1991 NBA All Star Game

  • Here's something different for a change. 1991 All Star featuring some great players from the golden era. This one probably had the weirdest ending of all All Star games.
Some quotes about the final play of the game:
    ====================
With three seconds to play, Kevin Johnson put up the shot.
"It felt good when it left my hands," he said. "It was definitely going in. It was the game. I was going to be a star, without a doubt."
But just as the ball arrived over the front rim, Malone leaped and tried to tap it in. He was called for offensive basket interference.
And that was probably the end of Kevin Johnson as possible MVP. That honor went to Barkley for his 17-point, 22-rebound and four-assist game. The 22 rebounds were the most in an All-Star game since Wilt Chamberlain's 22 in 1967.
"From my point of view, the shot looked like it had a great chance of going in," Magic Johnson said. "I was thinking, `Yeah, yeah, yeah. . . . What is he (Malone) doing?' I don't know what he was doing. All I know is the shot looked good. It was a perfect shot whether you win or lose on it."
"I think Karl was in disbelief about what he did," Kevin Johnson said.
"It was a weird way to end a good game," Robinson said. "I thought the shot had a good chance of going in. But it was hard for me to tell because I was going to the board for the rebound."
"I should probably have let it alone," Malone said. "But I wasn't sure if it was going in. No, I wasn't paying off any bookies in Las Vegas.
"I just wanted to run and hide after I did it."

Said it before and I'll say it again. Karl Malone may have had better career stats and maybe better numbers during the season with Stockton feeding him. BUT I would pick Barkley any day of the week over Malone for my PF position. He's just a BEAT and 5"'s shorter than Karl. Runs the floor well and has a nice handle. Inside he just rolls through even the centers because he's like 260+. Good old days. MJ had some crazy shots this game too. This is before Ewing was a jump shooter too LMAO!

The reason why Michael Jordan is the GOAT, he won an MVP and a Defensive MVP award in the same year, Mamba nor the King have never done that, let alone won a Defensive MVP award. Michael Jordans accolades are also acquired during imho the hardest NBA eras in the Leagues History, 1980-2000.
    1) Jordan (not even close !!!)
    2) Kobe
    3) Lebron

Barkley's two handed power dunks are impossible to plagiarize.

this is when 7 footers were actually centers. and 6'9 meant pf. IM TALKINN TO YOU DUNCAN, KG, J.O, AND THE REST OF YOU 7 FOOT TRUE CENTERS THAT WANNA BE CALLED 6'11 POWER FORWARDS FOR SOME REASON! (escpecially Duncan, i understand he was called pf cuz robinson was there but he always been a 5 and always will be a 5. only reason he kept the pf label is cuz when david left TD had 2 rings by then and was bein mentioned as best pf ever, so he kept the pf label. td's the anchor. HE'S A CENTER!)

I dont know man. I agree with you about DRob, his athleticism was unprecedented for a big man, but I think you're overlooking how athletic Ewing, a young Shaq and particularly Olajuwon were. Granted, Ewing was never much of a sprinter, but you ned to check old footage of Hakeem. His speed and quickness was incredible. I have no doubt he would tear the league up even today.
Shaq had some serious ups back in the day aswell, when he was more around the 290-303lbs mark. Check his rookie year.

The All Star game has to be Competitive like this was. All Star game should be a statement not a joke. East should be showing the West why they are tough, West got to show the East why they are more competitive. The game should be important where there is a winning trophy for the winning team. I mean it's a game that should be able to showcase both Scoring and Defence, not just Scoring.

@fatpatlives1998 The 81 point argument is the dumbest argument in the Kobe MJ "debate". Absolutely dumb, especially since it was against the worst defensive team in the league which had so many injuries that they had the most number of 10 day contracts. It's really reaching. It's like there's nothing else so let's pull out the 81 point game ish. Here's one for ya, MJ's ppg in the playoffs is 8 points higher than Kobe's, despite having to go through the Bad Boys and the Knicks year after year.
