    mad respect for u Paul for the money u make on detailing. people will always have negative things to say because they don't make that. I have a mobile detailing business myself so I know how much work it takes. I never hate on where someone is from or there appearance. its the job that a person does when he or she is done. its all about customer satisfaction. keep pushing to be the best u can be.

    You're right. Another TV station talked him into an interview and he showed them the inside of his bucket. It has a $25 microfiltration panel that traps dirt in the bottom. He basically is using filtered water. Makes sense as you don't want water spots to show up when your customers are paying $5,000!

    I read a post on a forum by an Astra VXR owner who'd used this guy when he first picked the car up. I can totally understand supercar owners seeing a good car clean as a sensible way to spend £5k - they'll need to protect their investment and that amount of money is probably pocket change to them anyway. But spending a quarter of a car's total cost on one clean is a tad obsessive I think.
    Very interesting vid. It's nice to see this guy in a vid instead of just stil photos.

    Paul is a craftsman and a perfectionist. Since this video he has modified may of the techniques and equipment he uses in the persuit of an even better result. Paul is great because he's got a passion for cars and a passion for detailing. His detailing van probably has about a 1/4 inch of carnauba on it, and is stocked with every tool he could possibly need. If Paul's not the best then who is?

    He's right about bird droppings, most people don't realize how acidic they are. After one day leaving a bird turd on your car and it has etched into the paint. Same goes for biomass of any kind, give it enough time to decompose and its acidic quickly. The guy must have kevlar skin to be able to do all that and not have his skin dry out, i'm amazed.

      Look at the way he dries the car. Towel flying around everywhere, picking up dirt etc etc.
      Then the wax applying by hand... This has been a short lived hype that makes your craft look more exclusive.. But since your hands are an abrasive too it is everything but recommendable.

  • @wrongthinkthunk
    @wrongthinkthunk 12 років тому

    Yes I seen hundreds of products that makes similar claims. The trick is not to fall for "Numbers" and go with basic understanding that high content carnauba is 15%-20%. Yes they use pure carnauba in the mix so they can actually say "100%" it just means it is not mixed with beeswax or other waxes and is chemically softened with spirits or solvents. Pure Carnauba is solid like concrete and needs to be refined in to powder or softened to be used for various applications polishing or edible.

    Thats true 1988... I use a microfiber towel to wash my car. I throw it away after 1 use. Never use a sponge more than a couple times. It will always collect dirt after a while.

  • @calgarydetail
    @calgarydetail 17 років тому

    As for the waxing by hand. It is somthing that a few detailers do. it is not the norm, however it is still used. The reason it is used is becasue of the high carnuba ini the wax (it is between 60-70%, this makes the was very hard and it easier to apply by hand). Also there are solvents in the wax, with an applicator solvents are added and there it not an eaven wax coat. There are a few waxes that use this such as Victoria wax and Zymol

  • @MrX8503

    To remove swirls safely you need to use an abrasive. If they're light swirls use something like Swirl X, if they're heavier use Meguiar's M8332, which is a medium cut. I would stay away from heavy cut compounds if you're afraid of going through clear coat.

  • @spyderf16

    @mail22 Bird droppings are acidic. They will etch into the paint very quickly (especially if the car is in the sun) if not immediately removed.

  • @GrandPrixGTP02
    @GrandPrixGTP02 15 років тому

    actually no, reason being, if you were to wash the car from the bottom to the top, you would be wiping all the dirt and grime from the bottom of your car onto the upper parts. That can not only make your car dirtier than before (meaning more work for you), but if you keep scrubbing with all that dirt and what not on your mit, you are gonna scratch the hang outta your paint.

  • @calgarydetail

    some waxes can only be applied by hand becuase wen u use a wax pad or a buffer the compouds dont go well with a terry cloth or a microfiber cloth pad and it doesnt apply correctly so when you use ur hands it activates the enzymes better and bonds with your paint better and correctly

    spraying degreaser is actually a must... not spraying degreaser will actually take all the loose tar and debris and start to scratch the paint. although it does sound like much to spend to detail these cars it is worth every penny. one problem that @ viralwire pointed out was he was washing in the sun! charging that much he should have had a washing bay. but to make up for that, the extensive job he did buffing, polishing, massaging makes up for it. too expensive for me but others go for it!

    Well just like the name suggests it uses two buckets, one filled with shampoo and water and the other one is just plain water and a grit guard. You dunk the wash mitt into the the shampoo and wash the car but before going back for more soapy water you rinse the mitt off in the second bucket with just water to rinse off all the dirt on the mitt so that it does not contaminate the soap. You end up with one dirty bucket and a clean one at the end of the wash and hopefully no scratches on the car.

    @Pontiac2001GT ...I know one thing, I would not let any old teenager wash my high end automobile. Let him clean his Dad's car...dropping the cloth on the ground, using dish detergent for soap, drying the car with some old rag or maybe his torn long johns, scratching the paint and making the swirls worse, etc. If cleaning a car is so easy, then why do so many of them have horrible swirls? It only takes one bad wash to screw the paint job on even a brand new car. Yeah right, let him clean yours.

    I never washed my Subaru WRX nor my Toyota MR2 Roadster and when I sold them, the paint finish was fantastic after a detailing. I'm not going to wash my new STi either. It looks better covered in mud as God and Subaru intended! I cry if the dealer ever details it during a 6-monthly service. Leave the paint alone! Anyway, I'm sure the mud, grime and dirt protects the finish!

    You seem to be pretty knowledgeable. I've used meguiars 3 step system (polisher/paint conditioner/wax)
    Now I have a black car and the swirls/spider webs drive me insane. I've heard that all I need to do is get a machine polisher thing + some polish gunk and then I go at it.
    But like the video said, does this not essentially "buff out" my clear coat layer? I'm guessing if I screw up, I'm going to burn my clear coat or make things worse? Recommendations on removing out light swirls safely?

    @gunslingerroy ok maybe wicked's approach is a bit harsh, but I am qualified to defend his argument in part. Although deionized water may deter water spots from forming, washing in the sun also presents other hazards, such as sudden temperature changes (even with 35C water) Evaporation is hastened, hence soapy areas tend to dry too fast and could prevent a thorough rinse (esp black) Why not just wash in a shady area? I have owned and operated a body repair shop. Guitar finishing is my specialty!

    I dont know, i feel you on the price vs car. But do either of us own a car worth a £5000 car wash. If we did we would wash it correctly. Because although those cars are toys, they are also investments because they do not depreciate and detailing it like so and keeping it in premium condition keeps the resale value in tact. Me personally im fine with the leather chamis no fany micro fiber blankets. But too each his or her own.
