The chalice at 21:29 represents our TAIKAZAN. It is a cauldron, weighing 2 tons, which used to be in the city of Turkestan and was used for religious purposes. During the Soviet era, the cauldron was taken away and it was in a Russian museum for half a century. Closer to our independence, we got Taikazan back and we were greatly rejoiced. Now it is a symbol of joy and happy future for Kazakhstan
A cauldron? What are cauldrons a symbol of joy and a happy future for Kazakhstan? Just curious, when I think of a 'cauldron' I think of the 3 witches from Macbeth who are associated with a cauldron and the famous line, "Double, double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble":
@JK_Clark because you look at it from perspective of your own culture. It is not the cauldron per se, but because it holds cultural significance for Kazakh people.

Another awesome informative video. Thank you Tommy. Kazakhstan clearly has a bright future. One correction, it is 9th largest country in the world not 7th. In the order of size: Russia, Canada, China, Usa, Brazil, Australia, India, Argentina then Kazakhstan.
USA is little bigger than China in actual size, China's paper size claimed all dispute land with India and all other neighbors even the island - Taiwan.
Kazakhstan looks awesome and so many friendly people out and about. I'll have to keep this place in mind for when I have free time to travel. Glad to still see the vids coming even if it's technically before the whole incident.

15:06 - A female warrior, also a woman-ruler of a tribe - yes, we had such ladies. Not a lot of course, but it happened in older times (at least in my tribe for sure, I’m from Naimans). There’s a wonderful monument to one of such ladies created by Russian artist (Buryat by nationality - Dashi Namdakov) in Astana. Name of the statue is “Zher Ana” which means “Mother Land”. It’s really beautiful, my fav in this country. It’s dedicated to Tomyris, queen of Massagets.
Wonderful! It's so nice to get a notification that a video is waiting when I wake up. It was difficult worrying while you were M.I.A., Tommy. Thanks for being so generous and loading up a video before the year is out. Happy Holidays, and as the Germans say, "guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!"

As a Kazakh i wish to visit in the Macedonia! My wife and i live in the Albania and saw Orhead lake (Sorry if i wrong wrote)! This is so amazing place! And my wife and i wish to see Orhead lake other side from the Macedonia!
I’ve heard of Kazakhstan from bicycle racing as that is where Alexander Vinokourov from the Astana team is from. I have since learned more because of the Russian conflict with Ukraine.
RIGHTFULLY ARRESTED. He broke many laws deliberately. Why he did it is unclear. 1. He did not carry a passport. 2. Entered a prohibited area without a permit. 3. Lied to the police even he could read all the Chinese and Russian warning signs allover the place.
@@dirkhuman760 what did he break ? all he didn't have was a permit to visit a town on the border... by russian law he had to pay just a fine of 500 rubbles... nothing more... as for passport, he had it in the HOTEL and he had it on the phone... you don't need to carry always the passport with you, you can have a copy or photos on the phone so you won't lose it... nothing in the russian constitution states to carry your passport, just the identification which he had on his phone... the 3rd one is bs... he never lied to the police, even in the video he stated that he knew both russian and chinese and they even bought a chinese translator... actually in the video it never stated that he lied, neither by police... Go away with your BS krmelin bot, no person who watched Tommy videos would believe you.
21:49 THAT'S COMPLETELY UNTRUE! It honestly offends me as a Kazakh person and all of Kazakh people that foreigners assume that! We were the first and only back at the time country in Soviet Union and Russian Empire that was constantly doing revolutions. We were oppressed such a countless times, that even though we sent a letter to Russia to become independent as soon as they themselves left the Union we were always denied, because there were many problems with borderline contributions - they wanted to shatter us all across other republics and completely take our North and proclaim it as a part of Russia. Our fight for our rights continued till 1991 when we finally got approved (as the most drenched colonia of USSR)
I’m sure he meant what read as an insult to you , you’ve obviously never watched this Channel or you’d understand that he never purposely talks bad about the places he visits so if he was misinformed or read the wrong history forgive him …. And Get over yourself
That hat is actually really nice lol, I'd totally rock it too! Also man, Kazakhstan and it's people seem so friendly and nice, I'd love to visit some day!
21:47 You are mistaken here, the Kazakh people never wanted to remain in the same union with the Russians, perhaps the authorities of Kazakhstan wanted this but not the Kazakhs, there was even a rally against us having a Russian president(1986)and of course that's not all, in our history there were many uprisings against Russification
Wrong. The older generation thought differently. They did not want the collapse of the union, no one did. But the new generation is completely different people, they are free people. They began to return to their roots.
@isn81 and where are you from? as a Kazakh from Kazakhstan I know what I'm talking about, just from the video people might think that the Kazakhs didn't want independence at all and that they have a very good attitude towards the things that the Russians did to us
Spent some time in Turkmenistan a few years ago and my close Turkmen friends loved Borat to the point where they would quote the whole movie and sing the goofy songs Borat would sing about Kazakhstan. All the Stan countries love talking shit about one another in a joking way too, it’s hilarious. Best people I’ve ever met were Central Asian, amazing and welcoming people who love to drink and have a great sense of humor. First thing many would ask me about as an American were “why are transgender taking over America?” Haha
@ hope you enjoy your time there as much as I did. Ashgabat is quite the interesting place. I miss the nightly light shows, friendly locals, and incredible kebabs.
First time watching your video - you got it Tommy, looking through the lense of history and also understanding some of the modern intricacies of political landscape and our first president’s legacy... and how it all formed the current culture of the country! And applaud you for that - like and sub!
23:00 - Those guys in the taxi were Russians, not Kazakhs. In Kazakhstan, Russians are still Russians even though they live in Kazakhstan. “Kazakh” refers to the specific Turkic-Asian group. The term “Kazakhstani” means “everyone that lives in Kazakhstan and has citizenship therein”. So, those Russians in the taxi could be considered Kazakhstani, but not ethnic Kazakh.
@@Pertinaxman it's not nationalism btw. I live in Kazakhstan since i was born and it's absolutely normal to make a difference between russians, kazakhs and kazakhstanis here. I've never heard about russian being called kazakh here being russian myself.
@@Pertinaxman A Negro is a Negro. A Chinese is a Chinese. An Eskimo is an Eskimo. Black is black. Green is green. Calling green yellow is nationalism. It is important for Kazakhs themselves to distinguish between native Kazakhs and Russians. Are they Nazis? But typical Egyptians don't look like that. But Egyptians 2,000 years ago didn't look like that either. Now Egypt is inhabited by descendants of the Ottomans, Arabs. So what would you call a black person you meet in Egypt?

