Got my Manta a week ago in Germany and I gotta say it’s been fantastic so far. Coming from a reMarkable 2 this device seems so much less “limiting” and so much more versatile. Thanks for your take on it, looking forward to more content from you about the A5 X2! Oh btw.: Audio track for the parts with you in front of the cam is only left-side mono. Not a biggie, just a little irritating wearing headphones.
That's wild about the audio, I will have to check into that. I recorded it like all my other videos, although I did use the clip on mic for this one when I normally don't.
The new Lany pen is amazing and quietly, they did engrave by pen. They don’t offer it but I asked and at first they said no but then they honored my request and done both my pens. I love the feel of the half folio. One thing I would like to see more Jeff, is talk about the material that the exposed portion of the back is made of, it kinda of was mentioned by Voja but I think that is a concern for half folio users. The good part it does fold all the way around when in use but again how is it protected otherwise.
With that packet of screws there is plastic piece which is used when you do not want the pen loop attached to the device. That will act as a dust protector, as I heard.
Thanks for the video. This is earlier than I expected. I wonder if I'll also get a tote bag. As early as now, I'm already thinking of getting a sleeve for the Manta because of the half folio.
I'd still prefer a full folio, but the more I think about it, the less concerned I am. I think the back will be subject to some slight wear, but mainly it's going to get a bit dirty over time. Those feet should really make a difference.
Strange. It's definitely from my video. It seems like it recorded on one channel for the session I did in the AM, but both channels for the session I did in the PM - the microphone set-up was the same for both sessions. I'll look into it. Thanks for calling that out.
@@jeffreymoss Hey Jeff, depending on the camera you might need to change the track to Mono in your video editing software. Its only coming through the left channel
@@VladimirKostek I suspect this is just a quirk of the production. I had issues where I can to run it again, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's the source of the issue. All the clips in this video have stereo recordings, using the same camera and microphone, but the issue is just in the first few bits, so there's no reason for the issue except for some sort of glitch.
Great video as always my friend. I enjoyed hearing more about how you actually use the device and set the toolbar up. Two quick things I noticed, you listed the Nomad as having a Mobius screen and I am pretty sure it is glass, which accounts for some of the differences in feel. Also, I understand the sentiment of buying a device for what it is and not for what it promises, I whole-heartedly agree in most cases. I do think there is a difference with hardware versus software. Supernote is already in process of making parts available. Again, that is a personal take and I completely get it, just wanted to share they are working on making it available. Also, thank you for the shout out on the cover removal. I think Voja has me beat, but to be fair he is almost magical in how easy he makes it look. 😂
I only ordered the Manta because of the highly regarded writing experience on a Mobius screen rather than a glass screen. I also got it because of the no replace nibs and ability to replace the battery and motherboard. Hopefully, in a few years, I can just buy a new motherboard for way cheaper than buying an entire new device.
Looking forward to the next parts of your series. I have one and am very pleased with it overall although I do still wonder if the greater functionality of the Boox 10.3 might have been the way to go. One thing the reviewers seem to miss as a major benefit is the PEN. The heart of metal pen is beautiful and puts competitors to shame (from what I can see).
I agree, regarding the pen. I think the HoM brings a sense of style that's otherwise missing, and it's got a nice weight distribution. It feels like a premium stylus. The Go 10.3 can do more, I think that's safe to say, but in my experience Supernote handles notetaking better. It's a more refined experience. I have a number of Boox devices, and I started using the Note Air at work about four years ago. But since moving to the Supernote, I haven't looked back in terms of my daily driver. Earlier in the year I brought a Boox in to work to see if things had changed, and as it turned out I couldn't wait to get back to the Supernote. That's not a knock on Boox as much as it's a complement to Supernote. Both companies make great devices, but I just find the Supernote working better with notetaking flow and file management. Boox probably holds an edge in terms of the functionality of it's reader app. So if you were loading documents like PDFs, etc. on to the device, that might be a different story.
I bought the HOM but wondering about the other Lamy pens. I hope you can make a review about Supernote pens and other accessories like the refill. It was recommended to me during checkout; I disregard it. But if it’s a Lamy Safari pen for paper I would have bought it as well to save for shipping, tax, duty, and foreign currency conversion fee.
I really like the Viwoods AIPaper, but at work I use the Supernote (A5X currently) and I wouldn't replace that with the Viwoods. I mainly use the Viwoods at home for to-do lists, creative thinking etc. I use the Supernote for work notetaking. The main reason between these two use cases is the reference features of the Supernote (e.g. star-marking system, handwriting search, keywords, etc) that Viwoods simply does not have (can only tag pages). There are other differences, but I think that's the main differentiator for me.
Your reviews are usually more fair than this. You seem to be doing nothing but complain and pick at silly bits. I think your personal disgruntlement with Ratta and the delays is coming through.

I noticed the same issue.
Wo hast du das gekauft?
@MyKillyy Ganz normal über den EU-Store. Hab da direkt beim ersten Batch eine Bestellung durchbekommen.
Hallo.
Kann man das auch zum Lesen wie ein e-book verwenden und dabei Spaß haben? Ich lese relativ viel (PDF hauptsächlich).
Danke!
Very much appreciate you content. You helped me make a decision and I bought both the Manta and Nomad. Thank you.

Something wrong with the audio. It is only playing out of my left ear cup. Only video I am having this problem with.

Thanks for calling out the Nomad screen. Not sure how that error slipped through the editing process.
@jeffreymoss I know how hard you work on these videos and figured you'd want to know. I can't wait to hear the rest of your thoughts.

I thought Nomad was not Mobius
Correct. That was an error on my table.
In your opinion, how does it compare to Viwoods AIpaper?

So is this better than the Boox Go 10.3?
I think so, but it really depends on a given use case. For notetaking, certainly. But the Boox does have more utility with apps and the native reader.
And is way cheaper @@jeffreymoss

I'm surprised to hear that. I actually feel quite favorable about the device this far.
