Honestly, I don't think it's a stretch. As someone who has used cruelty and misanthrope to hide my own empathy, this feels accurate. Most people are known to hide behind humor or the like, but people like Larxene are constantly doing their best to throw people off from what how they truly are.
It really shows when you consider her role in the Frozen world. Sure on one angle she was just there to get in Sora's way, but in another she genuinely wanted Elsa to be able to find her own way in life without someone telling her what to do. To be honest, I was kind of on her side in that instance.
Bro Larxene calling Sora out on his bullshit was one of the most satisfying scenes in KH3. Especially since the series doesn't contradict her, either. In spite of how he abuses the Power of Waking to literally try and do as much, "You can't save everyone" is a sentiment that still remained true.
Elsa's case is very interesting from a keyblade bearer's point of view. Keyblade users are supposed to fight the darkness but maintain each individual world's order. However, what if a person becomes consumed by darkness *because* of the world's order? This is the same problem Xehanort and Eraqus' party discussed in KH dark road regarding the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, who had been filled by darkness herself. Should they stop her because of the darkness in her heart? Or will their intervention completely destroy the world's order? Arendelle had a lot of potential but unfortunately disney's guidelines made it impossible to stray from the movie's story and integrate it into the rest of the game and overall narrative.
To add onto her kickboxing stance, notice the contrast between her facial expression and her stance. Her signature smugness is on full display, and yet her body is completely closed off. One arm posed to deflect any attacks aimed at the head, the other crossed low on her body and hidden from view. She's also one of the few Organization members to stand straight, a trait only shared by Xigbar (a long range expert who prioritizes mobility over stability) and Luxord (who specializes in mind games). Even Xemnas is slightly hunched over in most fights. And between them, Xigbar looks down at his opponent, Luxord keeps his face pointed forward, while Larxene gas her chin tucked in. Having her stand tall like this while almost everyone else in the series has a lower, wider stance shows that she values being physically larger and more imposing than having a stable position. Normally this stance is used for an out fighter, using that extra range and mobility provided to avoid the opponent's punches. Thus, it can be interpretted as Larxene being unable to hide her insecurities. But consider for a moment that Larxene is notably an _in_ fighter instead. She wants to be up in people's face. Instead of taking the low, weaving stance most in fighters use, however, she has weaponized that insecurity. Her speed, stance, and tactics make it impossible to watch both hands at the same time. As such, every single exchange between her and her opponent is a 50/50. Watch the wrong hand, get a claw to the face or belly. Paired with her being primed for flicked punches like that, and it becomes clear she has the ingenuity to _force_ her nerves and anxiety onto her opponent. But don't worry. If you have a heart attack from the stess, she will _happily_ shock it back into rhythm. She'd hate to break her new toy, after all.
Watching these videos, and especially reading this comment, I find myself a bit stressed and anxious myself, about my attempts to write fight scenes for characters when I know NONE of this stuff. And since so much of it can speak to characterization, which is exactly what I value most in storytelling, I find that I want to learn this ability for myself. I just...have no idea how to actually do that. A terrifying position to be in D:
@@riluna3695 so, funny enough, I'm a writer myself. I mostly write action (often in a fantasy setting), so maybe I can help. You are right in that it can bring out a lot of characterization, but I don't think _needing_ to know this kind of stuff is necessarily important. Obviously researching it is good, but I was largely ignorant to the finer details like this as well when I started. But I did understand body language, and intent. To dissect my own comment as an example, the reason why I mentioned her stance looking closed off is to highlight how this is usually the way people stand when they are nervous or shy. Closing off the body, tilting their head away, trying to take up as little space as possible. Remove the smile, drop the upper arm so it's holding her shoulder or bicep, and you have someone who is scared, nervous, or self conscious. But if her intent is to confuse and/or disorientate, then intentionally betraying that stance with staying up in someone's face means that you're robbing them of their ability to use body language to know whats happening. So once you know how someone's intent interacts with the way they hold themselves, you've already got most of the heavy lifting done. Even if you don't understand the technical side of a fight. From there it becomes a conversation between the different combatants using this "body and intent" non-verbal comminication. Thats my philosophy, anyway. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help. I'd also be happy to give feedback on a piece of sample writing if you have any up online.
I'd say her out stance is almost a deception and tactic, using kunai in melee range she portrays a ranged fighter and stays away until she starts attacking.
I think it’s really amazing that Even as Larxene, Elrina’s devotion to helping Lauriam in his search for his sister, a sign of true friendship, shines through not only magical amnesia, but literally dying and having your soul and body be forcefully separated. I hope we get to see Elrina and Lauriam at some point, they deserve their happy ending.
In their past lives, Marluxia and Larxene's human bodies were related to one another (From Kingdom Hearts Union Key). Ironic that their weapons, a scythe and kunai, are related by being reused farming tools.
Actually Lauriam and Elrina were just friends. Lauriam’s only relative that we know of is Strelitzia. Lauriam and Elrina possess such a powerful friendship that even with amnesia and having their souls ripped from their bodies, they still stick together.
I was watching a lot of KH BBS and KH3 and something got me thinking… What’s up with VANITAS? His sword stance is similar to Rikus high ward, but his left arm is lower tot he ground. While Riku uses pin point slashes and tippers mainly. Vanitas, similar to Sora uses broad swings and hard strokes. He runs like Terra, keeping his keyblade Void Gear at his side, perpendicular to whoever he’s aiming at. His keyblade is… short and clunky yet looks like it could literally smash someone skull in. And the fact it has a Gazing Eye in its design. Can you please do a form breakdown or personality analysis of said character?
To be fair- Vanitas as a character is unique in the fact that- We don’t know that much about him. Like at all. We know that he’s apparently supposed to be the darkness and negativity inside of Ventus’ heart stripped away and given physical form. But we also know that he took on Sora’s appearance after some soul shenanigans. He’s tied to Ventus’ but Ven was revealed to be from before the current universe of KH even existed, having been possessed by one of the Original Darknesses so that it could infiltrate the Dandelions. And by the end of it all, Ventus was sent forward into the future still possessed. So Vanitas could very well be one of the Original Darknesses, or he could just be Ventus’ darkness without the OG Darkness included. We don’t know. It’s literally not possible to figure out what Vanitas is until we see more of him. Luckily, considering he’s a part of Ven, he can’t really die as long as Ven is alive. So he’ll be plot relevant again soon.
