- The latest edition to our Overlanding set up is a 2021 Rockwood Geo Pro 19BH. This rugged little off-road Geo Pro camper is exactly what we needed to extend our travels and push the limits of our exploration. We never considered ourselves to be an RV or camper type of family and to be honest, and I still don't think we fit into that mold exactly. But having this off-grid Rockwood Geo Pro will allow us to have more freedom when we travel and not be confined to the Jeep Gladiator or rooftop tent. Pairing the 2021 Geo Pro 19BH with the already overland-focused Jeep Gladiator makes for a perfect combination of rugged, capable and, comfortable. Whether you're a weekend Overlanding family or considering going full-time living out of your Geo pro camper, we think this setup will work for anyone. In this video, we discuss why we chose to go with a camper from Geo Pro over the teardrop trailer we've been talking about; we also go over the specs and the interior. Torsion Axles and 190w solar panel, but great video! We use our 21 E Pro 19fbs for boon docking, and have been pleasantly surprised on the roads I have taken it down. They really are great trailers for the money! Great setup!
7500 if equipped with the max tow package that’s the sport and sport s. Rubicons max at 7000, overland and Mojave max out at 6000 not calling anyone out just informing and adding to the knowledge and input so people know.. awesome vid, looking into the 20bhs myself

I do the same as you. I the same jeep and a 21' Foristriver mine light it 5000lb my jeep pulls vary good. Live in the hill country of Texas . It slows down some but it does ok.

I've looked at the Geo Pro units. They have an axle with a "torsion" style suspensio, also called a Torsion Axle. (no leaf springs)

I have a Dodge Ram 2500 loaded with tent and supplies which opens lots of options. Like the rest of the world and their grandma, I'm contemplating an RV...either trailer or class B Van. I rented a class B van for our PNW adventure and that thing was great. Large king bed, wet bath( I think I would have liked a cassette toilet over dump stations) , nuke, stove top, fridge, ac, heat, sink and generator that ran on the gas tank. It was a micro house meeting all our needs while parking anywhere we liked. It fit in any parking spot. A big downside for a towable is exactly what you said you want to do. Drive to a location, unhitch it and have it as a home base. This restricts you from performing a seamless travel loop...hours wasted backtracking, picking up the trailer and dropping it off at the next home base.
You're exactly right. I love the vans because of that very reason, you always have what you need and don't have to spend time going backward.
Great video! Exactly the info I was looking for. So can the rubicon stock suspension handle the smartcap and RTT without the trailer or do you recommend to upgrade the springs. I don't plan to tow but am thinking of having a similar bed setup with smartcap and RTT.
It can definitely handle the extra weight, but you will have some suspension sag and that really drives me crazy so I had to go the extra mile to fix it. When your suspension sags a lot you start getting uneven wear on the tires and your suspension takes a beating always being compressed under a heavier load. I would definitely take a look at a heavier duty spring or at least a spring spacer to even that out.

A sway control hitch?? That adds to your tongue weight, I wouldn't use 1 like that, if I used 1 it would be the Andersen hitch, lighter and easier to use
Would love to know more about the towing and type of hitch you use. There are so many hitches out there its not easy to sort through which work better over others as everyone has an opinion or negative comment. But hopefully soon ill be out there towing with a Jeep wrangler and seriously considering the geo pro. Thanks for the video and your time!
Most weight distribution hitches will work just fine, I wouldn't go too far down the rabbit hole on those. Whoever you get the GEOpro from will definitely sell them and I would never notice a difference between one or the other. I would be careful with which GEOpro you get since you will be towing with a wrangler. The towing capacity is 3,500lbs I believe and I would stay as far south of that as you can. The motors in Jeeps are not great for towing in my opinion and you will have your foot on the floor if you take it up any pass over a mountain. Thanks for the comment !

i made a nice camper toy hauler out of a 7x16 vnose and pull it with my gladiator.
What do you think about towing this with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk? Your very candid commentary made me nervous. Would you tow this across country and through the mountains in Utah, Colorado, etc.?
What's the towing capacity of the trailhawk?
Has the JT been re-geared to compensate for the 37's?
Did you re-flash the ECU so it knows it has 37's instead of 33's?
I had to do both on my JLUR to run 37's and I don't tow or haul much.
I think throwing the stock rims and tires on and re-testing the towing might raise your opinion of the JT.

I have a JL 4Turbo and want a GeoPro 16BH as it is smaller, I’ve only towed jet skis using my uncles Tacoma, and towed a Uhaul Trailer with a rented 2500HD. Wonder if the JL is good enough for the 16BH? I would appreciate some feedback. I saw the JL was pulling the 19BHS on another video but to me, that seemed a little ambitious and risky.
I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I just don't think the jeep is a good towing vehicle in any configuration. People would say I'm an idiot for saying that, but I've towed tons of trailers with a lot of different vehicles and the jeep just isn't built for that kind of work. People do it all the time and claim it's great, but based on my experience it's a terrible time and would avoid it at all costs. Definitely get other peoples input and go grab a trailer of similar weight and length to see just how it performs before taking the plunge.

