buy this= People who want more far cry 3 and not that much more. I was extremely happy with the game and have already spent about 36 hours onto it. So if you loved far cry 3 pick this up , but not at a full price!
I like how many reviewers harp on games like Far Cry 4 for being similar to previous games in the series but yet reviewers continue to give COD games high scores every year. They are almost the same, Advanced Warfare might finally be a change though. Either way Far Cry 4 deserves a much better score than games like COD

I'm still on a fence about this one. Played through FC3 and it was a good fun. I'm worried that this will feel more like a DLC rather than a new game.
No it is a enough of a game in itself, all content considered... It will surely be a complete blast if you enjoyed Far Cry 3 then. You may be disappointed in its story is all.

It does play alot like Far Cry 3, but all the new stuff added compensates for that

I totally agree, kind of a revamped watered down version of far cry 3....
Far Cry 4 had a better graphics and gameplay than Far Cry 3, and more weapons, vehicles and animals than Far Cry 3 too, but the story and characters felt kinda disappointed to me, compared with the story and characters of Far Cry 3.
This is another entry in the Far Cry series where by the end you really just want to play as the antagonist and kick your boring, flat, dull voiced protagonist to the curb

I enjoyed a lot Far Cry 4 but I would been better with more of Yuma, De Pleur or Pagan Min. At the same time Yogi and the other guy or Longinus, they were annoying for me and no enternaining.
I'm in the market for PCs, any recommended specs for playing Far Cry 4 on high (not all the way up to ultra) settings with say 60 fps?
I already have a PS4 and I like it but I also want to get into the PC market a little bit.

This goes about 30 dollars over budget but it's worth it. Also do you have an operating system?(windows 7,8 etc.) if you don't you need to get it. It's about 90 dollars last I checked.

Really...those fortresses wore hard for you??I was able to complete the first 2 undetected and the other 2 with no alarms rang...alone...they worent hard....if you dont engage stupidly they are easy..
Well no, but they can be particularly difficult... relatively speaking.
I found my first, De Pleur's fortress to be challenging.
JazReviews Sorry for my harsh language , for some reason i was mad at that statement but i was able to complete them so easily because the enemies in this game are brain-dead ....it was stupidly easy to sneak up on them...
