1991 NBA All Star Game

- Here's something different for a change. 1991 All Star featuring some great players from the golden era. This one probably had the weirdest ending of all All Star games.
Some quotes about the final play of the game:
====================
With three seconds to play, Kevin Johnson put up the shot.
"It felt good when it left my hands," he said. "It was definitely going in. It was the game. I was going to be a star, without a doubt."
But just as the ball arrived over the front rim, Malone leaped and tried to tap it in. He was called for offensive basket interference.
And that was probably the end of Kevin Johnson as possible MVP. That honor went to Barkley for his 17-point, 22-rebound and four-assist game. The 22 rebounds were the most in an All-Star game since Wilt Chamberlain's 22 in 1967.
"From my point of view, the shot looked like it had a great chance of going in," Magic Johnson said. "I was thinking, `Yeah, yeah, yeah. . . . What is he (Malone) doing?' I don't know what he was doing. All I know is the shot looked good. It was a perfect shot whether you win or lose on it."
"I think Karl was in disbelief about what he did," Kevin Johnson said.
"It was a weird way to end a good game," Robinson said. "I thought the shot had a good chance of going in. But it was hard for me to tell because I was going to the board for the rebound."
"I should probably have let it alone," Malone said. "But I wasn't sure if it was going in. No, I wasn't paying off any bookies in Las Vegas.
"I just wanted to run and hide after I did it."

back when all-star games r competitive and fun to watch
No better way to describe it
And it's only gotten worse
"We got to work on Dominique, he's not pumping his shoes hard enough"
This all star exhibition game is better than any REGULAR season game from todays players
I miss the 90s basketball... So star studded. The competition was fierce
I don't see MJ playing amongst plumbers, teachers and janitors. 90's was so star studded and competitive.
People forget, but Patrick Ewing was a beast. One of the greatest centers to never win a ring.
You never Ever see so many blocks in any all star games anymore ! These guys were soo much more competitive back then . MJ though just in a zone of his own.
so many spectacular moves from MJ
all of the greatest basketball players in one court just simply amazing
Said it before and I'll say it again. Karl Malone may have had better career stats and maybe better numbers during the season with Stockton feeding him. BUT I would pick Barkley any day of the week over Malone for my PF position. He's just a BEAT and 5"'s shorter than Karl. Runs the floor well and has a nice handle. Inside he just rolls through even the centers because he's like 260+. Good old days. MJ had some crazy shots this game too. This is before Ewing was a jump shooter too LMAO!
Very true. Peak Barkley is quite a bit better than peak Malone. Malone had a better career though.
@@barryjb maloney was boring to watch, Stockton too.
westy44cal It doesn’t matter who else is on the court, Barkley always stood out - he was an unstoppable force of nature.
I got Malone ahead of Chuck, with longevity, been to more finals at power forward.
Barkley > Malone
It's such a gem to found this stuff during the early first few year of UA-cam 🔥
lol "i don't run cause i get tired and i don't lift weight cause they're heavy." - charles barkley
This was the first NBA All-Star Game I ever attended...
First of all, lemme tell you something, first of all, I tell people all the time, I say. 'First of all', I love Charles Barkley! One of the most unique players & personalities ever!
Doubbbbllle clutsh form his airnis what a hangtime i love his awesome moves
Best all star game jersey EVER
Remember when you didn't have to wait until 7:30/8:30 to watch the all-star game
in the old days all-star game was so intense......wow
MJ and MAGIC was special!
0:1.18 ist not a normal hang time that dude michael jordan is a paster peace at his own circle this man is human but no one can do this stuff like this
VEGETA KING That shit is f**kin crazy what he just did. Lol
Dominique lost control due to that Jheri curl juice in his eye
AHAHHAHA
Soul Glow lol
He said Jerry curl juice. 🤔😀😁😂👍
Look at the names on these jerseys...wow!!!
