- Hair coloring for real human hair wigs or hair pieces. NOT for synthetic wigs.
Try to pick a hair dye that matches your bio hair.
Make sure hair is already bleached slightly lighter than the color you want. (See previous video)
Step 1 - You will need Bowl, Gloves, Color Developer, Color Dye, Shampoo, Conditioner, Measuring Cup, Spoon or Color Bush
Step 2: Read instructions & put on gloves
Step 3: Mix Color Dye & Developer
Step 4: Apply to Hair
Step 5: Cover with plastic wrap or foil
Step 6: Check periodically, usually done in 30 min
Step 7: Rinse with warm water, shampoo & condition
Thank you so much for this video!
I have a vintage style (non-scalp) human hair wiglet that was like a medium auburn color to start out. I ended up dying it with a 3n demi-permanent color. The same one I use on my own hair. It definitely came out dark brown. But something I didn't think about, I wash my hair, so the color faded slightly, and my wiglet looks darker. So I need to wash my wiglet to fade the color some and not leave the color on so long on my next wiglet.
Just something I thought I'd share here.
Thank you again for this video.
Hugs 💞
Thanks for sharing this tip!
Looks great. We can even make or ad on a separate removable fringe/bang ..clip on for a different look too.
Very cool
Hi, just came across your video. What's the name of your topper and where'd you get it please? Thank you!
Great job, I learn a lot, You made it very simply and I appreciate that. Great tutorial
Glad it was helpful!.
Thank you for this! I do hope my box dye works!
I hope so too! Good luck!
So my question is... If I dye my wig dark brown will the lace be dyed as well? I noticed you did not part your wig so I was unable to see the lace.
Yes, the lace will be dyed brown also. Sometimes if you are really careful and avoid dying the roots of the hair you can avoid it.
Nice & easy tutorial to follow. Thank you so much because I am in a bind.
Glad it was useful. It isn't as hard color hair as you might imagine.
I have a human wig with human-scalp which look same as yours wig, so wonder could it be easier to wash off the dye color stained on wig scalp? I saw others used vaseline cream as a protectant to wig lace and scalp, is that necessary for wig dying process?
Any wig lace will be dyed, so be cautious. Usually vaseline is used to protect your ears and forehead skin when dying your own bio-hair. While you can use it on wigs and the hairline, it can spread easily to the strands of hair so dye won't touch the hair either..
I’m still scared to do it. My wig was expensive human hair and no one will touch it.
Have you used natural pure henna powder to color a human hair wig?... I ordered a wig that I am going to try this with as I can not find a single wig in the color of henna red.
I haven't tried henna. Let me know how it turns out. Yes, there are lots of red colors in wigs but finding the perfect one can be hard.
Does it get on the lace front
Is it bad if you get it on the inside of the cap
The inside of the cap is ok. However, if you have a lace front wig and are dying a darker shade than your skin tone try to avoid the edge of the lace front.
I love the tutorial! I have a darker human hair wig but I want to go about 3 shades lighter. I took a picture and the hair was way too dark for my taste (I got a good deal on the price). Do I dye in 3 different stages or just 1? Thanks for YOUR input!
Usually going lighter is a 2 step process. Part 1 is bleaching it lighter and Part 2 is Dyeing or Coloring it to the correct shade. See my other video on bleaching. ua-cam.com/video/2uXGNZOLmcw/v-deo.html
After you dye a wig will it become like fried at the end or not as soft as it was before because I’m gonna dye this human hair wig and I don’t wanna mess up anything because you know these aren’t that cheap 😂
Yes, it can make the hair frizzy and less soft. Bleach it for the shortest amount possible while still getting the lightens you want anduse a good conditioner. Remember wet hair appears darker than dry hair so stop the bleach when it is a bit darker yellow or reddish than you think you need. Redness can be toned down with a blue toner.
I have a black wig and I want to dye the tips purple. Should I bleach them and then dye them purple?
Yes, if it is a human hair wig for the color to show you will need to bleach the tips. See my other video on that and modify to be just the tips.
Thank you for this!!❤
You're so welcome!
Can you dye a black human hair wig brown?
Sort of. You bleach a black human hair wig as brown is lighter. It may come out reddish and uneven so bleach and then over dye to the correct shade of brown.
Hi, how about the lace? Would it color it too? Does it need some heat?
I haven't tried dying the lace but I will look into it.
@@wig-guru7328 I actually dyed the wig and it also dyed the lace even after using got2b gel on it. Whoever is doing it make sure to find a way so you don’t stain the lace also.
Can I lighten a darker hair piece with temporary dye kit?
No not really. Temporary dye will add a tone but usually only a darker tone. You would have to bleach hair first, then use a temporary dye kit or normal dye kit.
