How do you do the muted notes so well when its only on 3 strings? I always find myself hitting the ones below.

u use the bottom of the fingers flat out ur hand instead of curving ur fingers

Don’t worry about hitting the ones below, you can hit 4 strings! Now with the other strings, lightly touch the bottom strings to mute

Use your index finger and lay it so that it rests on those strings. You can press the low E string with the tip, then mute those strings with the thicker part of your index finger
