You are familiar with the canal down by Morris, Illinois in the states. I fish at night for Flathead catfish. One night, two punks drove by, turned around and parked near where I was fishing. They got out and started some small talk, I heard one of them say to his friend, you wanna do him. I reached in my waist band, pulled out my Glock 33, racked it and said, go ahead, make my night. They stood there for a few seconds, got back in their car and left. I am a concealed carry permit holder. I did call 911, the sheriff came out, got a description of their car and put out a BOLO on the car. Moral of the story, always have something with you just in case. Be careful out there.

I am glad you are okay. Yes I knew Morris quit well when I lived nearby. The US laws are very different to the UK laws on guns. If I as much as shown a gun to anyone and they called the police I would get arrested. There is no carrying of any description permitted over here.

Hi Barry, and welcome aboard. Buying a boat is a very personable thing. When you start looking at boats for sale, you will know which one ticks your boxes. I would say, make sure you get a survey, and haggle it is like buying a used car, you do not want to offer the asking price. When you get your boat make sure you take all the time you need to feel confident in cruising. If you think a journey will take 4 hours it will probably take 6-8 hours. Never rush anything especially around locks, take your time and how ever long it takes, it takes. BTW I am now in the middle of Birmingham.

I did ask him to wait until I got ashore so we can have a little chat about it but that's when he walked away and said he was going to shoot me and burn my boat with his friends..
A little while later while later while going up the next lock what seemed like half of the Manchester Police force turned up looking for a guy in a boat who threatened somebody unbelievable.... he actually called the police on me I'm said I threatened him so I promptly told the police what happened and as far as I know they went to look for him....

I did call the police, who were not interested, as they had not physically touched me. They did offer me an incident number, but I told them I was on move, but just wanted to report it in case they tried to twist it. The couple on the other bank walking their dog sad that they were known by the police. I am glad you are okay as well.

I did, but they were not very interested, all they did was to offer me an incident number.

The tools in hand of cause was not planned, it was just as it happened. I am sure you are probably correct, that he was showing off.

@@TrevsTravelsByNarrowboat good. I reported intimidation by a neighbour during lockdown. The police told the 'lady' to behave, nothing more has happened. Happy travels!