Kazakhs don't like the Soviet past because at that time there was a lot of genocide in ethnocide and that's why when a foreigner alludes to the Russian language or talks about the former USSR, Kazakhs don't like it very much because many Kazakhs died from the politics of the USSR
No, she actually said the floor number in Kazak - “on segiz”, and when he said «odin vosem’», she replied that this phrase works better in Russia, but “here is Kazakhstan”, thus explaining/emphasizing that she said the number in Kazakh.
Super interesting vlog. Glad you still had that one in storage. Kazakhstan is a country that is intriguing to say the least. Glad you got the chance to visit. I would love to go on the trip you went one day, hopefully soon. Ты невероятный чел)
Love that swagger from those guys at 31:10. I know Kazakhstan is pretty far from being the pinnacle of a democratic society, however you can immediately see how much more relaxed everything is compared to the atmosphere in Russia.
Enjoyed this video very much. Would you ever do a live stream. I am curious how you managed to learn to many languages. Good luck with your adventures and as always thank you for sharing!
Thx for your educative & wonderful video of a beautiful land & its people for us that cannot visit it ourselves. We hope that through your video's the world's people will become wiser & not prejudicial with all the propoganda its being fed. Thx again Tommy, fine holiday season to you & take good care of yourself.
at 3:05, there was a profound decal on the back of the blue car, that reads: "In this world you'll find anything twice, except for Father and Mother." This kind of reverence for elders, and especially one's parents is very indicative to the Central Asian cultures. As well as their hospitality... I hope they retain those qualities forever, as the world itself becomes smaller and starts looking like everything else, losing uniqueness and traditional values that make them different.

Thanks!
You related ? If not worry about you're own family and not someone who couldn't give a rats a** about you
@@Against-Modern-ErrorsWhat an incredibly random, un-asked-for, miserable thing to say😆
Excited to watch, thanks for posting and Merry Christmas to you & your family Tommy!