What do you guys use for internet for work while out overlanding ?
We don’t really use anything. We just make sure we have internet and cell service on the days e need to be available. We will be getting starlink when it becomes available.
I tow a 25lre micro boost xlr with my gladiator
the gladiator with the diesel motor towing capacity is 7500, the gas motor gladiator is rated at most 4500 pounds. i would never tow 4500 with mine way to dangerous.
Most gladiators don’t have 37 inch tires or lift kits that would change a lot

Total weight capacity of that Gladiator is 1200 lbs. You have 500 on the hitch, another 400 in RTT and Bed Camper + 500 with you the wife kid and gear. You're at 1400 lbs. more or less. Plus you're towing near max capacity while overloaded. Why not remove the Roof Top Tent and Bed Camper and go with a tonneu cover instead you'll reduce your weight by ~300 lbs. Pack a ground tent if you want but I would for sure look into reducing your overall weight and if that weight comes off the top of the the vehicle, even better.
I agree. Instead of reducing the weight we chose to go with the Ram Power Wagon with increased payload as well as towing capacity. Even with the topper and tent removed, the gladiator is underpowered. I loved that truck for all that it could do, but for someone who tows regularly this truck will leave you wanting more. Looking to purchase a Geo/E-Pro, our research found this is not a off paved road, dedicated dirt trail overland travel trailer and the following issues.
Don’t be fooled by off-road tires and a lift kit. This travel trailer is very capable for its intended purposes. Know it’s limitations.
Reported Issues To Check:
💦Plumbing Leaks:
“Flexible white hoses” leaking at all connection points; “improper fittings & clamps”.
⚡️Electric Issues:
Check Stereo wiring, reports wired incorrectly with mono sound inside to accommodate the cheap single mono external speaker. Easy fix by removing radio unit, wire correctly for internal stereo sound and disconnect wire to worthless external speaker. Low cost bluetooth external speakers readily available to run off smart phones, etc.
🔩🪛Bolts & Screws:
Reports of Bolts holding body to frame coming loose. Check with dealer/manufacturer to maintain proper torque settings, etc.
Screws coming loose and falling out in upgraded stove/oven and microwave at all connection points. Use appropriate Loctite for metal to metal and metal to wood screws and throughout interior. 110v plugs screwed into wood receptacle boxes pulling out.
🚪Wood Drawers & Cabinets:
Kitchen drawers falling apart, reinforce with wood glue and brackets. Consider a local cabinet shop to build tongue and groove heavy duty drawers and replace all together.
Cabinets Opening During Travel: Replace latches or install child proof safety latches which are low cost, easy to install and work well.
⚙️Axel & Bearings
The wheel bearings are not sealed and not meant to be submerged in water, sand, mud, dirt etc. The “EZ lube system” apparently should never be used due to a “design flaw” as it can actually blow out the rear seal and does a poor job of evenly greasing the bearings. Also, it takes dirty contaminated grease and pushes it across the entire spindle to exit the front housing which can actually contaminate the entire system crossing premature wear on associated parts. In addition, any grease that bypasses the back seal will get into the breaking system and destroys it.
Always have a qualified dealer remove and repack bearings or do it yourself with available easy to follow instructions on doing it properly. Personally I’d rather repack my own bearings as 1) I know it’s actually done and 2) it’s done correctly. If one does encounter extremely dusty dirty or submerged in water conditions, repack the bearings as soon as possible to avoid permanent costly damage.
Underbelly:
The underbelly is not enclosed and water tight. Always inspect the synthetic underbelly liner that protects the wood floor making sure there are no abrasion, tears or rips in it. Tiny abrasion holes etc. will allow moisture to penetrate the wood and rot the floor. Note: nearly all enclosed underbelly travel trailers are not watertight to the point of being submerged in water. Typical enclosed underbelly‘s are meant to insulate and protect the tanks from common road debris and with heat pads or hot air, from freezing during Winter camping.
Only specialized off-road camping trailers have watertight metallic underbellies to protect them from scrapes and abrasion from over-landing and unmaintained 4X4 trails.

Tow rating is only part of the equation. Payload is critical as well. What is the payload of your Gladiator?
Payload is 1200 from the factory and we have roughly 750 in gear on the high side.

Why not tow it with your truck then? The gladiator is more capable than your truck off-road but once you put that camper on your off-road capability goes out the window so you might as well use the appropriate truck
Because our adventures are suited for our bigger truck and if we want to hit hard trails or really go off into the nothingness then I would like to have a vehicle capable of getting me out and back with no issues. It's a constant give and take of what's best for the trips we go on.