What an era!!!
man, thanks for having this video, it brought back some memories and i see why those days the nba was better. they all played hard plus had love and respect for themselves (at least on court) and the game.now that i watched this game again it looks to me at the end something weird went on, im thinkin kj shot an airball, malone caught it and they called interference? and peep how they didnt have the alley-oop term yet hardaway threw robinson a dime on that play
What do they call that dunk by Dominique?, I think they call it a "spine tingler"
1 players messing around
2 someone gets cocky and piss off Jordan
3 Jordan turns an exhibition game into a war.
The 90's in a nutshell
That boinked windmill jam was Nique's very first shadowy glimpse into his athletic decline that was to slowly but surely continue from 92 until he hit the wall in 95.
When they actually played defense. But the offense was simply overpowering anyway.
Skill so much better in that era than now.
This isn't an all star game this a hall of fame game .this is why jordan i going to always be the goat to me because the amount talent that is on the court at the same time is second to none.
watching this during all star 2017. So much better.
"We gotta work on Dominique. He's not pumpin them shoes hard enough" - Charles Barkley Haha He's a fool
Dominique almost died on dat missed dunk geeeezz
Lionel Studd 😂🤣
@RAV52 Dude, this is the best collection of the players ever. I would say this was the best.
These guys were playing hard basically from the start. Nowadays at the all star games they play the last 4-6 min seriously? That ain't the way the game should be played.
@5:44 Sir Charles with a monster block on Magic
agree miss the 90's
my whole life watching david robinson i always thought he was gonna be the most dominant center of alltime... just never happened. he had everything it took physically for it to happen. i think he may have lacked that focus/"killer instict".
'Nique is a great sport about that missed dunk. These were some grown men.
I 'd say the 200's all star games were pretty good until about 2004-2005
The all star games back then were way better.
Very nice!
Fun to watch not like today's NBA all-star games
The legends! THE legends!!!
thanx a lot
30 years later,my generation pulling from half court!😊
And not playing any defense whatsoever
The reason why Michael Jordan is the GOAT, he won an MVP and a Defensive MVP award in the same year, Mamba nor the King have never done that, let alone won a Defensive MVP award. Michael Jordans accolades are also acquired during imho the hardest NBA eras in the Leagues History, 1980-2000.
1) Jordan (not even close !!!)
2) Kobe
3) Lebron
#MJistheGOAT
Pippen should have been selected in 91', and not in 90'. 17.3 PTS 7.5 REB 6.1 AST & 2.2 STL 1.1 BLK before all star break
Thorpe >> Duckworth
-What happened there Dominique?
-I ran out of film.
:))Great stuff. Ewing dunk on Robinson is nasty. Ewing and DRob would have dominated this era of weak centers.
Barkley's two handed power dunks are impossible to plagiarize.
Its crazy when comments on youtube when we get to a point when comments say 40yrs ago or even more... we at 16 now
mj should won this 91 allstar mvp
We all know that's Michael Jordan's Allstar MVP
naw they would never give away any MJ MVP for sure
17 pts, 22 rbds... That's a hell of a game for Chuck, give him credit!
Sounds about right...After that, it's been a joke. The 1980s and the 1990s had the BEST All-Star games ever.
Portland Trailblazers have 3 All-Stars in this Game but I've been told Clyde had no help in the '92 Finals....SMGDH However, this was such a beautiful Era of basketball I miss the 90's aka...The Golden Era.
youre so right!
1:17 Air Jordan......
3:10... Mike.....
Have lots of reasons why I feel that way.
You have love how these guys are really going at it. LOL at today's "look at me I get 50 spoonfeed points" players. Bunch of pansies.
The Best of the Best ..GOAT Mode Game
see how barkley wrapped up drexler for the foul @6:05... if that was lebron hed be arguing thats not a basketball play
wow what defense, even in an all star game...shows what the mentality back then was...they all wanted to win and played hard every night (even in an all star game) yet Jordan still controlled the nite and was able to get his buddy Chuck the MVP award
this is when 7 footers were actually centers. and 6'9 meant pf. IM TALKINN TO YOU DUNCAN, KG, J.O, AND THE REST OF YOU 7 FOOT TRUE CENTERS THAT WANNA BE CALLED 6'11 POWER FORWARDS FOR SOME REASON! (escpecially Duncan, i understand he was called pf cuz robinson was there but he always been a 5 and always will be a 5. only reason he kept the pf label is cuz when david left TD had 2 rings by then and was bein mentioned as best pf ever, so he kept the pf label. td's the anchor. HE'S A CENTER!)