Merry Christmas Tommy, family and friends. We really appreciate what you do just to get a glimpse into a foreign land and learn a little history too. Thank you.
As a Macedonian 🇲🇰 - Kazakhstan is a great place!!! Can’t recommend it enough! 🇲🇰❤️🇰🇿
As a Kazakh i wish to visit in the Macedonia! My wife and i live in the Albania and saw Orhead lake (Sorry if i wrong wrote)! This is so amazing place! And my wife and i wish to see Orhead lake other side from the Macedonia!
Seeing this makes me love Kazakhstan and want to go there
They are a beautiful and very hospitable people

You're welcome buddy
they love Borats
Love the vlogs. I'm glad that you're safe and not letting a bad experience deter you from doing what you love.
Absolutely nice content about my country! Love you Almaty ❤
I’ve heard of Kazakhstan from bicycle racing as that is where Alexander Vinokourov from the Astana team is from. I have since learned more because of the Russian conflict with Ukraine.
The film scenes for Borat in his native country were filmed in Romania.
Loved the video. Just an average guy with a good attitude traveling to all corners of the World.
another banger! glad to see videos of you not being wrongfully arrested !
He is amerikan spy thats why he got arrested. Its been since 2015 3 letters agency people are on social medias 😂
RIGHTFULLY ARRESTED. He broke many laws deliberately. Why he did it is unclear. 1. He did not carry a passport. 2. Entered a prohibited area without a permit. 3. Lied to the police even he could read all the Chinese and Russian warning signs allover the place.
The only wrongfully is that this lying animal was released so quickly and did not serve at least 2 years for his crimes...
@@dirkhuman760 ruissian bot
"Kazakhstan is a big country so it took us a long time to come here. Also because my driver had to stop a lot to chain smoke" 😂😂

"Astana is a stunna!!" 😂 Good one.

I wonder why nobody ever called the creators of Borat racist for their depiction.
What a Cohencidence.
Really??
What!
He was called out for it
Guys who are replying... check the spelling of that last word. You might get the joke.
Because he's jewish and proclaims himself as liberal. Isn't that obvious?
Spent some time in Turkmenistan a few years ago and my close Turkmen friends loved Borat to the point where they would quote the whole movie and sing the goofy songs Borat would sing about Kazakhstan. All the Stan countries love talking shit about one another in a joking way too, it’s hilarious. Best people I’ve ever met were Central Asian, amazing and welcoming people who love to drink and have a great sense of humor. First thing many would ask me about as an American were “why are transgender taking over America?” Haha
They sound cool ngl. Would like to visit sometime.
I ask myself the same thing everyday and I live here
@@TipToeVertigo Hi, I live in Turkmenistan now after over 7 years in Kaz!!!

It's because borat is way better applies to Turkmenistan realities. No surprise, they were glad it didn't ecploit their country.
First time watching your video - you got it Tommy, looking through the lense of history and also understanding some of the modern intricacies of political landscape and our first president’s legacy... and how it all formed the current culture of the country! And applaud you for that - like and sub!
Good timing Tommy, just got dinner, now I get to eat and watch this :P
Awesome country Kazakhstan! Would love to visit again, was there in 2012 but only in Almaty unfortunately.
Excited for this one!
K pop star?
Brother I look forward to every episode, thanks and be careful you are like a part of the family.
@@wackyruss do not spread nationalism please.
A riddle for a typical American: what would you call a black person you accidentally meet in Egypt? An African American? :) He has never been to America. An African? Well, Egypt is in Africa. But typical Egyptians don't look like that. But Egyptians 2,000 years ago didn't look like that either. Now Egypt is inhabited by descendants of the Ottomans, Arabs. So what would you call a black person you meet in Egypt?
@Pertinaxman how is that nationalism? Calm down.
Russians that fled the war probably

Randomly looking through my past comments trying to find the last youtube video I had seen which had subliminal messaging in it.
IDK why but randomly saw my comment on your Harpers Ferry video and decided to watch. I like you a lot more then Peter Santanello and unfollowed him for his disingenuous energy vampire feel. So I decided to watch a video of yours again.
IDk the chances you uploaded 30 seconds ago but I will enjoy this video.
Havent checked your channel in a while but im glad you aren't imprisoned based on the titles I saw LMFAO.

“Russia is that way…” 😂 that was savage by that lady 6:05
Kazakhs don't like the Soviet past because at that time there was a lot of genocide in ethnocide and that's why when a foreigner alludes to the Russian language or talks about the former USSR, Kazakhs don't like it very much because many Kazakhs died from the politics of the USSR

@theseangle it's important to understand how awful russia is.
No, she actually said the floor number in Kazak - “on segiz”, and when he said «odin vosem’», she replied that this phrase works better in Russia, but “here is Kazakhstan”, thus explaining/emphasizing that she said the number in Kazakh.