Hi! Is that a monofilament top or silk top? Is it ok to dye a silk top with the bowl method?
This I think was a monofilament. Your silk top and lace front can get dyed or bleached depending on what color you are using, so be careful.
How do you keep it off the lace
You just try your best, it isn't easy. You use a little hair dye brush and try to "paint" it on just the hair fibers and not on the lace.
Thanks for this! I was considering ordering a remy hair silk part topper, but hesitated because I have red hair, and they do not ever seem to come in red shades. My thought was to order a blonde one and dye it copper. Did you have any issues with the silk (not lace, but actual silk) dabric staining? I'm told silk is very absorbent.
Yes, the silk lace part will be dyed as well. You might actually want to buy a darker hair color and then bleach it. This will make a reddish brown if you don't leave it on too long. See my other video on bleaching my topper.
I did dye my unit all over it and what I got was an unreal scalp, I would recommend not to dye the lace to avoid ruinning the natural looking scalp.
You are absolutely right. The dye will get onto the lace with this method. Since mine was brown dye, it came out fine for me. To avoid getting it on the lace: make a thicker batch of dye, keep the piece upright by attaching to a piece of plastic covered cardboard, gently part hair in 1 inch section and apply with a dabbing motion with a dye brush. Sometimes this will end up with a "rooted" effect as the hairs might not get dyed all the way to the base.
hey! that sounds great, I will certainly do that with mine, can you imagine, the one I have is from Freedom Couture, it cost 950 dlls, I wouldn´t want to regret doing the same thing I did with my other unit with this one, no way, I will certainly follow your tip, you should video it, you will certainly have thousands of visits, just saying, you know you may get some cash hahahahhaah.....thank you so much dear♥
Apply thick layer of vaselline all over the parting silk and lace area...
Does it work with food coloring?
Food coloring does have a temporary effect on human hair wigs. It will last for 2 or 3 shampoos and as long as the starting hair color is lighter then the food coloring will show up. But since it comes in tiny portions...I'd recommend a Punky Colors instead if you are going for rainbow colors. Punky colors will wash out gradually after 12 or so shampoos.
Can I use hair dye like L'Oreal from the drug store?
Yes and no. I have tried it. You can use a box dye from the drug store but..... It basically comes with a tiny bottle of developer bleach and a color already for you. But if the human hair piece you buy is black or very dark brown the box dye will have little to no effect and you will need to bleach it first (see my previous video on this step). On your box dye look at the color results chart. On very dark hair, it should show that it is basically just a tone effect that will come thru if anything at all..
I wouldn't recommend it, it will dye the wig but it will leave a weird smell to it that is hard to get out and it will have the wig feeling a little bit fried. Not sure how or why
Not to mention, L’Oréal has literally melted human hair together INCLUDING my own when I had natural hair, so I wouldn’t recommend box dyes at all.
@@wig-guru7328 developer is not bleach. Developer is an activator used with bleach or dye to lighten hair or ass color. Bleach is only used to lighten hair. And the way you dyed the wig gave me horrible aniexty i know its a wig but girl sectioning is key unless your water dying wigs.
Does the brand used matter ? For the dye
Most hair dye from any beauty supply store works. Or even a box dye from say Walgreens. Just look for permanent and not the kind that washes out.
Did it stain the silk scalp?
Yes, the hair dye does darken the lace. For me it still works as I use loose face powder in the part line to make it match my skin tone. If you are super careful and are okay with a "rooted" hair color you can apply the dye just to the hair and stay away from the lace by like a quarter of an inch.
Thanks, so you don't feel the silk scalp was light enough for you ? I would love to see a close up shot of the silk part before and with the makeup.
To avoid staining silk cap put wig on a mannequin and part in sections take your time
40% vol is used to lift to a lighter shade
Thanks, I know but 40% was all I had left from the earlier bleaching of this human hair piece. See my other video for that part. 20% vol developer will certainly work if you are dying to a similar or darker shade.
wig-guru it’s ok I also heard you can dilute the peroxide with a specific kind of water
I’m trying to dye hair wig black to light brown what do I need?
I dont know why people refuse to call hair colors by what they are, they are color, not dyes, unless you are using henna. Colors actually change the molecules in the hair, dyes just coat it. Notice how you said, color 3n? That is correct, its not dye 3n. You can also use 10 volume.. with any color to just tone. Which i would do in this case, as using 20 now will just bleach it out even more as it deposits the color in the hair shaft. omg you said dye again! oh thats not the developer, its the color ...
I just want to color my human hair topper in a little bit darker shade of brown do you think I can use 10 vol with wella koleston permanent color which I use for myself . Just want to adjust the tone.
Probably yes. Going from black to a dark brown should be easy.
