I left AK to care for my mother until she passed. Then her older sister became ill so I cared for her until she passed. It was a privilege to care for both of them. After that my older son married and had 2 daughters, so I became a Granny. I have loved every minute but granddaughters are in College and it's time for me to return to the place I love and miss so much, Alaska. I'm 70 now and kids are having a fit that I would even think of leaving. But I'm still coming home.

Just found you and got caught up with all your videos. Really enjoyed your journey. I am also a woman who likes being along with my dog. I have a big garden, order seeds, tools are a shovel and rake. I am making plans to have a few chickens. A lot of people don't like to be alone, but I treasure it. I have only my phone and tablet, and sometimes that is a little much. I will enjoy watching your future videos. I will soon be 82. I lived in Montana for a while, but now am in a Florida.

I like to be alone, too, since being with someone else has always meant being abused. Faced with those two choices, alone is peaceful, no fighting, no gaslighting, and my energy is for me not some emotional vampire.

Thanks for the ride, Alone. Out of the 4 highways in Alaska, the Richardson and Glenn are my favorites, you can't beat the beauty of these two. I had to smile when you showed Paxson, many years ago when I took off for the Summer from caretaking, I wanted to make some extra money and I took a job at the Paxson Lodge washing dishes and what a time I had there, tthe owners and their family members were crazy and did not run that place like they should and that is why they closed down. Not sure if anyone has reopened it to this day. I will say one thing, I would trade my property here in Willow and my remote property in a heartbeat for a place on the Richardson for sure. Thanks for taking us along.

I'm sure one of your awesome Fireside Chats will go into some detail about your time at the Paxson Lodge! I mean you can't just leave it at that!! All along the Richardson is a gorgeous country! I totally understand your feelings to want to live anywhere there! Thank you so much John!

I have been enjoying all your videos. At 77 yrs, I am too old to live remotely, but I do like to see how you are living. I used to camp a lot, backpacked some, and once canoed with a group down an Arkansas river for 6 days. I miss being in nature so I can do some of that vicariously thru your videos. Right now I am traveling (vicariously) with you in one of your videos. Beautiful scenery. Thank you.

Pretty drive - I kept waiting on a travelogue, but only the annoying music. I skipped forward a LOT because I didn't want to miss what you had to say, but hated the music that much. Made a Brazilian beef stew this weekend, which my sons thought was amazing (beef, onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, cumin and bay leaf) I cooked it in the crock pot while I did other things on Saturday, and I'll probably eat it all week. I threw in about a cup of rice at the last two hour mark, and it's both flavorful and filling. My sons enjoyed trying it today, along with eating an entire batch of pork pasta alfredo. I think they like mom's cooking! Waiting anxiously for another renovation update video.

But seriously, it was the best of best of times and the worst of times of my life. The best place for an 18 year old east coast kid to come of age. I had the space, the time, the toys, and just enough money to to grow up, play hard, get slapped down by consequences hard, and to begin to become a man. I had no family to drag down with my immaturity and I lived through the alcoholic fueled, age induced, peacetime AF stupidity endemic of lower enlisted and I survived to tell about. Scarred, broke, and wiser but a survivor. To any DirtBoyz who ever pulled a shift on the runway in a plow pack, snow blower, or as supervisor on a mids shift on your 1000th mile of plow passes on one othe longest runways in the world and witnessed the Aurora Borealis light up the night so bright you could almost read by, then you know what I'm talking about.

Back then, we were an emergency alternate landing strip for the space shuttle and the second back up strip, after Elmendorf for AF1 and AF2 in the northeastern Pacific. Maybe someday an old fat grouchy retired Sgt might relate a story of a quiet Sunday morning one winter when Elmendorf's airfield went down while VP Gore was flying across the Pacific and a certain Senior Airman was the airfield supervisor for snow removal. As the story was, err, TOLD to this reporter, it was a stressful morning. Yep, that runway has some stories to tell. There was an A-10 that lost ordnance on take-off. A tanker that landed with its boom extended and trailing a fire. Navy fighters who decided to do carrier take-offs when the runway was still asphalt. Cold War alerts for Bear bomber interdiction. Birds that went up but never came home. So many stories.....

I sure hope I didn't talk your leg off while I was in the front seat with you on this drive. I remember so many places on this road. We fished in Summit Lake several times and got some nice rainbow trout. Once while fishing there I thought I had tied my stringer tight on my chair leg but evidently I did not. All at once there goes my stringer with several fish on it swimming away from me. I didn't care that I was going to get wet so I jumped up and waded into the lake screaming to my husband to help me. He just sat in his chair a little ways from me and laughed. I did retrieve the stringer but was wet all the way up to my knees. I wish I could say I didn't do that again but oh yes when fishing at Lake #2 on the road to Chitina I did the same thing but this time they didn't get very far.

@@AloneinRemoteAlaska your welcome and I did enjoy the video none the less.. at this point in my life I just laugh at stuff like I told you happened.
It looks like that construction is to make a four lane divided highway in that spot.
I wouldn,t mine land along that highway but it would have to be someplace with trees and on good ground..not soggy ground or bald rock.i like being on a state highway it works well to sell the stuff I make.i do it here..drive by selling is great.i have my woodworking sold to one end of ny state to the other.
I hope the cabin redo is coming along good and the end is insight soon.

When was your drive to fairbanks?? I was surprised to see so much snow on the ground so now i,am wondering when you filmed it.
Any word from dewey or the food delivery guy??... Hehe!!