0:50 Barkley kinda traveled there haha
When All star game was all star game😢
Just came here to say this was legendary compared to 2024 All star disaster…
I wish Isiah was playing in this game. Thomas was hurt with the breaking of the tendons in his shooting hand which caused him to miss 34 games and ultimately cost the Pistons a 3-peat.
Barkley All-Star MVP.
Oh, man - major hangtime at 4:22.
Dope body contacts 90s
Those where the best basketball days.
I was there!
@2:36 Michael just fucking with Charles
Back when the NBA was an actual sport.
That move at 1:25 !! God damn!!
If anyone has or know where to get the 1991 Legends game I'd love to watch it even if I had to buy it. I remember being a kid back then and Oscar Robertson was like 52 and other legends 35-45 .mostly and Oscar was best player on floor still. Would love to rewatch that memory of my childhood
All star games today is a trash
I agree
barkley reminds me of a half foot shorter version of kg without the shotblocking and with more 3 pointers.
I dont know man. I agree with you about DRob, his athleticism was unprecedented for a big man, but I think you're overlooking how athletic Ewing, a young Shaq and particularly Olajuwon were. Granted, Ewing was never much of a sprinter, but you ned to check old footage of Hakeem. His speed and quickness was incredible. I have no doubt he would tear the league up even today.
Shaq had some serious ups back in the day aswell, when he was more around the 290-303lbs mark. Check his rookie year.

MJ
7.00 big dunk ewing on robinson!
that's my man !!!!!!! tell'em boy "JOHN STARKS"
NEW YORK KNICKS 4 EVER !!!
Come, now. Thomas was around for the playoffs, and still the Bulls swept the Pistons in the 1991 Eastern Conference Finals. Jordan's time had come.
1:48 R.I.P Dominque Wilkins 😔🙏🕊️ Fly High
6:35 FOUL! That’s A Foul! (That’s What I Was About To Say)
best move in the game? besides Malone's tap it's gotta be that statue basket at 1:18..One of the most beautiful moves i've ever saw MJ make
@reggiemillerapimp ... shooting guard, but it was really a two-point guard alignment. In basketball, there are no discrete positions.
Hi how's it going? The video looks nice important eggnog What's happening..
Aw, 'Nique blew it hard and long on that windmill! That was amusing.
The All Star game has to be Competitive like this was. All Star game should be a statement not a joke. East should be showing the West why they are tough, West got to show the East why they are more competitive. The game should be important where there is a winning trophy for the winning team. I mean it's a game that should be able to showcase both Scoring and Defence, not just Scoring.
@fatpatlives1998 The 81 point argument is the dumbest argument in the Kobe MJ "debate". Absolutely dumb, especially since it was against the worst defensive team in the league which had so many injuries that they had the most number of 10 day contracts. It's really reaching. It's like there's nothing else so let's pull out the 81 point game ish. Here's one for ya, MJ's ppg in the playoffs is 8 points higher than Kobe's, despite having to go through the Bad Boys and the Knicks year after year.
type "short guy dunks" in the youtube search box to see a 5'5 guy dunking a 10ft hoop
well to be honest 81 points sure as hell is impressive and Kobe is more wellrounded (well he got a better 3 points shot that pretty much it that MJ didnt really have)
but kobe got 4 titles but who knows well see he aint gonna retire soon
3:43... Mike....
3:11 who likes dat jelly 🍇🍞
@jtruffles you obviously dont love the game if thats the case
See these are all star games. Not these midnight madness college hype games they call all star games now.
9:55 LOL magic
In the recent year, All-star games have become just another kind of Harlem Wizards.
2:01 oh my god...
damn jordan = basketball god
Because back then people were so stuck on the moves they were doing the refs never paid attention to what their feet were doing. This was the era where highlight reels just being to surface.
