  • Although a "short" video this time - this short review of the Eureka AD60 class loco shows mainly just the loco "as is" & running off a standard H&M clipper ( singlet ) DC controler , This model by Eureka Models is dual mode DC/DCC equipped , For the original full sized AD60 class loco - the"A" is for Articulated & the "D" is for 8 Driving Wheels that's on each end ( i.e. B=Bo or 4 Driving Wheels , C=Co or 6 Driving Wheels & D=Do or 8 Driving Wheels )
The "DC" that can be found on several of these mighty machines refers to the Dual Control & from what I recall being told the "AD" being for Articulated 8 Driving Wheeled unit" & the "DC" refering to the Dual control with "60" being the class of locomotive ; These mighty machines were made by Beyer Peacock in the UK & were the most recent loco delivered to the N.S.W. govt railways in their day with 42 of these entering service when new ; loco's 6029 , 6039 , 6040 & 6042 are the only 4 of these Garratts that have been preserved with 6029 & 6040 viewable at the N.S.W. R.T.M.'s museum in Thirlmere N.S.W. while 6039 & 6042 are owned by the Dorigo Railway society in Dorigo N.S.W. with 6042 being stored in Forbes until it can be moved to Dorigo some day.

That is a really impressive model. Love the carrier. I'll need to make a few of those for my bigger models.
Seeing the footage of 6042 rusting out in a field makes me really sad but at least it's one pre of these engines that's still around.
I'm an HOn3 guy here in the USA. Long ago Westside brass imported a fictitious HOn3 D&RGW K-27 2-8-2 derived Garratt. I always wanted to build one using a pair of D&RGW K-36 chassis, just need to find a pair of junker K 36 brass engines to start with. Easier said than done. These are really fun to watch with 16 drivers, outside frames, counterweights, and Walschaerts valve gear.
    Cool stuff!

Great video! Im a Garratt fan from the US. Intriguing locos to say the least. With this model, ive always wondered how the separate parts connect? Obviously there is some sort of wired drawbar connection? Would you be able to do a vid showcasing this? And would you say the DJH model has more detail? (Also quite sorry yours gotten stolen! Thats insane).

Hi Jerry , these loco cradles are available from DCC concepts which used to be here in Perth Western Australia but they're now in the U.K. , their website is www.dccconcepts.com/ should anyone want 1 of their loco cradles which used to cost about $100 ( incl box ) here but will cost differently in the U.K.

we've had two of these for about 10 years now and both of them perform great. Why be so negative? he's obviously excited about his new train and you've got to come put a negative on it. Jerk

Thanks guys , it's ok - although it's nowhere as good as my "old" DJH kit buit one was that I used to have until it was stolen back in 2012 - but it'll do for now , I can't complain too much as I ended up buying it for far less than a brand new one is ; you can see more of my collection in my "Kev's Workshop" website via this link here - members.westnet.com.au/~locoman/ if you're interested???
